MAYA

All through the night, I had my mind on Grandmother.

I couldn’t sleep. I tossed and turned on my bed, staring up at the dark, cracked ceiling. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw her standing near the dining table, her milky eyes fixed on the portrait of Princess Philomena, her lips moving in that silent, terrifying chant.

What does she know about me? And also, how was it possible for her to stop the effect of the picture?

She was supposed to be a simple herbalist from a rural village, an old woman dragged into the palace just because her desperate granddaughter needed college money. But a common herbalist couldn't neutralize ancestral magic. She had pushed back against the full weight of a Princess’s soul, shielding Clara from my curse with a single silent prayer.

Thinking about it made me remember the book.

My heart thumped against my ribs as I sat up in the dark. Underneath the loose floorboard at the edge of my small room lay the ancient, leather-bound grimoire I had recovered from Mr. Orlando. It was the sacred spellbook of Princess Philomena, containing forgotten runic scripts, ancient curses, and dark truths about our bloodline.

I had stopped using it for some time now.

Ever since I noticed how heavy the dark energy felt in my chest every time I turned its yellowed pages, I had hidden it away. It felt too dangerous, too unpredictable. But now, my back was pressed against the wall. Grandmother was actively blocking my magic, Clara was in Edward's private suite, and Maria was spinning her web closer around my mate's throat.

The book also affects Maria, but I was determined to read it and find out what Grandmother knows and how to stop her from letting them know that I am Philomena.

If Grandmother truly recognized my soul, it was only a matter of time before she spoke the truth out loud. If Maria found out that the maid sweeping her floors was actually the reincarnated Princess Philomena returned from the grave, she wouldn't just try to humiliate me—she would order her executioners to burn me to ash.

I crept across the cold wooden floor, my bare feet silent against the planks. I reached into the narrow gap beneath the loose board and pulled out the heavy book. The dark leather felt icy cold against my warm fingers, vibrating with a low, subtle hum that made the tiny hairs on my arms stand up.

I carried it over to my bedside table, striking a match to light a small candle.

I sat down, taking a deep, shuddering breath, and reached out to unbuckle the brass clasp holding the ancient pages shut.

The moment I opened the book, I heard Grandmother and Maria screaming!

The sharp, blood-curdling shrieks tore through the silent night, echoing down the high stone corridors like the cries of souls trapped in eternal fire!

I gasped, dropping my hands from the open pages, and rushed to the small window that looked out over the internal courtyard toward the upper suites.

I looked and saw them with their hands on their heads!

Through the lighted glass windows of the grand hall, Maria was on her knees, clutching her skull so hard her dark hair fell wildly over her face, weeping and writhing on the cold marble floor. A few doors down, in the guest chamber, Grandmother was doubled over her bedside table, her hands pressed tightly over her temples as her body shook with violent, uncontrollable agony!

"AARGH! My brain! It's burning!" Maria's muffled screams carried through the open night air, raw and breathless. "Make it stop! Someone make the fire in my head stop!"

In her room, Grandmother groaned loudly, collapsing onto the floor, her face twisted in pure, agonizing torture as if an invisible vice was crushing her forehead from the inside out.

I stood by my window, my hands gripping the wooden frame, my mouth slightly open as I watched the chaos unfold. Clara was running back and forth in panic, crying for her grandmother, while the guards outside Maria's room banged on the doors, completely helpless.

I looked back at the bedside table where the ancient book lay open under the flickering candlelight. The strange, dark runes etched on the parchment were glowing with a faint, crimson light, radiating a powerful aura that filled my entire room.

Now it makes sense.

A heavy, sudden clarity washed over my mind, making my heart freeze in my chest.

The book affects those with soiled hands or will I say, with some diabolic powers!

It wasn't just a simple book of spells; it was a spiritual mirror! It acted as a divine purge against dark, corrupt magic. Pure, untainted souls felt nothing when the book was opened, but anyone carrying dark magic, diabolic spells, or blood-stained intentions in their heart was instantly struck with excruciating pain the second its sacred pages met the air!

Maria was filled with dark malice, greed, and wicked schemes, which was why the book tortured her brain. And Grandmother... Grandmother wasn't just a harmless elder protecting her family. She carried ancient, forbidden ancestral magic in her veins—diabolic powers she had used to alter fates, block curses, and shield evil!

A slow, cold smile spread across my face as I walked back to the table, looking down at the glowing red runes.

I didn't need to fear Grandmother's secrets anymore. Her own power was her ultimate weakness. As long as I held Princess Philomena's grimoire in my hands, her diabolic magic would burn her from the inside out every single time she tried to raise it against me.

I reached out, my fingers lightly tracing the ancient words on the page, feeling the immense, unstoppable power of my true heritage pulsing beneath my skin.

"Let the war begin," I whispered into the quiet darkness.

MAYAThe silence in the sitting room stretched tight, pulled so thin it felt as if a single breath would snap it. Maria stared at me across the mahogany tea table, her dark eyes wide and fixed, her chest heaving beneath her velvet gown. The question I had thrown at her—Was that why you killed her?—hung in the air like a heavy cloud of smoke. Then, the dam broke.Maria went on and on explaining that she did not kill Philomena."I didn't kill her!" she burst out, her voice rising into a sharp, erratic screech that echoed off the high stone walls. She threw her hands in the air, pacing frantically back and forth across the rug, her silk skirt rustling loudly. "You don't know anything, Maya! You weren't here! You listen to rumors and old maid gossip and think you understand the history of this palace! She fell and hit her head and died! It was an accident! A tragic, foolish accident!"I didn't move an inch. I kept my palms flat on the dark wood of the table, my body completely still, watc

  • GHOST REVENGE   TIME

MAYA"Are you looking for a child for the Alpha, or are you looking for a vagina to service?"I dropped the question into the quiet night air like a heavy iron weight. She was almost out of sight, her dark silk dress vanishing around the corner of the corridor, but I was loud enough and she heard. The sound of her retreating footsteps instantly stopped. The grandfather clock in the corner ticked loudly in the suffocating stillness—tick, tick, tick. I stood beside the small tea table, my knuckles white as I gripped the edge of the dark mahogany, my chest heaving up and down in shallow, controlled breaths. The Sacred Book of Pack Laws lay wide open on page ten in front of me, but I didn't need to look at the yellowed parchment anymore. The sick, twisted loophole was burned into my mind. For a long, agonizing moment, Maria didn't move. She stood frozen in the dim torchlight near the stone archway, her back turned to me, her shoulders stiff as a board under her heavy velvet cloak.Slowly,

MAYAI woke up from the bad dream, my heart hammering against my ribs, drenched in cold sweat. I sat up in the dark, breathing heavily, clutching the bedsheets tightly in my hands.I refused to accept it.I shook my head violently in the quiet room. How could my own past self tell me I was never meant to hold a child? How could she tell me that bringing Edward’s baby into this world would end my life? No. I had fought through death, survived the cold earth of the tomb, and reclaimed my rightful place beside the man I loved. I was not going to let a vision or a ghost rob me of the ultimate joy of motherhood. I must have a baby, and not even the Moon Goddess can stop that. The next morning, Edward returned from his trip to the northern territory. He looked tired, his broad shoulders heavy with the weight of pack duties, but the moment he saw me, his amber eyes softened with that deep, familiar warmth. I didn't waste any time. After we embraced, I sat him down on the edge of our bed and

  • GHOST REVENGE   NO BABY FOR YOU

MAYAThe palace had finally fallen into a quiet rhythm, but the calm was nothing more than the silence before a storm.I sat near the tall stained-glass window in the drawing room, sipping warm chamomile tea, watching the afternoon sun cast long shadows across the courtyard. Edward was always away handling pack business, and for a few days, I thought I could breathe. Then Maria walked into the room. She looked battered, her palms still calloused from sweeping the stone streets, but her face held that same insufferable, arrogant sneer. She held a thick leather binder under her arm and threw it onto the table in front of me with a heavy thud."What is this?" I asked, setting my cup down with a cold stare."Options," Maria said, crossing her arms over her chest. "The Alpha is not getting any younger. A pack cannot survive without a strong, blood-line heir, and since you seem to spend your nights casting dark spells instead of producing a child, I have taken matters into my own hands. I h

MAYAMy heart hammered against my ribs like a trapped bird, but I kept my posture straight and my eyes fixed on the silver goblet in front of me.I said nothing, trying to ignore the question. I picked up my napkin and wiped the corner of my mouth as if I hadn't just spoken the name of a dead princess into the quiet dining hall.Edward didn't break his gaze. His amber eyes were blazing, his chest heaving under his dark tunic. "Maya, answer me! Who were you thanking?"Before I could invent a smooth lie, a sharp, ragged voice burst from the doorway."I told you! I told you she is possessed with evil and the spirit of the dead!" Maria screamed, staggering back into the grand hall, clutching her dirty sweeping cloak around her bruised shoulders. She looked unhinged, her hair wild and her eyes bloodshot as she pointed a trembling, dirt-stained finger straight at me. "You heard her, Edward! You heard her with your own ears! She just thanked the ghost of Philomena! She is using black magic t

  • GHOST REVENGE   REVENGE IS THE MISSION

MAYADiscovering that Orlando was my dad made me happy and at the same time angry.I stood in the middle of the quiet cemetery, staring at his mossy headstone with a storm of emotions raging in my chest. I was angry because he should have told me the truth during those thirty-six days of my restoration. He had sat across from me, handed me the book and watched me cry, yet he kept his identity a secret. But at the same time, I was happy—deeply, overwhelmingly happy—that he loved me enough to cross the boundary between life and death just to save my soul and give me a second chance.I turned my head toward the woman standing beside me, my voice barely a whisper against the cool morning wind. "Does it mean the dead can see us?" I asked the woman at the grave. She looked at me with gentle, wise eyes, her woolen shawl wrapped tightly around her shoulders. "The dead do not just see us, my child," she replied softly. "Those who loved us in life remain as shadows and whispers around our steps
