CORVINS POV

Corvin was a vigorous 15-year-old lycan boy with bright grey eyes and his pack’s distinctive silver hair. He was the alpha’s son, thoroughly trained to prepare for the day he would take his father’s esteemed place. But he didn’t plan on doing that for many years.

He was a good child who usually behaved well for his parents and found pride in training to be the best. He wasn’t arrogant. It just brought him joy to work with his pack, who were his family. They grew stronger, and sparring was a fun game.

But this was no game. He dashed through the door his parents had forbidden him ever to enter. Instead, he flew through the dark hallway. Repercussions later, now he had to find his parents. There was a dire emergency on the castle grounds.

The steadfast pack was bravely fighting off a massive horde of evil invaders. The invaders entered unannounced through the mines below their home. They should never have made it this far. His parents were on patrol and should have squashed them.

. But they were nowhere to be found. Corvin’s blood ran cold as their wolf bond grew faint. It could only mean one terrible thing. There was no time to consider that.

He had to focus on avoiding being heard by the enemy. Reluctantly, he slowed down so he could silence his movements. His beloved bond with his mother suddenly snapped. Immediately, he opened his mouth to howl with all the pain of the sudden terrible loss. But he swallowed back the heart-wrenching sound to remain silent.

The walls and ceiling became the natural stone of the mines as he left the comfort of his castle. The smell of spilt wolf blood assaulted his nose. Corvin stopped and listened closely. But there was no way to be sure what he was running into.

He followed the sound of ragged breathing. As he got closer, the smell of blood assaulted him. His mother’s mangled body lay discarded on the cold ground.

Her beautiful naked body was mauled, skin torn deeply, her blood-soaked the floor beneath her. His heart stopped in his chest. Now was not the time for tears.

White-hot anger flooded him, and he turned towards the still living scent of his father. He would at least be able to help him. He ran towards the sounds of fighting.

His heroic father had the monster pinned up against the unrelenting wall. A pile of bodies littered the floor. His parents had held their own. But no, his mother was dead, and his father was severely injured.

The shiny metal in the hand of the intruder glimmered in the dark. Corvin rushed towards them, changing into his wolf form as he ran. He pushed his father out of the way. Then, he grabbed the evil bastard with his powerful jaws.

Throwing him violently to the ground, Corvin attacked ferociously. He didn’t stop until covered in wet blood and thoroughly ripped out the man’s throat. Then, Corvin turned slowly towards his fallen father.

He was lying on the unforgiving ground surrounded by a puddle of slippery black blood that grew steadily around him. Corvin shifted back, kneeling mournfully beside his father.

He had been too late. The hateful knife was protruding out of his father’s exposed throat. Corvin threw his head back before howling out his anger and sorrow.

With his parents gone, it would be up to him to lead his enduring pack to undeniable victory. Mom and Dad would want that. He headed back to the door that led out of the mines.

First, they had to completely clear their cherished home, the castle. Then, Corvin could lead his pack in clearing the desolate and otherwise abandoned mines. He quickly latched the defensive door with the magical lock. Warlocks had given the device to his parents a long time ago.

Now, he had no time to examine how the lock had failed to keep the invaders out. He would have to do that later. Instead, now, he moved swiftly through the halls dispatching anyone that didn’t belong. Corvin was a vicious sight of ferocity as his overwhelming emotions pushed him forward faster and stronger than ever.

He exited the castle and began ferociously patrolling the perimeter of their home. None of the hideous invaders that he came across were strong enough to stop or even really slow him down. He was a ruthless killing machine.

As he rounded the last corner, he slid to a stop. His promised mate stood there in human form, looking fretfully at the castle. He wanted to shake her for not already being out there defending their home.

“What are you doing?” He asked angrily. “They are attacking.”

She shook her head slowly as sadness radiated off of her. “I am leaving. I found love in the human world.” Her voice was wistfully apologetic as she begged him to understand.

“Hey darling, I am here.” A human man whispered from the other side of the steep stone wall. “Come, let's escape here.”

Corvin snarled at the unknown voice. He could jump over this fence and tear the man’s throat out without a second thought. But her eyes beset him imploringly. He didn’t have time for the human anyway; he had to get back to the real fight.

A torrent of emotions flooded through him. She couldn’t leave while her beloved family was under a devastating attack. As her pack, they were her family and should be her number one concern- not some outsider!

Plus, she was his. They had been promised to each other since before he could remember. He had grown so fond of her over the years.

He had even learned to love her for the beautiful woman she was on the inside and out. How could she so heartlessly ask him to let her go? How could he willingly do as she asked?

She walked up to him and knelt before him. Her affectionate eyes locked with his. “I must go. Should you ever find love, you would understand. Do not be angry at my beloved, for he is not to blame.”

He tilted his head and whined. “But you are mine. We belong together.”

She shook her head in denial. “I am not. I do not belong to anyone, big brother.” The pack endearment tore at his heart.

“But who will I mate with? The council will only let me lead for so long without a luna. Plus, they will come after you.” His desperate confusion filled his voice. He felt so lost.

Tears fell from her pensive eyes as she promised, “If you have not mated by my daughter’s 18th year, you may have that piece of me.”

“Go.” He growled before turning from her and running into the infested courtyard where the invaders were concentrated. He didn’t have time for the charlatan. His treasured pack waited for him. He let out one long mournful howl before the enemy forces turned to him and completely overran him.
