After Demarco walked out of the restaurant, I sat alone at the table for a long time. The warning he had given me was clear enough, but the way he had spoken only confirmed what I already suspected.

Someone had his attention in a way I never had, and he was willing to shut me down hard to protect that person. I paid for the untouched meal and left with my mind already working.
