Diana's POV

"Come on are you sure this is going to be okay?"

"Excuse you, Diana, but this gown-" Ciara made a clicking sound with her tongue while staring at me from head to toe. "Is an eyesore; everyone is going to love you, Diana."

"Everyone?" I scoffed "I doubt that Ciara, no one loves me, I doubt anyone would be there at the wedding"

I stood, gazing at my reflection in the mirror at the fashion house.

"Are you having second thoughts?" Raphael asked, almost whispering, his warm breath tickling my neck.

"When did you get here?" I asked, surprise evident in my tone.

"Not too long ago,"

"Shouldn't you be somewhere? At work? Anywhere that isn't here?"

"Come on Diana, can't I come take a sneak peek at my bride"

"Hey, slow down; we haven't even signed the papers yet."

Raphael opened his briefcase, brought out a set of paper, and flashed them before my eyes. "You can sign this when you are done with your fitting and, more importantly, when I have had a good look at you."

Raphael took three steps behind, "damn Diana, I never knew you were this beautiful"

My cheeks turned red immediately.

I turned back facing the wall, away from the mirror.

I couldn't afford to blush. But I already did.

Medicine after poison.

This was just à contract marriage; why would I blush at his compliments?

"Are you hiding your red cheeks from me?" Raphael chuckled

"My cheeks are not red" I shot at him

He laughed out loud.

That was when I knew that I had messed up.

The way I replied only made it more convincing that I was blushing.

'Damn you, Diana, Damn you'

"Come on you don't have to hide your cheeks from your husband." Ciara teased.

I shot her an icy glare.

"Please, could you say that a bit louder so she can hear, putting more emphasis on the husband?" Raphael chuckled

He seemed very happy about this contract marriage; if I didn't know him, I would have said he was in love with me.

But could he be?

No, he couldn't be in love with me; there's no way, he has known me for how long now? One week? Two weeks?

Was it love at first sight?

Who still believes In love at first sight?

All those questions kept running through my head.

"So what colour are you going to pick now?" Ciara asked.

"I Don't know, everything is just so beautiful ànd expensive "

"Expensive!" Raphael’s eyes widened "Have you forgotten whose son and grandson I am? Besides, I could buy the whole fashion house, and It still wouldn't feel like I spent money." Raphael bragged.

I smiled.

Ignoring him, I turned to Ciara, asking her if I should go with the dress I was wearing.

I had tried several others before Raphael came and they all looked very nice on me.

When we talked about picking a wedding dress, I wanted to go for something simple and stylish but Raphael insisted we go with something extravagant and stylish.

It was part of the process of taunting the Lorenzos. At first, I disagreed as I felt it might make them think I was agreeing to the marriage because of the money, but Raphael kept insisting we go for the extravagant and luxurious dress.

"I think this is better," Ciara said

"It matches your eyes", Raphael blurted out.

My cheeks almost became pink again, but I contained it.

He has to stop complimenting me like this or else I might just assume he's marrying me because he loves me.

I stood facing the mirror.

The dress was a dream spun from midnight and stardust. A profound sapphire blue, vibrant and radiant, as though it had been crafted from the true essence of the nocturnal sky.

I extended my hand, my fingers gliding over the detailed silver stitching that twisted around the corset bodice like fine tendrils, every curve shimmering beneath the gentle light of the chandelier.

Small crystals and pearls were strewn over the fabric, reflecting the light in a manner that made them appear as if fallen stars were lying upon the silk.

The sweetheart neckline elegantly highlighted the bodice, and the delicate off-the-shoulder sleeves were truly enchanting—gossamer tulle embellished with beadwork so exquisite it appeared as if frost had caressed the material.

It was majestic, sophisticated, and completely stunning.

My gaze drifted down, observing how the dress hugged the waist before flowing into a lavish ballgown skirt. Stacks of glimmering tulle and silk organza glided with a seemingly weightless elegance, each movement hinting at a delicate shine, akin to waves on a lake under the moonlight. The train flowed backwards in a grand cathedral-like length, adorned with silver filigree lace so detailed it resembled a relic of lost nobility.

However, the ultimate detail—the aspect that caused my breath to genuinely stop—was the delicate cape, secured at the shoulders with clasps adorned with crystals.

It cascaded like fluid illumination, trailing behind the gown as though crafted from fog and enchantment.

For a brief instant, I just remained there, captivated. It was more than merely a dress. It was a declaration. A notion of strength, grace, and sophistication encased in deep blue.

As I pictured myself in it, I was certain of one thing—anyone in this dress wouldn't merely enter a room. They would possess it.

I turned to look at them once more.

"Guys, are you sure this is okay?"

"Don't you like it?" Ciara asked, folding her arms.

"I love it; it's a well-detailed and neat dress that exudes elegance, wealth and power."

"That exactly is how I want my bride to look like," Raphael said with a big smile on his face.

"Okay, I will go with this then."

I signaled to the shopkeeper to come over.

"Please, could you wrap this for me? I will be going with this."

"I am so glad you made the right decision; this is our best wedding dress; we've had only one person in the whole wide world who has been able to afford it."

My jaw dropped down In amazement.

One person, is she kidding me?

Was this dress that expensive?

Before I could protest against it, Raphael gave his card to the shopkeeper to pay for the dress.

"You don't have to do this, Raphael; she said it's the most expensive; I can't begin to imagine the amount because I don't want to collapse."

Raphael chuckled

"I told you, I want my bride to exude elegance on our wedding day, and if this is going to make you look elegant, then the amount is nothing", he smiled.

I blushed.

"You did it again?" Ciara exclaimed pointing to my face.

"Why's your face so red?" Raphael asked, a wide grin appearing on his face.

I turned feeling embarrassed.

We headed back home, and I was silent all through the drive; Ciara was in the backseat; she tried several times to start a conversation, but I ignored her.

We alighted at Ciara's home.

Raphael waved me goodbye but I didn't look at him as I was still embarrassed by what happened earlier.

Marcel's POV I was seated by myself in the living room, my thoughts swirling with ideas of retribution. The invitation card scattered on the ground at my feet—a fitting symbol for my intentions regarding Raphael and Diana's relationship. I was left to my own affairs by everyone, including Serena, who appeared let down by my outburst toward my mother. I pictured a vivid image of broken chandeliers, The astonished expressions. The lovely disorder I would generate at their welcoming celebration. I took out my phone and called Marco, my brother.Marco was the last born of the lorenzos but he's quite hot blooded and he hated Raphael as much as I do. He doesn't like to stay in the family house because he didn't like the fact that gramps was always about business and living responsibly so he made dad and mom get him an apartment."Marco, I need your help," I said, skipping the formalities. "What do you want, bro?" he answered immediately. "Have you seen the venue where the introduction

Marcel's POV "Are you going to sit and watch your brother take everything you've worked so hard to earn?" Serena said, her voice sounding like a lioness roar.I ignored. Lost in my thoughts.I sat on the couch, frustrated and angry; my brother, sorry, that kind of a person isn't my brother. That monster wants to take away what is rightfully mine.He left us years ago, and now he was back, about to reap from where he didn't sow."Are you even listening to me, Marcel?" She yelled "I need to think, Serena, please give me a break," I yelled back at her.She took a few steps backwards. I knew instantly that she was annoyed, but I couldn't worry about that at that moment. Raphael was about to become the heir to the Lorenzos dynasty and it wasn't just that he was going to get married to my ex Diana. There was no way I was going to sit and watch that happen.Over my dead body."Marcel", Mom called me the name from downstairs.I was in my parent's mansion. At first, I didn't want to go.Why

Diana’s POV Moving closer to me, she asked, "Why didn't you tell me he was here?" her voice a whisper."I tried to but you weren't getting it."She turned and greeted him respectfully. "I am Ciara Bennett." "Well, I am Sebastian Hayes."Ciara's jaw dropped in amazement.Sebastian smiled."Tell me you are joking""No, I am not joking; I am Sebastian Hayes, son of the mayor of this great city.""Oh my gosh, I have heard so much about you." She lied Ciara had this funny attitude of pretending to have heard about someone she's just meeting for the first time, but it's nothing serious; it's just one of her old daddy jokes."Really?""Oh no, I am just playing with you" She laughed happily."Oh my, you almost got me, dear Ms Bennett.""It's Ciara, please." She corrected."Okay... noted Ciara." He smiled. She turned to face me."How's he doing? He is going to be fine soon.""We don't know yet; Shania went in with the doctor as he insisted he had to see a family member, and no one else was

Diana’s POV "I am sorry I am late, If I had been here earlier all this wouldn't have happened""It's fine, what matters is that you are here now.""I am surprised you've still got those moves," Shania said punching him lightly."Oh those moves, they come in handy when I need them."They kept on discussing forgetting that I was in their midst. I wasn't angry because I understood that it had probably been a while since they had seen each other. Plus, it also felt good to see Raphael smile genuinely.I was about to move away when I felt his hands on me, griping them tightly a little bit, then reducing their grip. I understood what it meant.I smiled. He needed me there with him. Shortly after a loud screeching sound came from the microphone on the podium.Mr Lorenzo Junior was on the podium and was going to address everyone."I am sorry for what you all had to experience here right now; please, it's with deep and great sadness that I bring to you the news that this introduction party h

  • From Ex to In-law   Chapter 26— The Mysterious Stranger

Diana’s POV What just happened? I felt Raphael heave a sigh of relief. It seemed like he knew what just happened. Slowly, he released his grip on me, pulled me away slightly, and then placed a kiss on my forehead. My heart raced. Why would he do such a thing to me? Without warning.I blushed. He turned to look in the direction where Marcel was standing, but he was no longer standing; instead, he was on the floor panting heavily.I saw a strange person standing beside him. I had never seen this person before; he didn't look like the Lorenzos either, but he had a charisma like theirs, and he wore a perfumed that I recognised. It was one of the unique scents that Lorenzo always produced. I remembered one of my discussions with Gramps years back, that was during my first year in my relationship with Marcel. Marcel had gone to attend to something, so I was left with Gramps in their home for a while. I would have gone home, but Marcel had insisted that I stay and get familiar with Gramp

  • From Ex to In-law   Chapter 25— Shattered chandeliers

Diana’s POV Behind him were Marco, Anna and a few other people I didn't recognise, they were probably friends of Marco or Marcel who also didn't want my engagement with Raphael. They didn't look like family members; you would know a Lorenzo when you saw one; they had a different charisma, and the way they carried themselves was different. Not like I am being biased, but the truth is they walk and talk like they own the world. Well, you wouldn't blame them. That's what comes with being the most prestigious family in New York City.Even Marcel had this trait, but he was more subtle than the others. The others were outright rude; I didn't notice this about Marcel when we were dating, maybe because I was blindly in love, so I was overlooking most of his excesses, but now that I was free from the shackles of a stupid love, I could see him for who he is.Looking at him standing over there with those people behind him, panting heavily. It made me wonder what I saw in him that even made me
