Diana’s POV

Jealous? I scoffed.

"Why would would be jealous? It's not like it's a real marriage?"

Ciara shot me an icy glare.

"What? I am just stating the facts here."

"Well, well, well, who do we have here? If it's not the gold digger and the impostor"

I turned to look at who was behind me, and it was none other than the loser daughter, who can't maintain her home, Anna.

I felt like giving her the beating of her life, but I couldn't dare do that, the Lorenzos would sue me for abuse.

"Don't tell me you came to your introduction looking like an office worker?" She laughed softly.

My eyes rolled and rested on Raphael.

He urged me to go change with a slight nudge of his head.

I took in a deep breath and gave Anna a deadly stare before leaving with Ciara to the women's bathroom to change.

"I wish I could just grab her by the hair and smash her face on the wall" I lamented.

"Come on baby, I know you want to, I also want to, but it's so sad we can't do anything against a rich kid."

"Not for long though," I said, smiling.

I imagined the things that I could do to her once I eventually got married to Raphael, and there were a whole lot of things I could do.

"Why are you smiling?" Ciara asked

"All this torment would soon be over; soon, I will be the one tormenting them." I chuckled.

Ciara heaved a deep sigh.

There was something wrong about the way she sighed, it wasn't a sigh of relief, it was a worried sigh.

She was helping me raise the zipper of my dress; the dress was a black dress with diamonds embedded in it.

"What's wrong Ciara?"

"Uhm, yeah, there's nothing, dear."

I turned to look at her, holding her arms, her face was down.

Using the back of my palm to raise her head, I could see the worry evident on her face.

"What's wrong Ciara? You can talk to me."

"I'm... I'm... I'm just worried about you."

"Ciara? You are worried about me? What's there to be worried about?"

"I know you are getting married to Raphael because you want to punish your ex, but would getting your revenge be that easy? This family..." she paused

"I know them very well, Ciara, I know who they are. Don't forget I dated their son for seven years, so I know them very well."

"Except for the fact that you didn't know that they could treat you like a nobody, an outcast. I am happy for you, Diana, sincerely, but I am also worried."

"Do not worry about me; I will be fine. Besides, the contract has been signed; there's no going back now. I need to see this through", I said softly.

"Promise me that when it's getting too hard to bear, you will walk away, Diana," Ciara stated her eyes full of sincerity and concern.

What she was asking from me, is very hard to do.

There was a part of the contract we signed that said that no matter what either of us goes through, no one is going to walk away until it's five solid years.

I was the one who made this rule, not Raphael; breaking the rule will also attract punishment, and one of the punishments is to pay a sum of one million dollars; if either of the parties can't pay it, then we would have to stay married for additional ten years.

I made this agreement with the mindset that I would never default, because I knew what I was getting into, and I knew what I wanted to get from it as well. I knew that if anyone was to break this rule it would be Raphael.

Ciara asking me to walk away when the going gets tough would be very hard to do.

"Don't worry, Ciara, I promise to walk away", I said smiling.

I could walk away but not until after five years.

"Now, would you help me dress up, or should I just miss the introduction?"

"There's no way you are missing this introduction, not on my watch" she chuckled.

She brought out the earrings from the Marchesa cloth bag; it was also matching diamond earrings and the heels were matching diamond heels.

I was forced to ask her the money worth of what I was wearing because after seeing the way I looked in the mirror, I knew that those diamonds on the clothes, my earrings and shoes ain't knock-off diamonds. They were real diamonds.

But Ciara refused to tell me the amount; she claimed that she didn't know how much everything cost, but I knew she was lying, she just didn't want to tell me.

I was sure that everything I wore wasn't going to be less than five hundred thousand dollars.

My jaw dropped down In amazement.

Stunned by the way I look.

"Look over here," Ciara said

She did a finishing touch on my make-up.

"We are good to go now; let's go show them the latest bride in New York City", she said, smiling.

I smiled at my reflection in the mirror. The dress was stunning, and it highlighted my figure so well.

As we stepped out of the bathroom about to step back into the main event room, I suddenly developed cold feet.

"What's wrong?"

"I am not sure if I want to do this Diana?"

"Can you terminate the contract?" She asked folding her arms.

I bowed my head feeling sorry for myself.

Honestly, I didn't know why I suddenly developed cold feet, but cold feet or not, I needed to be there; contracts had been signed, and invitations had been sent.

It was too late for me to call it off now. Besides, I don't even have a million dollars to pay, and I don't think I am ready to stay in the Lorenzos family for fifteen years.

"I can't withdraw now," I murmured, straightening my shoulders.

As we neared the door, Ciara held my hand tightly. "Don't forget your commitment."

I nodded, although the burden of my deception felt significant.

The doors opened wide. A crowd of faces gazed at me—some grinning, while others observed closely. Raphael stood in the middle, his expression unreadable.

I cautiously moved ahead, the diamond-encrusted heels tapping on the marble.

It was then that I spotted him—Marcel—by the Lorenzos, his arm wrapped protectively around my adopted parent's biological daughter.

A chill coursed through me as our gazes met.

Why does he have to be here?

Diana’s POV What just happened? I felt Raphael heave a sigh of relief. It seemed like he knew what just happened. Slowly, he released his grip on me, pulled me away slightly, and then placed a kiss on my forehead. My heart raced. Why would he do such a thing to me? Without warning.I blushed. He turned to look in the direction where Marcel was standing, but he was no longer standing; instead, he was on the floor panting heavily.I saw a strange person standing beside him. I had never seen this person before; he didn't look like the Lorenzos either, but he had a charisma like theirs, and he wore a perfumed that I recognised. It was one of the unique scents that Lorenzo always produced. I remembered one of my discussions with Gramps years back, that was during my first year in my relationship with Marcel. Marcel had gone to attend to something, so I was left with Gramps in their home for a while. I would have gone home, but Marcel had insisted that I stay and get familiar with Gramp

  • From Ex to In-law   Chapter 25— Shattered chandeliers

Diana’s POV Behind him were Marco, Anna and a few other people I didn't recognise, they were probably friends of Marco or Marcel who also didn't want my engagement with Raphael. They didn't look like family members; you would know a Lorenzo when you saw one; they had a different charisma, and the way they carried themselves was different. Not like I am being biased, but the truth is they walk and talk like they own the world. Well, you wouldn't blame them. That's what comes with being the most prestigious family in New York City.Even Marcel had this trait, but he was more subtle than the others. The others were outright rude; I didn't notice this about Marcel when we were dating, maybe because I was blindly in love, so I was overlooking most of his excesses, but now that I was free from the shackles of a stupid love, I could see him for who he is.Looking at him standing over there with those people behind him, panting heavily. It made me wonder what I saw in him that even made me

  • From Ex to In-law   Chapter 24— Bitter Introduction

Diana's POVI turned my face away from him and looked towards the direction of Raphael. He had a big, wide, happy smile on his face. Seeing him smile at me that way was making me feel strange. What's this feeling? As I went down the stairs, I saw him walk down to the base of the stairs with his right hand outstretched. "Please allow me." I stretched forward my left arm to him, he held it and helped me down the stairs."You look ravishing," he said, staring widely into my eyes. His eyeballs were big and intoxicating. I blushed."Thank you."Everyone's eyes were fixed on me; I wasn't sure if it was the dress, my face, my heels or the fact that I was going to get married to Raphael. But whichever the case is, I wasn't going to be bothered about it.Ciara followed quietly behind us. There was soft music playing in the background. People were drinking their wine and toasting to whatever it was they were discussing. My eyes rolled until they stopped on my adopted parents. My mother's eye

  • From Ex to In-law   Chapter 23— Sweet Deception

Raphael’s POV After the long moment of silence, I picked up my phone and was about to text Diana to let her know about the change of things, but I stopped halfway into the text. I wondered If she was going to like it. I didn't want to jeopardise this opportunity I had to marry the woman of my dreams.Gramps noticed that my behaviour was a little bit off. "Are you thinking about the past?" He asked "No, I am worried about Diana.""Diana? Why?" "I don't think she's gonna like the idea of inviting all this many people to the introduction.""Then don't tell her about it" "Gramps?" I protested."Come on son, do you want her or not?""I want her so much Gramps""Then do as I say.""But if I don't tell her she's going to come the way she's supposed to dress to an office-""That's not a big deal" he interrupted "That can be arranged, Raphael""But how Gramps?""It's simple, does she not have friends?""Gramps? What does her friend have to do with this?" "Are you going to listen to me or

  • From Ex to In-law   Chapter 22— Ghost of The Past

Raphael’s POVAfter discussing the introduction plans and the people Gramps wanted in attendance, I sighed inwardly. He insisted on inviting numerous prestigious figures from around the world. I had tried to dissuade him, but, as expected, he refused to budge. Eventually, I gave up trying to convince him. Maybe she would come to understand that this wasn’t just a contract to me—it was so much more.I loved her.But I knew I couldn’t start preaching about love. Not after what Marcel had done to her. Not after what my family had done to her. This contract marriage, with the promise of revenge, was the only way I could have her. I was lucky to have even seen her again after our brief encounter at the bar."Hey, son, are you alright?"Gramps’ voice pulled me from my thoughts. I looked up to see both him and Grandma Audrey watching me closely.I forced a smile. "Yes, I am.""I don’t think you are," Grandma said, her gaze unwavering. "You look like there’s a pile of thoughts running through

Raphael’s POV"Do you love her that much?""Is it obvious gramps?"A few days after Gramps birthday, I went to see him in his penthouse to give him the gift I got him for his birthday.I couldn't give it to him on that day due to everything that happened on that day. After giving him my gifts I sat down, going through some business files I had come with."The last time I saw you smile this way was when you were about five years old,""That long?" I said, surprise laced in my voice."Yes, that long, my child.""I guess I have just met the woman of my dreams then.""But you two just met?" Gramps said his voice laced with concern."Not really?""Look son, I am eager to see you get married, get my first great-grandchildren from you, I would be so happy if they were from you but" he paused "But what gramps?" "I don't want you making a mistake that you would regret for the rest of your life."I took in a deep breath, closed up the files I was looking at, and sat straight up, facing Gramps
