Sunday Afternoon at Paige Estate

The black SUV rode up the Paige estate's long driveway in Montecito—gleaming gates swinging open to manicured grass and a colonial mansion rising tall beneath California sun.

Valeria had not made a sound for the past five minutes.

In the front passenger seat, she folded her hands together, nervously twirling the edge of her engagement ring as the vehicle slowed to a gentle halt.

Kc leaned across, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. “Breathe, baby.”

“I’m breathing,” she muttered. “Barely.”

“They’re going to love you,” he said firmly.

“You don’t know that.”

“I do,” Kc insisted, tilting her chin gently to face him. “Because you’re you. And because I’m not giving them a choice.”

Valeria managed a faint smile. “What if they still see me as. the woman from the headlines?”

Kc’s voice dropped to a whisper. “Then I’ll remind them you’re also the woman I’m going to marry.”

She looked down at her ring. “No pressure or anything.”

Late morning sunlight filtered through the high windows of the Page family house, gold and pale as it swept across the marble floors. Birds sang faintly outdoors, their songs interweaving with the stillness of the house. The sun-flooded kitchen, Valeria was in bare feet in one of Kc's button-down tops, a steaming cup of chamomile tea held delicately in her hands. Her eyes wandered over the country-chic bookshelves and the scent of buttery croissants and freshly brewed coffee made it somehow feel like home—despite being her first evening there.Kc entered, hair tousled, grey sweatpants and satisfied expression."Still not used to seeing you in the morning," he whispered, drawing near to her and kissing her cheek."I could get used to mornings like this one," Valeria said, sipping tea. "Maybe even too used to them."Before Kc could respond, the door to the kitchen opened and in came Elaine Page, Kc’s elegant and composed mother, followed by Francis Page, his father—distinguished, stern,

Kc turned his head, staring at her in the fading light. "I did. Fairy stories finish at 'happily ever after.' They don't teach you the early mornings. The grief. The disgrace. The reconstruction. We've seen the worst of ourselves… and still chose to remain."Valeria stood frozen for a moment, her fingers wrapping around the edge of her engagement ring."I never thought I'd be loved like this," she panted. "Not after everything."He encircled his hand around her wrist, leaving a kiss on the knuckles. "I didn't think I could love like this. Not after Vanessa. But you didn't supplant her. You showed me that there was space in my heart. You opened a door I thought was welded shut."She blinked fast, holding the sting back in her eyes. "I still carry her with me, you know. And your child. I think of them every day.""I know." He watched the city go by, blurring through the window. "And I think that's why this is important. Because we aren't replacing the past. We're respecting it. By creat

The sun climbed high over Los Angeles, reflecting off the glass windows of the skyscraper perched on top of a Beverly Grove hill. Inside, the atmosphere hummed—a gentle hum of expectation not for scandal, nor for controversy, but for something else.A romance simmered once more. The guests of The Velvet Room, that brash up-close celebrity interview program, had been assured of a show. Nobody—not even host Marla Nix—knew what they were getting when what came through the studio doors that morning.Valeria Jayne. In flowing silk ivory. Effortless. Timeless. And beside her—Kc Page. Lawyer. Billionaire. Tabloid enigma. So calm and composed, his hand in hers as if it belonged there for all eternity."Are we really doing this?" Valeria panted to herself as she was ushered into the lights and cameras.Kc bent in close, kissing her temple. "You don't have to say anything you don't feel like."She smiled at him, a small smug smile. "I want to say everything."Marla Nix fiddled with her notes as

The Malibu cliffs home had never appeared more lovely. Fairy lights twinkled beneath olive trees, golden lanterns danced in the wind, and the sea in the background reflected the starlight. Music, laughter, and the aroma of roses wafted through the air.It was the evening Kc and Valeria would make forever's vow.Valeria stood in front of the mirror, the dress shimmering in champagne hues. The off-the-shoulder silk clung to her body, the stitched constellations etched across her skin. Her hair cascaded in waves down her back, pinned with dainty pearls.Manager Kim poked his head into the dressing room. "Ready, superstar?"She twirled around, her stomach twisting up in nerves. "Do I seem like a girl who's just got engaged?"Kim smiled. "You're the woman who was in the news two hours ago because KC Page asked her to marry him in the middle of a private vineyard with an engagement ring worth a skyscraper."Valeria laughed and swiped a finger over her eye. "I just… I still can't even believ

A couple of days since the time in the empty room—their future spoken into bare walls and light. Everything since then had sagged into a slow beat. Mornings entwined in each other's arms, soft laughter over coffee cups, small kisses between meetings, and the sort of calm neither of them had ever believed they'd know.Today was different.Today, Kc Page had a plan.He leaned in his office balcony, phone pressed against his ear, eyes cast over the sky as if it held the secrets. Ocean wind crept in quietly from the west, but otherwise, his pulse was unrested."Is the arch in place?" he asked, voice sharpened. The event coordinator on the other end replied, “Yes, sir. The florists arrived an hour ago. We’re finishing the final touches now. The candles are in place, and the musicians will begin setup by four.”Kc exhaled slowly. “Good. And the lighting?”“Soft gold tones, just as requested. As the sun sets, everything will glow.”"Good," Kc said, giving himself a tiny, self-satisfied smile
