The next day came and I delayed returning to the pack house till noon. On my way, I heard people discussing something about the Blood Fang pack. My conversation with Helena had me more curious about this pack so I made sure to hide as I listened in on their conversation.
“You serious?” The first person said. “Yeah, on Selena’s name, I’m serious. The Blood Fang pack has been raiding other packs left and right.” The second person replied. “Why would they do that though? I mean, they are powerful enough; it’s not like they needed anything from those packs they raided.” That was true. “It must be some sort of power play.” The first one said. “Power play? What do you mean by that?” “You know, showing all the little wolves that the big wolf is still big and bad. A power play.” “Still don’t get it.” Neither did I. “They are probably carrying raids to remind packs that they are the strongest ones.” “That’s stupid. Why would any pack need a reminder? It’s literally taught in schools that the Blood Fang pack is the most powerful in all of Texas.” “Well if it’s not that, then I don’t know what else.” He said raising his hands in frustration. The second person had stopped talking deep in thought, then suddenly he gasped dramatically, gripping the first man like his life depended on it. “What is it? What’s wrong?” “What if we’re next?” “What?” “I mean, if they’re going around raiding packs, what if our pack is next?” “No. No. I seriously doubt that. We’re fine. They’re not going to come raid us. We’ll be fine.” He responded sounding more as if he was trying to convince himself rather than his friend. “Yeah, you’re right. Let’s not worry about anything.” He agreed to switch the subject. I realized the conversation was over and I snuck away back to the pack house, yay. When I entered the first thing I noticed was how horrible the place looked. It looked like a trailer had run through it, leaving a trail of disaster in its wake. “What on earth?” I asked aloud. A head peeked out from the games room it was Adrian. Out he came, trailed by his entourage of Beatrice and Casey, Cameron was absent. “You’re back Lilli.” He said his tone was too cheerful to bear. “Please don’t call me that.” “What?” He asked the smile disappearing from his face. “I’d rather you not call me Lilli, you can go back to calling me freak, like you all always do.” “Why can’t we call you Lilli, Lilli?” He asked still using the nickname. Because the only people I ever want calling me ‘Lilli’ aren’t alive anymore and hearing that name makes my heart ache, but I can’t say that because it would be no different from giving them ammunition to use against me, so I tried a different approach instead. “It’s far too pretty a name for a defective thing like me.” They always enjoy it when I bring myself down in their presence, here was I hoping this same tactic would work again. Adrian narrowed his eyes at me and I feared I had been discovered. Then he went back to smiling. “Well, you said it, not me.” He said, “Well freak, welcome back.” We were back to ‘freak’ now, that was good. “I’m sure you’re wondering why the house looks like this. Well, you see, after our little visit yesterday, we thought about ways we could make your return feel more welcoming.” He said. “So we put our heads together and realized you love doing chores so much, what better way to welcome you than to have you do more chores!” Beatrice said jumping up and down with glee. “Wow, guys, you shouldn’t have,” I responded, my smile forced and awkward. They really didn’t have to but they did because they were terrible people and they thrived on the suffering of others, specifically my suffering. “No need to thank us, we just knew you’d love it,” Adrian said wrapping his arm around my shoulder. I stiffened at the contact and tried moving my body away to avoid as much contact between us as possible. What was with this person and invading my personal space? “What did Luna say about this?” I asked. “Oh Mom was on board with this, she agreed it would be great for you to return and do something that you’re familiar with.” He responded grinning like a child. “Wonderful. Well, I’d better get to it then.” I said in response, maneuvering my way out of his embrace, I rushed to the supply cabinet. “Have fun!” Casey called out. I looked up to find them going up the stairs with Adrian holding both of their hands. Guess that answered the question of whether or not they were a throuple. Stretching my body, I winced slightly at the pain that radiated from my back. Eyes scanning the house I assessed which place I’d start with. The Luna knowing about this meant I had to be done in time for dinner. Speaking of food, I immediately remembered the spaghetti that I had hidden. I checked the spot where I hid it not bothering to open it because I knew it had gone bad. I dumped it into the trash and decided to start with the pile of dishes and the messy kitchen, that way even if I didn’t finish the rest of the house on time, the kitchen would at least be clean enough for me to make dinner, because Selena forbid the people in this house go a night without food. I made quick work of the dishes and the messy kitchen; it was not as bad as I thought it would be. After that, I headed to the games room- big mistake. The first thing that greeted me was the smell; it smelled like someone had hung curtains that were soaked in alcohol. Bottles and snack nylon were scattered everywhere in the room. I closed the door backing away from it. I was not ready for that. I tackled everywhere else in the house, barring the upstairs, of course, because I did not believe that they would be dumb enough to mess up their parents’ rooms for me to clean, and because throughout the entire time I was cleaning, Adrian and the twins were still upstairs going at it. The sex noises I heard each time I passed the stairs were a good enough deterrent, but it also confirmed that there were no grown-ups in the house. With the rest of the house cleaned up, I finally ventured back into the games room, this time I wore a mask. First, I opened up the curtains and the windows to make the room more breathable, then I got to work picking up the bottles and trash. And I cleaned the room like my life depended on it. I do not know how I did it but I did it. I finished right on time and got started on dinner for them.KILLIAN’S POVIt had been a year already. A year away from my pack, my home, but finally coming home.I watched through the window as the plane flew across the ocean. I never liked travelling. I detested it with a passion. Yet it was something I had to do repeatedly as an Alpha. It was an exhausting thing.“Penny for your thoughts?” Clarke said next to me, as he took a sip of his drink.I chuckled darkly, “You'd need more than a penny for the thoughts going through my mind.” I said in reply.“Ah, so dollar then.” He said with a chuckle.“Hmm. How hilarious.” I said dryly.“But really, though, Killian, what's bothering you. I can feel you thinking.” He said.“I'm worried about the state of things when we get back.” I admitted, “There have been attacks.”“Yes, by rogues and the warriors handled them before they did any real damage.”“I know that, but rogues never once dared to attack us, plus the reports they sent said they always ran away before any one of them could get seriously hurt
SARAH'S POV“I'll meet you over at Camille’s stand,” I told Lilliana.“Are you sure?”, she asked, “I don't mind waiting.”“No, I want to look around a bit more, but I don't want her there too long. So go be with her. I'll be there soon.”She nodded, waved, and walked off to join Camille. I stood back, eyes looking around at the various tent-like stands that were around me. One in particular caught my eye- it sold trinkets and such. I approached it eagerly. “Well, I see you have a great eye.” The person there said.“Really? I just thought it looked pretty.” It was a silver wolf-shaped hairpin with red jewels for its eyes.“A pretty pin for a pretty wolf.” he grinned at me.“How much for it?” I asked.“Hmm, it's only 15 but for you, I'll accept 10.” He said.“10? That's nice of you. Thank you.” I reached into my purse and eagerly brought out the money.“Don’t worry. I got this.” A familiar voice said from behind me and I froze instantly recognizing it. I would recognize that voice anyw
CAMILLE’S POVNervous was not enough to describe how I was feeling. It felt like someone had me tied down with a bucket of rats over my stomach, lit the bucket on fire and the rats had no way to escape except through my stomach. Yeah, that was a better description than nervous. Mr. Vince was perusing the artwork that I had selected to display for the art fair.“These are all splendid, yes splendid works.” He smiled, “I don’t think I can pick just anyone, so why don’t we just display all of them?”“A- all of them?” I repeated, “I don’t know if they are all good enough to all be displayed. What if people don't like them?” My anxiety was showing again. That distinct fear that what I did was not enough, that I wasn't enough. It seemed so ridiculous really. I mean here was my teacher, assuring me that my work was great, that it was what people wanted to see. Yet I could not seem to quiet the voice at the back of my head telling me that I would never be enough, that nothing I did would eve
SIX MONTHS LATERLILLIANA’S POVThe strikes kept coming, left, right, left, right. I tried my best to avoid as much as I could, but soon enough, I couldn’t keep up, and one of them made contact, hitting me across the field, my body making a loud oomph as it landed on the floor.“You alright there Lil?” Erik asked from his side on the field where he was watching the sparring.“I’m good,” I responded breathlessly, jumping to my feet and dusting myself off. I resumed my fighting stance and approached my sparring partner again. This time I was careful to stand more firmly on my feet. The sparring continued for quite some time and I had managed to land my own strikes, though not enough to send her flying, and I managed to not be sent flying again.“Alright enough!” Erik called out, “It’s meal time. You can head on to eat.” I started to gather my things, when a shadow fell across me, it was Erik. He was staring me down, looking at me like he could not believe what he was looking at.“What?
Back at the residence, the White Sea pack had so kindly provided for us, I lugged a drunk Clarke into bed.“Gosh, you are heavy,” I said with a groan as I dropped him on the bed.“I am n-not heavy.” He slurred, “I am light as a feather.”“Sure you are buddy.” I patted his shoulder, then made my way to the bathroom to wash off the scent of alcohol that clung to my clothes.I got out of my clothes and stood in front of the mirror that hung over the sink, my eyes darted across my torso, lingering slightly in the scar that ran diagonally down my chest, starting from my right shoulder to my left hip. It was not a scar I liked to look at as the memories it brought back were far too annoying for me to deal with. It wasn’t a macho male type of thing, I simply was not ready to handle everything that would come if I decided to unpack the emotions that the scar brewed up within me.I stepped into the shower and set the water temperature to high and I turned it on. Soon, steam started to fill the
KILLIAN’S POVAnother day, another fucking country. I was beginning to get tired of all this travelling I was doing. I missed my pack, plus there was also the fact that I was starting to feel uneasy. Trouble was brewing back there and it disturbed me that I didn't know what it was and that I was not around to handle it. Instead, I was stuck here being diplomatic to this pompous fuck in front of me.“So Alpha Thorne,” The Alpha of the pack I was looking to form an alliance with said, “Why are you here exactly?”He was asking me this question again. Even though I had already answered him several times. He seemed to take delight in asking me the same thing over and over again, but in different forms; it was almost like he was trying to showcase his English skills.“As I’ve said before Alpha Bane, I wish for our packs to have a friendly relationship with each other. An alliance, if you will. So that in times of trouble we can be there for each other and we can also learn new ways that wil
