LOGINChapter 8
Reese’s POV
I wanted to kill someone, and Alpha Dominic seemed like a good place to start. I know my mate, and the only time that she has ever cried was when Eva was taken away from us. She hadn’t done it before then, or since, not until she watched Eva’s memories. I knew it was going to be bad the minute I saw the tears sliding down her face. I just hadn’t known just how bad it was actually going to be.
After Kiara left the tracer on the pack, she knew exactly where to go. She didn’t have to stop for directions. She sensed where he was, and conveniently for us, he happened to be in his office, alone. The smell of blood was in the air, and I looked down to see blood on the floor. Well, it looks like Alpha Dominic actually knew that someone needed to be punished for their actions. I just hope that when it's his turn, he will accept his punishment. I hoped that it was his son’s blood, and from the scent in the air, it was.
Dominic had been staring out the window of his office, deep in thought, when he realized that he wasn’t alone in the room. He couldn’t hide the panic that covered his face when he turned around and saw that it was us standing there. Kiara was an older version of Eva. I was glad to see that he didn’t try to lie his way out of it, or act as if he didn't know exactly who we were. Doing that would have insulted our intelligence.
The first thing he said to us was, “I’m sorry.”
“I can promise you that things are going to get much worse for you and your pack. But we need to talk first, and I need to know who you’ve been in contact with over the years. We need you to tell us the truth, Dominic, so don’t try to lie to us. You know who we are. I can assure you that you don't want to be on our bad side. Now, tell us who contacted you about Eva,” I ground out.
I already wanted to tear this pompous jerk apart, but I’m not going to do that, not yet. It’s best to let him stew and know that payback will be coming. He won’t be able to get a moment’s rest. The anticipation of our coming to deal with him and his pack will be so much worse for him than our just coming in today and wiping them all out. They deserved to worry about when the other shoe will drop.
Who the hell even bullies a baby? Better yet, who allows a baby to be bullied like that? Because that is what she was when she arrived here, an innocent baby. According to Eva’s memories, she had been shoved around even back then. That really showed how disgusting this pack truly was.
An innocent toddler, who was only a year and a half old, had been tormented for no reason. The entire pack needed to be dealt with; there was no sense in allowing them to continue to exist. The only pack member I planned to spare was Bertha Flowers.
She was the only person in this Goddess-forsaken pack who had fed and clothed her over the years. Because of that, and only that, she would be spared. Eva was still way too thin, but we would get her healthy again. It was clear that they had wanted to keep her so weak that she couldn’t fight back.
She didn’t even have a wolf or her powers at the time. She had no way to protect herself from them, and they still took advantage of it, of her, and none of them were going to be allowed to escape the payback they deserved. My anger increased again, and I closed my eyes as my Alpha aura spilled out and filled the room.
Alpha Dominic had been forced to the floor under all the pressure I was exerting. Kiara was stronger than him, and because my mate, it didn’t affect her the same way. I was trying to calm myself down before I ended up really hurting someone, and Goddess knows that was what I wanted to do. They all deserved it. I hadn't seen her memories, but I adored my daughter. We had never raised a hand to correct her. I hadn’t realized what I was doing to him, not until Kiara placed her hand on my arm.
That caused me to open my eyes, and I saw that Alpha’s Dominic’s nose was almost touching the floor. Having Kiara soothe me had helped me a great deal. I was able to calm down, which allowed him to stand back up. I was glad to see the fear on his face. He knew that this was going to get bad, without me having to tell him. I wasn't going to warn him now; I didn't have to. But things were actually going to be much worse than he had ever dreamed possible, for him and his pack.
I mindlinked Kiara and asked her to cast a spell to prevent any of the pack members from being able to leave the pack. I knew they would try to leave en masse once they realized that we would come for them because of their harsh treatment of Eva. I didn’t want anyone to try to escape their punishment. I would let Eva rescue Bertha, but everyone else would be fair game. Kiara nodded and closed her eyes to concentrate on casting the spell.
“It’s done,” she told me a minute later.
“Excellent, thank you love. Now, where was I? Oh, yes, we were going to discuss who you’ve been communicating with in my pack. Do you have a name for me?” I asked.
“No, they wanted to remain unknown, but I have their number right here,” Dominic replied, pulling up his contacts and sliding his phone across his desk for me to look at.
I didn’t recognize the number, but Earl or Freya could have a secondary phone. One that they’ve managed to keep hidden. That would be the smartest way to get away with it. We will have to do this another way then.
I linked Kiara again. I didn’t want him to hear what I’m about to say. I didn’t want him to try to warn them about what we were going to do.
[Can you spell his phone? That way, after he sends the message that I’m going to ask him to send, you will be able to find their phone. I’m pretty sure that it’s hidden. They wouldn’t want someone to accidentally find it.] I asked.
[Hand it to me, love. I’ll take care of it.] she replied.
“Dominic, tonight at six p.m. I will need you to send them a text. I want you to tell them that Eva escaped earlier today. You didn’t realize she was missing until now. Do not tell them that we came here today, or that we know that anyone else is involved. The perpetrators we found when she was kidnapped have all been killed. They might be too scared to reply, but that's fine. I just need you to send the text. The moment they see Eva standing there, they will know that we're going to be dealing with them,” I told him.
“I will be happy to do that for you. But I have to ask, what about the Stone Fall pack? I didn’t know who she was at first, not until after she arrived. At that point, I was too scared to return her to you. I was worried about what you would do to us if you discovered her here. So, to protect the pack. I told them that she was an Omega with no family. I didn’t want her to remember who she was and lead you straight to us. I was just trying to protect my pack, Alpha Branson. I’m sorry,” Dominic told us.
“We need to speak to your son now, Dominic,” I told him.
“You need to speak to Donovan? Why?” Dominic asked. Now he was pretending to be confused.
“He attempted to do something last night, and we need to have a chat with him about it,” Kiara replied. Downplaying just how angry she was with careful phrasing.
“I’ve punished him, Luna Branson. He’s already injured right now. I’m sure you scented blood when you entered my office. It's his, I dealt with him when I found out what Claudia had done to Eva,” Dominic replied.
“We will need to speak to her as well, Dominic. Please call them back,” I advised.
I already knew what Kiara was going to do. She may look calm on the surface, but she was absolutely seething inside. This will be the first strike that we will be making against the Shadow Fall pack, but it will come with a heavy consequence.
Dominic mindlinked them to come to the office. They arrived a few minutes later, grumbling all the way up the hallway. It was clear that Dominic had punished his son. Donovan was limping and holding his side. He seemed to be pissed at being called back to speak to his father, but froze in place the minute he saw Kiara.
“Don’t block the doorway, Donovan. The Alphs might think I ignored his order,” a whiny voice came from behind him.
He moved out of her way, but stayed near the door, allowing her to enter the room. She stopped walking the moment she saw my mate.
“Who are you?” Claudia asked.
It was obvious that she was scared, but she knew exactly who we were the minute she saw us. I could almost see the wheels turning in her head. She was trying to figure out an excuse to downplay what she had done to our daughter last night.
“Your worst nightmare, come to life,” I replied.
Chapter 24Elaine’s POV If I had known this was going to happen, I would never have come here. I would have let Earl and Freya deal with Eva on their own. I wouldn’t have been included in any of this. The disappointment that is radiating off of Abram is making my heart hurt. I can’t stand seeing him looking at me like that. “What’s so wrong with wanting my son to have his birthright? He deserved to be the Alpha here; he always has. Abram, you have always been too hard on him and way too easy on Reese. You’ve always been like that,” I argued. “Elaine, what you call easy on Reese was the fact that he didn’t fly off the handle every time he didn’t get his way. He didn’t act like a spoiled pup all the time. Reese always took training and the job seriously, unlike Earl. Reese knew what the job entailed, but he didn’t want to take the Alpha position from Earl. He felt terrible and told me he would help Earl until Earl could manage the pack on his own. I was the one who refused to a
Chapter 23Eva’s POV I felt the fear rolling off of them in waves. Shane was scared, too, but he pretended he wasn't listening. He was trying to continue his conversation with his friend. But there was no way that I was going to let any of them wiggle out of this. I knew that my parents were too upset to speak, so I was going to do it for them. “I don’t want my parents to have to say the words, so I’ll do it for them. Something very serious happened at the Stone Fall pack. Mom and Dad aren’t talking about the emotional or physical abuse that I suffered while I was there. Mom’s spell ended up working a little too well on me. She could have lifted the spell if she knew where I was being held. I guess I have you to thank for that, Elaine. I’m sorry. I just can’t force myself to call you my Grandmother. You’ve never loved me, not from the moment I was born. It’s clear that Shane is the only grandchild you love, and not me. But it's okay, I can live with that,” I stated, looking dire
Chapter 22Elaine’s POV This little bitch is much worse than Earl and Freya told me. I was shocked that Abam was already supporting her. He just met her. Why does he have such a good opinion of her in such a short amount of time? How the hell did that happen? “I wanted to ask you about that, Kiara. I heard that Eva suffered at the hands of the pack that held her hostage. Abram didn't tell me how you managed to find her?” I asked. “Let's head in to take our place for dinner. It’s already 6 pm, and the pack members are waiting for us. I’ll answer that question during dinner,” Kiara replied. I was angry that she would just say it. Why does this have to be a mystery? That was rude and disrespectful to me, but I didn't want to press the matter. I walked stiffly, following Earl and Freya into the dining room. Shane was already at the far end of the table with a friend of his. His parents sat next to him, and I sat down next to Earl. Abram took the seat next to mine, with Eva sea
Chapter 21Eva’s POV I was ready to meet my grandparents. I had all the information I needed about both of them. I was told that my grandfather was very excited to meet me. If my grandmother thought that I would just hide out in my room in fear of her, she had another thing coming. With each passing day, I got stronger in every single way. Meari was a physical presence, one that made my sight, hearing, and strength far better than they had ever been. Ashra was a spirit, no she was different than that. She was more of a guide to me. She didn’t speak to me as much as Meari did. But I knew that when she did speak, I needed to listen. She warned Meari and me when danger was present. She also could sense when someone was lying. Now that has been very helpful in navigating the pack. If I didn’t have her in my corner, I would have probably been killed by now. Not everything in this pack was as it seemed. There were some who believed that Earl should have been named Alpha. They were w
Chapter 20Elaine’s POV The closer we got to the Spirit Walkers pack, the more my excitement grew. I couldn’t wait to put our plan in motion tomorrow. But tonight, I was going to make sure that I humiliated Eva in front of the pack. She needs to learn who’s in charge here, and it certainly isn’t her. If she thinks that she can smart off to me like she did Earl and his family, she’s got another thing coming. I’ve been getting reports on Eva for years. She’s always been weak. She had no one to back her up, and she had to learn the hard way that she was entirely on her own. It makes sense that now she’s returned to her parents, she thinks that she can do what she wants. I’m here to shut that nonsense down. I know every injury that she’s ever sustained. I knew that she healed like a human. So, for Earl and Freya to insist that she’s got a wolf appear out of nowhere is unbelievable. I knew that Kiara had bound Eva’s power,s so no one could sense her. She didn’t want her to be take
Chapter 19Eva’s POV Uncle Earl had taken his family and gone to see my grandparents at their estate two days ago. My mother had filled me in on what had happened during my training that first day. I was furious. How could she love Shane more than she loved me? How dare she have me taken away to a pack that she knew was a bunch of miscreants? It was clear that she had never loved me. Finding out why hurt even more. She allowed her bias against my mother being a witch to be her reasoning behind it. My father had no issue at all with my mother. He loved her and took every opportunity to show her how much he still loved her. I had to force myself not to think about what my grandmother Elaine had done. When I dwelt on it, it took my attention off my training. But at least I had three nights of peaceful dinners, until they returned, with my grandparents in tow. If they thought having her here to back them up would protect them from my comments, they were wrong. I was going to make
