Denise leaned against a tree near the cabin, watching Marcy and Aiden who were exchanging their goodbyes in front of the door.
The place was deep in the pack's woods, somewhere Aiden seemed to own. Every time he met with Marcy or any other girl, he would always bring them there...and unfortunately, he'd also have Denise tag along. Rather than her who he was to marry, he found pleasure in other women. He had never been interested in her as a woman, instead Aiden only cared about her appearance. For that, she was a bit relieved."So, in two days...this place? I'll call you if anything changes, yeah?"Marcy gave him a shrug, noisily smacking her lips together as she chewed on a gum she dug up from somewhere inside. "Whatever.""Are you upset?" Aiden frowned, hands drifting up under the dress shirt she had just slipped on and riding straight up to her breasts, cupping them. He leaned his head against her shoulder, a sly grin on his lips as his tongue travelled across her neck, "How should I make it up to you, babe? Whatever you want...I'll let you have it."Denise turned away at that point."I'll take whatever's in your pocket along with that watch you got there. Next time, I'm not letting you off easy.""As you wish. Anything for you~""W-Wait... that tickles! Don't stick your finger in!""Sorry~""By the way, don't you dare fuck that stupid, loose bitch in my stead! She irritates me. I know you can't marry me because I was a rogue, but at least marry someone with manners and class. You can do much better, babe."Denise frowned at the disrespect, but didn't open her mouth to answer. If she said anything, Marcy would never let it finish."Refrain from talking shit about my fiancé." Aiden's expression had gone completely serious in an instant. His head was already off Marcy's shoulder and his face was void of all playfulness. But before Denise could even begin to think he had just defended her, a grin wider than the ocean quickly ran to his face. Then, Marcy burst into a fit of laughter."Let's fuck long and hard next time, yeah?"A sigh left Denise's lips. They were mocking her again, like always. She remained silent until he finished flirting and walked over to her, grabbing her with the same hands that had just fiddled Marcy in a million different ways.Ignoring how gut wrenching his hold was, Denise allowed him to pull her along as they made their way back to the pack house. They barely passed any wolves on the way, which meant the others were sleeping or getting ready for their full moon run.In minutes, they were at the edge of the woods, and just ahead was their pack house...a large building that kept more than fifty wolves housed. Others, lived in little cottages nearby.A wolf jogged up to them through the faint darkness, handing Aiden a bottle before wandering off again. Aiden quickly sprayed it all over, completely hiding Marcy's scent. It was something he always did after meeting women so his father would not catch on."Is he already here? The Alpha guest?"Aiden took a quick sniff and nodded his head. "It appears so."That was good news on her part. The sooner they arrived, the sooner this meeting would end!Denise went to move off, expecting Aiden to follow, but when he remained in place, she looked back."Tonight..." He started, "I'm not sure what father has planned so don't wander off on your own.""Huh?""Even though I'm heir, I've never been invited to important meetings like this before. I'm guessing there's a reason behind having not only me, but also you there. So, I'm saying...stay by my side."When Denise's face twisted with confusion, Aiden only laughed, inciting even greater confusion, "That's just in case my father plans to sell you off to that Alpha. You're the prettiest I've seen in all my life, if I can't have you...no one else can."'Oh, that's what it is.' Denise thought. She could never understand the minds of prideful Alphas. He did not want her, yet he claimed she was his."Let's go." He hauled her out of the woods and headed for the pack house where the meeting would be held but before they could near the front door, it was suddenly pulled open and the alpha stepped out. Then, behind him... the last person she expected to see followed. Her Father; Wyatt Vera, Alpha of the Moon Born Pack!"F-Father, you're here? H-How?"Could he have returned for her?"You still don't know how to greet your superiors, do you?!" Was the first thing he spat as soon as his eyes laid on her, face scrunching in distaste.Panicking, Denise immediately bowed but her father didn't bother taking another glance at her worthless figure. Her existence alone made him sick to the stomach. Ignoring her, his eyes moved to Aiden, a big smile quickly forming at his lips. "Forgive me if this hooligan has caused you any disgrace.""She has just the right dose of cuteness, so I don't mind at all." Aiden laughed, "From where did you get such a woman? Her looks are far superior to all I've seen. Is she really your daughter?"Wyatt did not pick up on the disguised insult but his smile still dropped immediately. "You're right, a monster like that...is no child of mine."Denise lowered her head, stuffing her wobbling lips between her teeth. He was right...beneath that pretty face of hers, she was a monster. And all she'd done to her father, was bring him misery. When he sold her off, she was honestly kind of glad. Being tossed aside and betrayed by her own family...was the best punishment they could give her.Frowning at her thoughts, she glanced up, noticing that the moon had begun to shine brightly in the night sky. Her shift was nearing...she could feel it."Enough with the pleasantries." Aiden's father; Denver, spoke up this time, and Denise looked over at him, catching the weird look he sent her way. "Denise, isn't it time for your shift?""It is." Denise answered quickly, "But I was t-told to attend the meeting before I am chained.""Yes." His grin widened, "You'll be the main event tonight, after all.""Main event?" Aiden piped in, both him and Denise was in a pit of confusion. "What do you mean? Father, don't tell me you really plan to sell off my fia—""Why...is there no one to greet me at your border?" A chilling voice split through the air and Denise felt a sudden cold, ominous breeze fly past her at the sound. But along with it, came a strange yet pleasant twist in the pit of her stomach."Who the hell do you people think I am?"All heads swept to the edge of the woods, spotting a figure standing gracefully under the moonlight, his emerald eyes sparkling like little diamonds through the darkness.Their orbs met the second she turned around to face him, but then, as if that mere eye-contact was the trigger, she felt her whole body heat up in an instant as a delectable sensation ran through her being. His face which had been buried deep in anger quickly depleted, and he tilted his head, staring at her blankly."Mate!" Her wolf howled!Raina; her wolf, had never spoken in years. And now, when she finally decided to speak, her first words were ‘MATE’. It was safe to say, Denise was astounded. If anyone were to really listen, they’d definitely hear her heartbeat loud and clear! The handsome man standing before her had his rock-hard stare pinned to her form and his bulked muscles coupled with his towering height made him as intimidating as anyone could get. Raina was saying HE was her mate? When was the last time she’d even heard of fated mates? Werewolves had long disregarded the wishes of their goddess and took fate into their own hands. No waiting. No hoping. None of that. Their mates were whomever they chose. There were only a few who actually managed to meet and mark their fated partners…very few. That was why Denise couldn’t believe it. Her fated mate? Why would the moon goddess bless her with a mate? Was this her way of saying that she could finally find happiness? Was this truly a sign that her suffering was
“Shield us from what?” “Her.” Denise’s blood ran cold. This couldn’t mean what she thought it did. But unfortunately, that was exactly what Alpha Denver and Wyatt had in mind. They wanted her to shift…right before them and eradicate those four wolves, the more brutality the better. Whether she wanted to fight or not, was something they couldn’t care less about. She’d do it and that was final. After all, the buyer should first get a sample of the product before handing over the dollars.Tonight…was the night of their most valuable deal, a deal he had planned with Wyatt. At first, Denver wanted Denise for his pack, but then it struck him…’If he had paid so much for her, how much would an Alpha like Kain pay him in exchange for an undefeated she-wolf like her?’ He’d strike it rich in an instant! A she-wolf who fought like raging bulls was the perfect fit for a pack of savages like his. They were tyrants, wicked wolves who only cared about themselves and the royal family. Everyone els
Now completely surrounded by darkness, Denise’s mind wandered off on its own to the memories of the past, things that had gradually eroded her happiness these past few years, things that she wanted to forget but couldn’t and others that she wanted to cherish. She remembered everything like it was yesterday, the good times and the bad times altogether. Back then, her father was a beta, so he barely spent time with his family. But when he did find the chance to return to her and her siblings, he’d always bring them presents, sweets, toys, anything he could find. And even when he was exhausted, he’d always join them to play random games during the early nights, meanwhile their mother went to rest. Then, on weekends they'd spend the whole day together, as a family. She liked it then, because she was happy. Everyday was pure joy. She had friends at school, siblings who would give her anything she wanted, a dad who would tear down the world for her, a mother who cared for them more than
“We’ll lend her to you for a reasonable price. Are you interested?” Denise was undoubtedly getting sold all over again and to another pack at that. But this time, she was being bought by an Alpha, one that was her mate. Her chest tingled with an emotion she had long forgotten…excitement. She was excited. Today, she was happy. With her wolf now under his control, even if she shifted, as long as he was by her side, it’d be okay. Everything would be okay. Or so she hoped. “I didn’t tell you to move.” Kain said, looking over at her with a raise of his brow. “Why are you curled up over there? How spineless can you be?” His hand patted his thigh and Denise’s heart drummed against her chest as she glanced at his lap. Hesitantly, she climbed to her feet and listened to his command, inching over to him. She was nervous and flustered but she wouldn’t let this chance pass her by so easily. With her skin blazing in anticipation, she slowly closed the distance between them. Then, to her surp
After the meeting with Denver, Kain left the pack grounds. He hadn’t said goodbye, he hadn’t laid another finger on her, nothing. For that, Denise was a bit disappointed. But she heard him promise Denver of his return, so she didn’t give in to worry and instead, trusted those words. For the next few hours, she happily cleansed every nook and cranny of the pack house and despite not being able to cook well, the pack also had her take care of every single meal they wanted. The taste was the least of their worries, they just wanted to make sure she had no free time on her hands. Afterwards, her father --who was still livid that he was sent out earlier-- had her clean the dungeons even though they were not normally cleaned at all. Inside, there were rats, dead prisoners that she had to dispose of, bugs, torn flesh and blood. She absolutely despised the sight, but he didn’t allow her to leave until all thirty unoccupied dungeons were clean. So, she spent the rest of the day straight up u
“C-Can I pick up these first?” Denise darted her eyes to the floor littered with the apples she had carefully cut and the shattered glass plate she placed them on. “A-And I need to call the doctor before he dies…” Her gaze then shifted to Luke and she felt a pang of guilt course through her. This…was her fault. “Leave it. I’ll have the old fart take care of it.” Kain tightened his fingers around hers and pulled her to his side, her shoulders brushing his. She looked over at the side of his face as he walked her to the exit, her cheeks reddening. He looked handsome, even from that angle. His skin was flawless, his jawline was well sculpted and his features were fierce yet…she strangely felt so safe beside him. She was right to not doubt his words. He said he’d be back and he did return, at her time of desperation too. Even though his methods were harsh, he saved her. Her savior. “Old fart? Do you mean our Alpha?” She dropped her gaze reluctantly. If she stared any longer, she’d bore
“Move, weakling.” Kain’s hand gripped her wrist, a crack sounding from the force of the hold. “What do you think you’re doing?” Aiden, on the other hand, gripped Marcy’s upper arm, right above her elbows, and squeezed hard enough that her skin reddened under his fingers. As the whole hall went silent, a grunt left Marcy’s lips and she quickly craned her neck, her face scrunching up in pain. At the act of submission, Kain released her wrist and stepped forward, towering over her with a glare so intense that her eyes dropped to the floor immediately, “Know your place.” Denise blinked her eyes open, hesitantly removing her arm from in front her face and lowering it to her side. Again, she had been saved, twice in just a few minutes. But both times, someone else ended up getting hurt. Marcy’s arm bled where Aiden was gripping her, and her bone had definitely cracked due to Kain’s hold earlier. “I apologize for her behavior.” Aiden stepped to the side, pulling Marcy with him as she cra
It was during Denise's birthday ceremony that her wolf first showed herself. As her bones cracked painfully under her skin and her body changed it’s form, her blood thirst rapidly rose to its highest level. A day that was supposed to be filled with happiness, had become a day of bloodshed, a day that haunted her. Then during her father’s appointment as alpha, she shifted again. He almost lost his title the very day he got it…all because of her. It was hard back then. Because at first she had everything, and in an instant, she had nothing. Everything had been taken from her and she would never be able to get her old life back. That was why…this time, she wouldn’t let this pass her. Her mate was her last hope of happiness and the last person left for the goddess to take from her. What ever it took, she’d have him. It was nearly sunset and having made her decision, Denise gobbled up the leftovers from the table, washed the dishes, cleaned the kitchen, bathed, then rushed to the front
