"Gwen," the queen said, her voice stern. "Why have you not been singing my daughter's praises to Derrick? You know he has a high regard for you, and I expected you to put in a good word for Amelia." I shifted uncomfortably, my gaze fixed on the floor. "Your Majesty, I..." I began, but the queen cut me off. "Spare me your excuses, Gwen. I know you are loyal to my son, but my daughter has been nothing but kind and gracious to you. The least you could do is return the favor." I swallowed hard, the weight of her words sank in, we both knew that was not true. She was quick to rephrase her statement. “Amelia may have been far from kind, but she's changed now.”
