The preseason tore through the league like a storm.

In Vancouver, fans packed the arena every night shouting one chant that echoed through the rafters:

“Thorne Burn! Thorne Burn!”

Alex Thorne had become unstoppable.

His skating was faster than ever. His shots hit the net with explosive power. Teammates stared in the locker room as he peeled off his gear, whispering about how he suddenly looked stronger and sharper than anyone on the ice.

Coach just laughed from the bench.

“Whatever magic you found in Toronto,” he said, “keep it. We might win the Cup with it.”

Alex smiled… but inside he felt something darker.

The thirst was getting stronger.

Sometimes during practice he could hear teammates’ heartbeats clearly. The bright arena lights made everything feel sharper—sounds, smells, even emotions.

And the bite mark on his neck still tingled.

Jake’s bite.

Calgary

The road trip brought the Vancouver Grizzlies to Calgary, home of the Calgary Flames.

Jake Harlow’s territory.

Alex stayed in a cheap motel far from the team hotel. He needed privacy.

At night, right on time, someone knocked once on the door.

Jake stepped inside.

For a second they just stared at each other.

Then Jake closed the door and smiled.

“All mine tonight,” he said quietly.

Alex didn’t answer. He just pulled him into a fierce kiss.

Days of tension disappeared in seconds.

Later, when they finally slowed down, Jake opened the small refrigerator.

Inside were sealed blood bags.

He handed one to Alex.

“Your first real drink,” Jake said.

Alex hesitated… then took a careful sip.

Warm metallic flavor filled his mouth, followed by a rush of strength that spread through his entire body.

Alex wiped his mouth, stunned.

“Okay,” he laughed. “That’s… intense.”

Jake’s eyes shone with pride.

“You’re rising now.”

Flames vs. Grizzlies

The next night the arena in Calgary was packed.

Fans had made signs reading “Fangs vs Fire.”

When Alex and Jake lined up at the faceoff circle, the energy was electric.

Alex scored again and again that night—three goals in total.

A hat trick.

But Jake’s defense was just as impressive. Several times he stole the puck from Alex in perfect timing, stopping dangerous plays before they formed.

Their rivalry looked more intense than ever.

But only they knew the truth behind it.

At one point they both ended up sitting in the penalty box.

Jake leaned closer.

“Tonight,” he whispered, “we finish it.”

The Third Bite

Later at Jake’s condo overlooking the Bow River, candles lit the quiet room.

The city lights glittered outside.

Jake approached Alex slowly.

“This is the last step,” he said.

Alex nodded.

“I’m ready.”

Jake bit him carefully.

A powerful wave of energy surged through Alex’s body. His senses sharpened even more, his skin cooled, and his fangs appeared fully for the first time.

When he looked in the mirror later, his eyes glowed faint silver.

Alex smiled.

“So it’s official.”

Jake wrapped his arms around him.

“Forever.”

The Exposure

Morning shattered the peace.

Phones buzzed nonstop.

News alerts filled every screen.

Victor Kane had released a massive online post claiming proof that two NHL players were vampires.

Old photos of Jake from decades ago. Blurry pictures from the gala fight. Close-ups of bite marks.

The internet exploded.

#VampNHL trended worldwide.

Alex’s coach left angry voicemails.

His teammate Brody sent shocked messages.

“I knew something was weird… but this?”

The league announced an emergency investigation.

Suspensions might be coming.

Into the Mountains

Alex and Jake didn’t wait for the storm to hit.

They drove deep into the mountains to Jake’s remote cabin.

Snow covered the trees, hiding their tracks.

Inside the cabin, the fire crackled quietly.

Alex sat beside Jake, experimenting with his new fangs.

“So hunters are coming now?” he asked.

Jake nodded slowly.

“Probably.”

Alex leaned closer and kissed him softly.

“Then it’s us against the world.”

Jake smiled faintly.

“Always.”

Outside, the wind moved through the snow-covered forest.

The hockey season had barely begun.

But the real fight for their future had just started.
