Ava’s POV

How did she get that result? I asked myself before collapsing to the ground. The hall dissolved into chaos—screams, students running in every direction.

“Call the ambulance! Call the ambulance!” Mrs. Wilson shouted over her shoulder.

I lay on a bed in the school clinic. When I opened my eyes, Mrs. Forrest was sitting beside me.

“How are you feeling, Ava?” she asked, her voice low and calm.

I glanced at her, my heart sinking as the memory of the lab scene descended on me. Now the whole world knows about my pregnancy. What would become of me?

“Ava, how are you?” she asked again.

Tears slipped down my cheeks. She pressed a finger to her lips when I tried to speak, telling me to be quiet and rest.

I took her hands in mine. “Mrs. Forrest, I’m sorry for all the pain I’ve caused the school,” I whispered.

She held my hands firmly, insisting I save my strength and stop talking.

“I’ve spoken with the doctor. He said you’ll be discharged before 3 p.m. I’ll be waiting to have a word with you in my office.”

I nodded lightly. She rose from the chair, wiping her palms on her skirt as though she’d been sitting on a brick. She gave me one last look before leaving.

Tears blurred my vision.

Bryan came in with his head down, shoulders slumped. He sat in the chair Mrs. Forrest had just vacated. I wiped my face.

“Is it true?” he asked in a low, raspy voice. “Is it true you’re pregnant?”

I nodded, wiping the steady stream of tears that wouldn’t stop.

His eyes met mine. “How could you let that happen? You know the consequences, Ava. It’ll ruin your career.”

“Bryan, it wasn’t intentional. I—I just…” My voice trailed off as my emotions took over.

Bryan said nothing for a moment, pity creeping into his eyes. “Who’s responsible?”

“I don’t know,” I replied quietly.

His eyes widened. “What do you mean, Ava?”

My eyes filled again. “I—it was… Bryan—”

“I don’t get it…” He paused, clearly fighting disbelief. “Ava, if you can’t even name the father, then you should get rid of it. What if your aunt finds out? How… Like… oh, fuck!” he cursed, slamming his hand against the table beside him.

“Is everything alright?” a nurse asked as she stepped in.

“Miss Ava, are you okay?” she said, looking at me.

“Yeah,” I whispered.

“How do you feel?”

I nodded, wiping my face.

Bryan had already stepped out when the nurse arrived. “Miss Ava Williams, your baby is doing well. There’s nothing to worry about,” she said with a smile. “You’ll get some medication to keep you healthy and help you rest.” She handed me a small white nylon bag. Then she helped me up and told me to return to the clinic in three days for a check-up. I nodded and reached for the door.

Outside, Bryan was sitting in a corner. When he saw me, he stood. School was over for the day, so there was no need to return to class. We sat in the field—it was the coolest place to let the breeze blow away our worries.

“I thought I was going to have the most memorable sex of my life with the only man my heart beat for, but it didn’t turn out how I expected. Chris insisted on a threesome—said it was the only thing that would make him happy. I agreed, but I never thought it would result in me getting pregnant,” I confessed.

Bryan stared, shocked—not just at what I had allowed, but at my level of naivety.

“Please don’t blame me, Bryan,” I cried, shame burning through me.

“I’m not judging you, Ava. I’m not perfect either. I was just mad you got pregnant for God knows who!” He said, still struggling to believe what I was saying.

He was about to speak again when Dr. Dane’s call came in. I glanced at my phone. “Dr. Dane—the doctor from the hospital where I wanted to have my abortion,” I explained.

“Pick up and tell him you’ll come for the abortion today.”

“But I don’t even have the money,” I said, frustration twisting my face.

“How much will it cost?”

“I don’t know. Maybe I should call him and ask.”

“Yes, call him,” Bryan urged, his face set.

On the first ring, Dr. Dane answered.

“Hi, Ava. I’ve been calling to check on you.”

“I’m fine, Doc. I called to tell you I’ve made up my mind—I want the abortion today.”

He was silent for a moment.

“Are you there?” I pressed, determination in my voice.

“Yeah, sorry, the network cut out,” he said.

“How much will it cost?” I asked, cutting him off before he could continue.

“Ava, have you thought about this—”

“I’ve made up my mind, Doc,” I said sharply.

“If so, then no problem. Come to the hospital—I’m on seat,” he replied in a rough tone.

I ended the call. Bryan and I planned the next steps.

“I’ll have to go home and change, then catch up with you soon,” Bryan said as I lowered the phone from my ear.

At home, I flung my bag onto the bed in my room, rushed into the bathroom, and rushed back out. Without a shirt, I stood in front of the mirror, staring at my tummy. It wasn’t protruding yet—I didn’t look pregnant. Then the thoughts came, heavy and sudden, like the morning sun breaking through. I imagined myself with a big baby bump.

“I’m not ready to be a mother yet,” I whispered, shaking my head to clear the frightening images away. The door creaked open

Aunt Margaret stormed in, her face a mix of disbelief, annoyance, and frustration.

“So it’s true, Ava?” she asked, standing by the door.

My heart almost jumped out of my chest. I grabbed my shirt to cover my nakedness. My head spun—how could I have forgotten to lock the door? And why hadn’t Aunt Margaret bothered to knock?

“Ava!” she yelled, her eyes blazing with fury. “After everything I’ve done for you since your parents passed away, this is how you repay me, huh?” Her eyes glistened with tears.

“Aunt…”

“I might not have much, but I go out every day to work and make sure you’re fine. And this is it. I am disappointed, Ava,” she said, dropping to the ground and crying.

“I’m sorry, Aunt,” I whispered.

With my shirt still clinging to my bare skin, I walked closer to her, my legs weak and shaking.

Hot tears streamed down my face.

Would Aunt Margaret ever forgive me?

  • Fractured   THE PUBLIC DISGRACE

Bryan’s POVChris turned slowly, his eyes narrowing at Kia, who stood trembling behind him.For a moment, he just stared. Then, without warning, he closed the gap between them, his hand rising to her cheek—not with tenderness, but with a sudden, sharp shove.Kia hit the floor with a gasp, her books scattering across the hallway tiles. The crowd erupted in shocked murmurs, but Chris didn’t flinch. He turned his back on her like she was nothing, facing Tessa again, his voice breaking.“I love you, Tessa,” he said, chest heaving. “I only love you. No one else.”The corridor held its breath. Tessa stayed still, her lips slightly parted as though she was trying to absorb every bit of what he had said. Then—“A lie,” a voice rang out from behind the crowd.Heads turned.Ava.She stepped forward from seemingly nowhere, her phone raised high in one hand. Her expression was cold, her gaze fell on Chris like a predator that had cornered its prey.“Let’s all hear what you really are, Chris,” she

  • Fractured   CLAIMING HER BACK.

Bryan’s POV“Something tells me this is Liana at work,” she said, still staring at the message.I took the phone and stared too, as if I could find the answer to her worries just by looking at the screen. I dropped the phone on the bed when the incident that had just occurred flashed through my mind.“But Ava, what happened earlier today? Where did you go, and why were you bleeding?”Her face saddened immediately as she clenched her tummy. “I went to discuss the accommodation issue with Doctor Dane, and he blatantly refused to help me, saying it was risky on his end since he doesn’t know my parents or relatives—and that if anything happened to me in his house, it might lead to big problems he was trying to avoid for the sake of his career. When he said all this, my heart bled and my chest became heavy again. I googled some abortion pills and bought them at a pharmacy on my way home with a fake doctor’s prescription. I took them in a serene place and boarded a taxi home. I’m sorry, Bry

  • Fractured   SAVING A FRIEND

Bryan’s POVI couldn’t breathe as I sat frozen in the doctor’s office, the weight of the unknown crushing me. Then, after what felt like hours, the doctor finally spoke.“Your sister… she’s lost the baby,” he said carefully, pausing to let the words sink in.A heavy silence settled in the room. My heart sank for a moment, the grief for her loss hitting me like a punch. But then, the doctor continued, his tone softening. “However… She’s fine. Stable and responding to treatment,” he said with a level of certainty. “She should make a full recovery. In fact, she’ll be discharged this evening.”Relief washed over me like sunlight breaking through storm clouds. My sadness and pain rolled away as though a new page of life had been flipped over. I jumped to my feet, my knees trembling with the force of the emotion.“Can I see her?” I asked eagerly, my voice trembling with urgency. The doctor nodded. “Yes, she’s awake and alert now. But take it easy—don’t startle her.”I raced down the corrido

  • Fractured   AVA’S DEAD?

Ava’s POVI got up from my sleep and looked around to see if Bryan’s parents were back yet, but they weren’t. I walked into Bryan’s room, then into the bathroom, and took a shower. After drying off, I stared at my tummy in the mirror, my mind heavy as memories of Chris flashed through me: our relationship and that birthday surprise at the hotel that night. “This is the result of that night,” I murmured. I quickly shook it off and picked up my phone, dialing Dr. Dane’s number. The line clicked, and his calm voice answered. “Hello, Ava. This is Dr. Dane.”“Good morning, Doctor,” I said, trying to sound alright. “I… I wanted to discuss something with you. It’s really important to me,” I added, pausing for him to respond, but the line remained silent. I continued, “My aunt found out that I was pregnant and threw me out of the house. I’m homeless right now, and that’s why I’m calling you, Doc. I don’t know if you can help me.” I remembered how Dr. Dane used to say I could confide in him, t

  • Fractured   TESSA WALKER IS FINALLY MINE

Bryan’s POVFrom the mirror, I saw Ava sitting on the bed behind me while I got dressed, ready for my first date with Tessa Walker, a famous and well-known model in the modeling industry. A black jeep honked in front of my house.“That must be Tessa,” I said as we peeped through the window. Her car was fucking clean. “A car for the governor’s children,” I thought.“I’ll see you, Ava! I’ll see you when I return,” I screamed over my shoulder as I rushed toward the door, disorganized. She said something, but I didn’t hear it clearly.I hopped into the car. Ava was watching from the window; I knew she was crying, but that was something we’d deal with when I returned. I sat in the back seat with Tessa, and her driver moved the car.I suddenly started sweating. I removed my handkerchief from my trouser pocket and wiped the sweat off my face several times. Tessa’s beauty was like the glow of the sun, too perfect and spotless. I couldn’t believe I was sitting next to her and now officially he

  • Fractured   A NEW CONSPIRACY

Chris’s POVI knocked at the door before twisting the handle open. Ava sat on the chair facing Mrs. Forrest. She glanced at me, then returned her gaze to the ground. My eyes darted between the two of them; I already knew what this was about. She asked me to sit beside Ava, which I did.“Did you get Ava pregnant?” she asked bluntly. I looked briefly at Ava before answering. “No, I’ve never been involved with Ava,” I said plainly. She didn’t look up at me. Mrs. Forrest let out a sigh.“Chris has just confirmed what you said, so who is the father of your baby?” she asked, her voice soft and calm. She signaled me to excuse myself, but I stood outside the door, listening.“You can confide in me, Ava.”“I went out after school with some friends and got drugged. But I don’t want anyone to know about this,” she lied, still pleading that Mrs. Forrest keep her secret. Silence filled the room for a moment.“And you don’t want me to hand this matter over—”“No! No, I don’t want any of that,” Ava
