CHAPTER 36 - Mirabella’s POV

The sound of running water echoed faintly down the hallway, muffled by the penthouse’s thick walls. Somewhere in there, Giovanni was rinsing the blood from his skin from the incident earlier.

I won't lie, I was terrified. Skilled assassins were sent after me. I mean, who wouldn't be? And the only reason I agreed to come here with Giovanni is because I knew he was right. They didn’t get him the first time, so they'd definitely be back.

My eyes kept drifting to the place where his shirt had landed on the marble countertop, it was stiff with dried blood, his blood. I didn’t know if the knot in my stomach was from worry, adrenaline, or the lingering image of him standing between me and those bullets.

I needed to do something with my hands. Something normal. Something that didn’t involve thinking about the fact that the man I was now stuck with could have died on my fucking porch.

The kitchen was sleek, all black granite and stainless steel. It

CHAPTER 44- Mirabella’s POV The door slammed behind me, and the echo rang in my ears long after. I clutched the sheets tighter against my body, the fabric twisted and awkward, clinging to me in a mockery of dignity. The gown I had walked into his room with lay abandoned on the floor, crumpled and forgotten like it never mattered. Like I never mattered. His words wouldn’t leave me. They pierced through every step I took down that endless hallway.Get the fuck out of my room, Mirabella. Not wife. Not kitten. Not even my name softened by his accent the way he sometimes let it roll. No, he spit out like venom, sharp enough to slice through my chest. His room. His house. Everything was his. The bed. The vows. Even the air in my lungs felt borrowed. The house was too quiet. Not the kind of quiet that soothes, but the suffocating kind, where every sound is magnified. My bare feet padded against the marble floors, and for a moment I thought I might collapse right there in the hall

CHAPTER 43- Giovanni’s POV The night lingered in fragments across my mind, jagged pieces of memory that refused to settle. The vows. The weight of her trembling hand when it slid into mine before God and everyone who mattered. And the kiss. Dio, the kiss. She had leaned into it because she had no choice, but for one single second, one heartbeat—her mouth softened. Enough for the entire room to believe we were carved from the same stone, husband and wife as the Mafia demanded. The crowd had roared, their applause a veil over the truth only I carried. Because beneath the beauty of her promise, I still heard the echo of a different vow she had made to me, voice steady, eyes cold. ‘You’ll never have my heart, Giovanni.’That, too, was a vow. One she thought would shield her.I drank deep from my glass, the whiskey warming but unable to burn out the hunger she stirred in me. I wanted her gown pooled on the floor, her mouth raw from my kiss, her body learning the rhythm of belong

CHAPTER 42-Mirabella’s POV The silence pressed against me, the kind that weighs like a blanket. I could still hear the faint hum of activity on the other side of the door—muffled voices, hurried steps in the hallway, the clink of glasses. But here, in this bridal suite, it was just me. The mirrors, the lace, the scent of white roses that felt both suffocating and intoxicating.I stared at myself. The gown was everything Chastity insisted on—long, fitted, its bodice jeweled with pearls that shimmered even when I breathed. The veil lay behind me, untouched, waiting for the moment. My hair swept up, my lips painted the softest shade of rose. Perfect. Almost too perfect. My hands trembled against the silk. I curled them into fists. Not because I didn’t want this—that wasn’t the truth I was running from. It was because I knew what it meant to be standing here, dressed as Giovanni’s bride. He didn’t love the way ordinary men did. Giovanni Moretti consumed. Everything he touc

CHAPTER 41- Giovanni’s POV It was a little past 1 a.m. and I heard pacing outside my office. From the lightness and caution in the steps, I knew it was Mirabella. Why the fuck was she still awake. My men were trained to move like ghosts, but she was no soldier, she was restless.“We’re gonna have a problem if you keep lurking around my office like that,” I said, loud enough for her to hear me. Her pacing stopped instantly, and then the soft click of the door filled the silence as she entered.“Hi,” she said, as she slowly walked in. She wore red silk pyjamas. My cock hardened painfully as my eyes roamed the length of her body. She looked like a damn seductress. This woman didn’t even have to do much to get me wound up tight. Like she was created for the sole purpose of testing my control.I grunted in response. Words were dangerous right now. I didn’t trust my mouth not to say something that would send her running for the hills. I needed her name on that contract more than

CHAPTER 40- Mirabella’s POV Chastity came into the guestroom with her usual grace, balancing a silver tray with a porcelain teapot and two cups. I hadn’t expected her, but the scent of chamomile drifted through the air before she even set it down. Giovanni hadn’t stepped out of the study since he and his minions walked in. “Giovanni asked that you spend the night here,” she said softly, her eyes kind, her tone leaving no room for argument. “He doesn’t want you going back this late. And frankly, neither do I.”The way she said it, like it wasn’t just about orders but about caring, made something tug inside me. She adjusted the pillow behind me before sitting on the edge of the bed, close enough that I could feel the warmth of her presence.“You don’t need to be so strong all the time, cara,” she murmured, brushing a strand of hair from my face like a mother might. No one had touched me like that in years. My mother hadn’t been that kind of woman, she loved me but papa dict

Chapter 39 — Giovanni’s POV Carlos had never been on time for anything in his life. If Lorenzo was late, it was only because Carlos had dragged him into some shit. Sure enough, the front doors opened.Carlos came in first, his stride loose, a wide grin plastered across his face like he hadn’t a care in the world. He slapped my shoulder as he passed, then leaned a little too close to Mirabella with that shameless gleam in his eye.“Bella,” he greeted, voice smooth, deliberately playful. She rolled her eyes, lips tugging at the faintest smirk. She was comfortable around him. She knew how to handle Carlos. He fed on pushback, and she gave it to him without hesitation. That familiarity sat easy between them.Lorenzo entered behind him, the opposite in every way. Quiet. Unshakable. His presence filled the space without him saying a damn thing. His gaze met Mirabella’s. It was assessing. She stiffened under it, though only slightly. I knew Lorenzo still had doubts about the mar
