Chapter 2

Author: July
Blood seeped from my arm at once as the pup bit me. My back started to sweat.

I had no room to think about anything else. So, I grabbed and lifted him before pushing him away.

I did not use much force, but he was still a six-year-old pup. He fell to the floor, went blank for a moment, then burst into tears.

I was about to step forward and check on him when the door was pushed open.

Lawson and a she-wolf stood in the doorway.

I recognized her. She was Lawson's old flame, Judy.

When Judy saw the pup on the floor with blood all over his mouth. She rushed over, picked him up, and kept patting his back. "Where does it hurt?! Why are you bleeding?!"

Lawson's eyes darkened, and displeasure radiated from him as he also checked the pup's injury.

"What happened?" His tone was as gentle as ever.

The pup cried and said, "Dad, it was her! She bullied me and hit me!"

Judy glared at me with hatred and wiped the blood from the corner of the pup's mouth with her fingertips.

"I didn't," I said calmly.

But my heart would not stop trembling. Lawson had clearly texted that he was in a meeting. But now he had shown up with Judy instead.

Lawson looked at me with dark eyes. Then the pup's way of addressing him made his expression falter. Soon, he smelled blood and noticed the wound on my arm.

Just as he was about to speak, Judy lunged at me in a burst of fury. She slammed me to the floor, hatred in her eyes.

I was about to fight back, but Lawson pulled us apart.

Judy questioned him. "She hurt our pup!"

"I'll handle it. Take Samson out and entertain him first. I'll come find you soon." He patted Judy's shoulder to comfort her.

At that moment, I stood beside them like the home wrecker who had interfered with their family time instead.

"Then you have to expel this servant from the pack." Judy's emotions settled, and her tone turned flirtatious.

Lawson nodded without comment.

Watching them, I felt as if I had been struck dumb. It hurt more than the wound on my arm. It hurt so much I could barely breathe.

Samson made a face at me.

After they left, the bleeding on my arm had already stopped, but deep bite marks remained, and they throbbed with pain. My wolf was feeling the same as it suffered the same torment as I was.

"What is with that pup?" I finally asked, my voice turned into a sob.

Lawson glanced at me, calm as ever. "He's mine and Judy's pup."

My heart ached. I did not need to question him about the rest as I already had the answers.

He continued, "I didn't lie to you. I settled Judy and Samson in the mountains and never let them enter our pack. Judy is pitiful enough. She can't even have a proper status. But you can be the pack's Luna, and your pup can become the heir. Her pup will be an ordinary werewolf for life. You already have so much, so be grateful."

My wrist trembled, and my soul felt hollowed out. I raised my hand to slap him, but he caught my wrist in one grip.

There was no more patience in his eyes as he said, "Monica, don't cross the line. I haven't even questioned you about why you would hurt a pup!"

He shoved me away. I staggered and almost fell. I was also completely disappointed in the werewolf before me.

He and I had grown up together in the orphanage. When we left, we were both rogues, with no pack and no home. We were always driven away by other werewolves.

Later on, he found a pack to rely on because of his outstanding ability. He did missions by day and worked part-time jobs at night to pay for my academy courses. Because of him, I was able to enter the most powerful werewolf pack.

At that time, my wolf soul had not fully awakened. Everyone believed I might never become a truly powerful werewolf. I felt so bad for him and that I even wanted to give up my own training.

Lawson lost his temper with me for the first time. "Monica, I can give up anything! But you can't give up on yourself! I can't live without you!"

That night, we sat in a small house that belonged to ordinary werewolves, listening to the howls outside the window. We swore that we would never leave each other before the Moon Goddess.

After my wolf soul awakened, I supported him as he rose step by step. I willingly gave up my own growth to stay with Lawson while he became Alpha. I also began hiding my abilities, so he could become stronger.

But only ten years had passed, and he had already become an Alpha. And everything had changed.

I pushed myself against the desk. My wolf soul was convulsing from the pain, and I could barely stand.

Lawson glanced at the wound on my arm and said, "If you hadn't touched him, he wouldn't have bitten you. Samson has always had a good temper."

He went to get the herbs wanting to treat my wound. Then, he sighed. "Our bonding ceremony is next month. Don't show up with a mark like that."

I turned away and steadied my breathing. Then, I walked toward the door.

Lawson had not lied to me. Other than not giving Judy the status of Luna and pack resources, he had given her everything else.

Including his love.

So there was no point in holding the ceremony anymore.

I replied to the invitation emailed by another werewolf pack and agreed to take over as Beta of the powerful Southern Pack.

There was joy in Judy's eyes.I frowned. "Do you need something?""Can we speak privately?" She glanced at the headmaster and found it hard to continue. After she and I walked to a small path where the surroundings were quiet and empty. She suddenly bowed before me, tears welling up in her eyes. She cried, "I'm begging you. Let me have Lawson. Samson is getting older. He needs a father."I looked at her in confusion. "What does that have to do with me?""Lawson spends every day in misery now, and all he thinks about is you. He's at my house every day and no longer handles pack affairs. The whole pack has already fallen under his Beta's control. As long as you go and make things clear so he stops thinking about you, I'll have ways to help him pull himself together." The more Judy spoke, the harder she sobbed.I watched quietly, unmoved. "This has nothing to do with me. I've already made things very clear to him. Not to mention I don't want to see him. As for you and your pup… What

His voice turned hoarse, already carrying a plea in his tone. However, it would not shake my resolve.Lawson said, "Come back with me. I won't hold any of this against you. You'll still be Luna. Your status will be much higher than being his Beta.""How much power does your pack even have now?" I mocked him. "You should know that soon, this whole territory will belong to the Southern Pack and its Alpha."I was not trying to scare him. Lawson also knew the current state of his pack. Many warriors had been taken in by other packs because of the scandals and my departure. Besides, his Beta was also eyeing his position as Alpha. "Are you taking your revenge on me? This is the territory you once took with me. Is this how you treat it?""Because I was the one who took it, I'm taking it back." I chuckled and left.Lawson was completely enraged by my words, but when he opened his mouth, no accusation came from it. He was pleading as his voice shook. "Don't go."I did not look back, but I

Judy was scared. She knew Lawson could do it, so she covered Samson's mouth and did not have the courage to let him continue. She feared she might not even be able to keep the life she had now. After Judy left with the pup, the scandal spread through the pack. The Beta, who had never been very loyal to Lawson to begin with, started using it to win over other warriors.Lawson waited at the church for an entire day.I did not appear. That day was enough to break him down and make him fully realize I had truly left. When it came to finding me, he sent out even more werewolves, but he still had no news. The Alpha of the Southern Pack protected my information well.I had changed my name.In less than half a year, I helped the Alpha seize a huge stretch of territory. My position in the pack became even more stable. I had more than a thousand warriors under my command. My reputation gradually reached Lawson's ears. That was because the Alpha's next task for me was to occupy Lawson's t

After Lawson left Judy's home, he tried calling me several more times, but he could not get through. So, he tried texting me.[Call me back. We're going to have the ceremony soon. I'll take you to choose a dress.][Call me back first. I won't hold what happened to the estate against you.][If you don't want to apologize to Judy, I won't force you to.]He paused again and sent more messages.[This was partly Judy's fault too. She didn't think it through.][The bonding ceremony is coming soon. You had better think carefully.]I saw the messages and did not reply. Then, I calmly blocked his number.Lawson returned to the estate. It was difficult to restore it to what it had been. The walls had collapsed, the windows were damaged, and the werewolves in the pack were still doing their best to repair it.Several more days passed.Lawson still did not receive my reply. Not even a simple text.He could not sleep or eat well these days.He always thought of me when he had moments o

Lawson had called more than a hundred times, but he still could not get through. In anger, he smashed his phone to the ground. The estate before him had already been wrecked beyond recognition.Samson cuddled in Judy's arms and sobbed uncontrollably.Judy had been frightened too. She held Lawson's hand and asked, "What do we do now? Will she do something even more impulsive? Samson is still young and she scared him badly enough."Lawson suppressed his temper and wrapped an arm around her shoulders to comfort her. "I'll have a healer take a look at him. Monica is only throwing a tantrum. She won't do anything else. She'll come back on the day of the ceremony. When that happens, I'll make her apologize to you.""That's good," Judy said as she patted her chest and calmed down.Lawson drove Judy back to her residence in the mountains later. This was the small house he had built specially for her.Over the years, he had often said he was busy with pack business. In truth, he had spen

Judy looked at me smugly and gave me an intimidating look. "Even if you don't get treated, you still have to apologize."She grabbed me, but I pulled my hand back. I ignored her and kept walking."If you don't apologize today, I won't show you any mercy!"How can you be so vicious and attack a pup? I'm not competing with you for anything. But why do you have to strip us of a place to live?!"Judy sounded so righteous as she grabbed my wrist again.I had reached my limit and I could not bear it anymore."Let go of me!" I flung her off with force. However, I did not expect her to fall to the floor and her arms were cut by the shards.Seeing this, Lawson stepped forward and slapped me. "You're crossing a line! What exactly are you trying to do? How far are you going to push them?!"I froze as the pain stung across my cheek. This was the first time Lawson had hit me in all these years. He had hit me for Judy and for the pup he had hidden from me.My blood went cold as I gritted my
