CHAPTER 6

I stared at Gwen from where I stood at the transition festival. She was breathtaking. All the other male wolves had their eyes on her. Probably hoping to land her as their mate. I badly wanted to rip them to shreds. She was mine.

She was captivating. Too bad she was an omega wolf.

My feelings for her grew stronger each day, but she was someone everyone in the pack avoided like the plague. She was nothing like a werewolf, one of the weakest in the kingdom. I was an alpha; we would never be together, no matter how badly I wanted to have her.

My pack needed an alpha heir; they won't have me mix with an omega heir. He had led the pack all these years. I was going to be the new alpha soon. Maybe then I will defy all rules and make her mine. I don't care about anyone's opinion. I liked her. Her olive-gold skin was radiant, her eyes were pretty, and her lips were tempting. I had imagined myself in between her thighs, not once, not twice.

She didn't shift like the rest when the first full moon shone. The newly transformed wolves howled loudly into the night. Everyone laughed at her. She looked so scared and ashamed.

There were no signs she was possibly my mate, but it became clear during the transition. I had picked up her scent from the crowd. I found it hard to believe the pathetic wolf who couldn't transform at the transition ball could be my mate. Brushing past her, I left like she was some piece of rag. She was the most beautiful girl I had ever laid eyes on, but I just couldn't accept it. There was no way I'd ever love an omega who couldn't shift.

My feelings for her died in an instant. So I thought.

The first day I set my eyes on Gwen, she was trying to pick some apples from the orchard. Her arms were too short to reach it. In frustration, she launched her shoe on the tree, and it finally struck an apple. I was amused. I sent her a basket of apples later on, but she never found out it was from me.

I had picked up her scent; she was my mate. But I knew I couldn't be with her; she was an omega wolf, and I was an alpha, a primordial wolf. I didn't mark her. My mate had to be an alpha, but I had no interest in anyone but Gwen.

My pack had the strongest wolves to ever exist. We were immortals. We could pick up the sounds of people we form connections with from miles away. We could read minds, we could teleport, and we could turn invisible as well. I could read everyone else's thoughts but Gwen's. It pissed me off at times. I badly wanted to know how she feels about me and if she desired me like I did.

Though I hadn't marked my mate yet, I wasn't going to heat up till ten years from now. So I believed. But it was going to be so severe and painful that it always dashed off with an ability in most cases. Gwen was likely not the mate the moon goddess had chosen for me. The moon goddess wouldn't put me in a sticky situation like this one. So I thought.

On the night of the transition ball, I felt a spark of light in my brain when I saw Gwen; she was breathtaking. My eyes focused in her direction to make sure no male came close to her.

I had followed her when she left the ballroom. I burned with jealousy when I saw her with a young man outside. I went back in.

When she fell on her face and ran out of the ball crying, I acted like I didn't care. I was still mad.

After the ball, I felt a sharp, searing pain in my chest, so I went out to get some air. I was burning up. It couldn't be true; I still had seven more years to claim my mate. I couldn't heat up now. I was confused. My claws snapped out, and I was soon covered in fur, growling and snarling. It was impossible; I could control when I shifted.

Just then, I heard her voice; it came in a soft whisper. "Derrick." She said.

She had summoned me. I lost every ounce of control I had left. I was heating up inside.

In no time, I was in the white raven castle. I wasn't thinking straight; my mind was foggy. I noticed a figure peering through her window. I took a closer look; it was another wolf. He belonged to a lower pack; I could tell by the color of his eyes. I growled, and he immediately recognized who I was. He had lost his balance and scampered off to safety.

I hung around till she fell asleep. I also wanted to make sure he didn't return.

I wished to leave, but the heat became unbearable, and her scent became stronger. "Derrick". She called my name in her head again. It was the only time I could read her mind.

I lost every restraint I had left and climbed up to her window and into her room. I was back to my normal form.

There she was, spread out on her bed, sleeping. Her neck was exposed in the light satin night dress, and I could see all the cynosures of her tempting body. I knew I had to leave; she was asleep, and I didn't want to touch her. I could endure the heat the entire night; it wasn't going to harm me yet. I turned to the window and made to leave when she whispered my name again.

"Derrick." She moaned softly. This time, it wasn't in my head. I went closer to her bedside; her eyes were partly open, and she held my hand.

I felt the weakest I've ever been; my head was burned; it was unbearable. "I want you." She whispered.

I couldn't think straight anymore. I brushed her soft, attractive lips with my fingers and locked them in mine. She responded hungrily to my kisses, and I was on her in no time. I pinned her down under my body. She moaned softly as I kissed her neck. Her moans made me lose control of myself. I had yanked off her red satin night dress; it was a major obstruction. I wanted nothing to block my access to her body. She cried as I feasted on her sensitive parts with my tongue. She was a panting mess already.

Soon, I got between her thighs, and she cried in pain. I realized she was a virgin. I felt guilty; all I had been feeling was quenched. Getting up from her, I got into my clothes and left.
