“You bastard!” I muttered, almost under my breath, yet loud enough to make Hugo chuckle in satisfaction.

“I knew that would be your first reaction,” he said, rubbing his nose, pink from the cold. “But please, hold off on any murderous impulses, at least until we reach the altar, okay?”

I stood frozen. I couldn’t scream, couldn’t run, couldn’t even laugh at the absurdity. My mind weighed whether to bolt for Hugo’s imaginary igloo or shove him into the frozen lake.

“This week?” I repeated, needing to be sure I’d heard correctly. “You’re joking, right?”

“I wish it sounded like a romantic joke. Sadly, it’s real! Very real!”

I groaned, burying my face in both hands. “You’re insane. Completely, utterly insane!”

“But I am, if nothing else, a man of careful planning,” he added swiftly. “Everything has been arranged. The venue in Segovia, the dress and suit to be tailored upon our return. Even my grandmother has drawn up the entire ceremony sequence… including, ahem, the moment where we’re mea

I sat by the window, letting the city lights fall across my face. Outside, the Parisian sky was still alive with the glitter of night, but inside this room, everything felt suddenly frozen. There was only the ticking of the clock and the steady rhythm of Hugo’s breath, as if mocking the chaos inside my head.I looked at him once more. That man. The one who was supposed to be my enemy, yet had become something I was terrified to lose. How did I end up here? When was the last time I truly knew what I was doing?I thought I was in control of everything, this relationship, these feelings, even his fate. But without realizing it, I was the one caught in the web I had spun myself.I leaned back in the chair and closed my eyes, trying to retrace my steps. Everything that had happened between us. The soft laughter in the car, the ridiculous things he did just to make me smile, the way he said my name as if it were a prayer he whispered daily. Those moments were simple, yet deadly. Because wit

He stirred slightly in his sleep, murmuring something I couldn’t quite catch. I waited, trying to grasp the word that slipped past his lips.Only one reached me, carried faintly on his breath. My name. For a moment, my heart stopped. He had called me. In his sleep. With a softness that sent tremors through my body.I stood frozen, trying to shake off the strange sensation spreading beneath my skin. He was probably dreaming, I told myself. And yet, his voice had felt so real, so sincere, as if he were truly calling out to me from somewhere deep within him.I moved closer, unable to resist the pull. Standing beside him, I watched his face, now slightly restless. My brows furrowed.“Hugo?” I whispered. He didn’t answer, but the lines on his forehead eased the moment my fingers touched his hand. He grew still again. And I knew, if only for a fleeting second, I was the reason for that calm.It didn’t feel fair. The world was full of injustices, but this one pierced deepest. How could someo

The master bedroom was the final stop of our long tour today. The moment Hugo’s body sank onto the bed, silence settled over the room. He managed only a few murmured replies before falling still, as though every trace of energy had been drained from him.I turned toward him. A small smile found its way to my lips as I saw him already fast asleep, still in the same position he had collapsed in. There was something soothing about the way he slept, as if the world, which had always demanded so much of him, had finally granted him permission to rest.Slowly, I stepped closer, letting the sound of my footsteps dissolve into the softness of the carpet. My eyes couldn’t turn away from his face, worn yet peaceful. There were faint shadows beneath his eyes, the kind drawn by long hours and too many thoughts, but also a calmness that somehow reached me too. That face always had a strange way of breaking through my defenses. Even in silence, something within it felt alive, warm, sincere, and qui

“So do I,” he murmured. “But it’s the only one I will never regret.”I took a deep breath, letting the silence fill the space between us. I knew I would always yield to that gaze. I didn’t know how many more times I would lose, but I no longer wanted to resist. I would follow this feeling. The night breeze slipped through the gap in the glass window, carrying the faint scent of roses and damp earth. The garden lights shimmered softly, reflecting on the dewy leaves. I looked at the view for a long while, letting the beauty seep into my chest, then turned to Hugo, who was now sitting closer. His shoulder nearly brushed mine.“I don’t know what to say,” I whispered. “All of this feels too... beautiful. Too vast for me to understand.”Hugo turned, the corner of his lips lifting slightly, though his eyes stayed serious. “You don’t have to understand, Ana. Just feel it. Because what I’ve built here isn’t only walls and a roof, but a feeling.”I laughed softly, nervous. “You sound like a poe

Tonight, the Paris sky is strewn with stars, as though painting an endless canvas. The long journey from Lyon had felt so brief that I only realized now, Hugo hadn’t taken me to the Cassilas mansion with its echo of family history, but to another estate entirely. A mansion rebuilt, stitched together from every vision I had ever whispered to him, even from dreams I never thought he had been listening to.The iron gates opened slowly, automatically, like curtains parting to reveal a new world. On either side, more than five men stood at attention. Their black suits concealed what I could not see but could feel. Weapons, loyalty, and a reminder that security always walked hand in hand with threat.“Do you like it?” Hugo’s whisper brushed my ear as he kissed the back of my hand, the small gesture feeling like a seal, one of devotion and possession all at once.“This soon?” I didn’t immediately look at him. My eyes were fixed on the winding path ahead, the immaculate garden, and, my breath

I kept staring at Hugo, who was now steering without once letting go of my hand. There was weariness etched on his face. Yet in his eyes, I saw a light of happiness.Dario. Somehow that man still lingered in my thoughts. I should have been pleased with what Dario had done to Hugo. But instead, I found myself worrying over a man who did not deserve my sympathy or my pity.“If you keep looking at me like that, I will stop this car and kiss you.”I scoffed softly, then smiled. His hand, still clasping mine, rose and brushed a kiss across my knuckles.“What do you want to eat?” he asked. For a moment I thought, then looked at him.“I want a warm chocolate croissant. And a smile from my husband that never fails to cast its charm. But I will not eat it if that charm is also given to anyone else.”Hugo chuckled. His hand tousled my loose hair, then he glanced at me with a shake of his head, as though he had just heard the most spoiled yet most human request ever spoken from my lips. Which in
