Chapter 30

Author: Ninth Cup
Winter had already asked someone to look into it. The house had been bought by Chris before they got married.

That meant it was not considered marital property. Legally, she had no claim to it in a divorce settlement.

So if she wanted that house back, she would have to use the divorce itself as leverage and negotiate for it.

Winter left Blackwood Manor and got into her car.

She didn’t know where Chris had gone on his business trip, or how large the time difference was between there and home.

Winter clenched her teeth and snapped, “You’re despicable!”“Despicable?” The image of her bloodied palm in the car flashed through Chris’s mind. She had looked at him with cold eyes, refusing to let him touch her even if it killed her. And yet when they got to the hospital, she had been begging for a man.His voice was cool, but his anger was unmistakable.“You were the one who broke the deal first.”The deal?“It was never a fair deal to begin with. Why should I honor it?”She still hadn’t fully regained her strength. Just raising her voice made her breathless.“Before, I thought we were still legally married, and as long as that relationship hadn’t been dissolved, I had no way to get free of you. But the truth is, you lied to me for three years.“A deal? In what capacity, and with what right, do you get to restrict my freedom?“You’re a liar, and you still want to talk to me about a deal? What gives you the right?”Chris replied in a measured voice, heavy with implication

The moment she saw Winter sitting up in the hospital bed, Sasha’s brows drew together. She hurried to the bedside, put a hand on Winter’s shoulder, and started trembling with anger.“You’ve suffered so much.“I truly had no idea Steve would do something so monstrous to you. Winnie, I’m sorry. This is my fault. I failed to raise him right.”Winter could feel Sasha’s fingers shaking without stop. She reached out and held her hand in return.“Aunt Sasha, this has nothing to do with you.”“Did he... did he do anything to you?” Sasha asked, heartbroken, as she gently touched Winter’s face.Winter shook her head. She vaguely remembered Steve’s hot breath against her face. His lips had almost touched hers. If Roy hadn’t arrived in time, there was no telling what Steve might have done to her.Everything that happened after that was still blurry, but she knew she had been rescued. She just hadn’t expected Chris to intercept them, and things had almost gone too far between them. She pul

After speaking, Zion seemed to remember something. In the end, he decided to tell Winter anyway.“G didn’t leave you behind on purpose. He ran into Chris’s people and got hurt. You know Gavin, the big guy by Chris’s side. His fighting ability is terrifying.”Every time Zion had gone up against Gavin before, he had been pinned down in fewer than ten moves. Because of that, he had never really known Gavin’s true level. But last time, on the cruise ship, Gavin had saved him. That was when Zion realized he really was the real deal.Winter’s eyes paused.Roy was hurt?Had she been wrong?“Is it bad?” she asked, her voice tense. Roy had gotten hurt because of her, after all. And just moments earlier, she had even suspected he might be one of Chris’s people.Gavin had the kind of cold, sharply handsome face that could make plenty of girls lose their heads, but his fighting skills really were frighteningly strong.Back when she was learning combat from Roy, she had quietly compared Ro

Winter froze for a second, not understanding what he meant.William reached out and felt her forehead. Her temperature was back to normal. Then he said, “When you were brought to the hospital, you were just starting to regain some awareness, but the drug was also hitting you the hardest. They were about to wheel you in for a stomach pump, and you kept asking the doctor to find you a man. I was this close to covering your mouth myself.”Winter had been out of her mind. Of course she wouldn’t remember any of that. But she did remember hearing Chris tell the driver to take her to the hospital just before she lost consciousness in the car.“Was it Chris who brought me here?” Her voice came out dry and hoarse. If nothing unexpected had happened, Chris should have been in detention right now.Back in the car, all she could think about was not letting Chris touch her. She had been so focused on staying conscious and fighting the drug that she had completely forgotten his situation.“No

Sweat had soaked the hair at Winter’s temples. Her lips were swollen, and the torn neckline of her gown hung loose, barely covering the marks left on her skin. But with one cold sentence, and with the sticky blood on her palm, the charged atmosphere inside the car shattered completely.“What did you do?” Chris demanded sharply. The lust in his eyes vanished into the darkness of his gaze in an instant. Only the faint redness at the corners of his eyes remained, revealing how close to losing control he had been moments earlier. The smell of blood kept growing stronger in the sealed car, grinding against the nerves like something relentless and inescapable.Chris grabbed her bleeding hand and saw that her other hand was clutching a bloodstained Swiss Army knife. His eyes tightened sharply. She had used that to keep herself awake. She would rather hurt herself than let him touch her.The last trace of desire in Chris’s eyes was burned away by a surge of fury, leaving behind nothi

“Wait a little longer,” Roy said, his low voice rough with strain.By then, Winter had lost all sense of reason. She couldn’t hear what he was saying. She didn’t know where she was, and she couldn’t recognize the man in front of her.All she knew was that she desperately wanted the agony inside her to stop. It felt as if a fire were burning through her body, and she needed something, anything, to put it out.She only wanted relief. The violent effects tearing through her made her desperate for some way to escape them. Her fingers clutched at Roy’s cool jacket, but that only seemed to make the torment worse. She leaned over the back of the driver's seat, her feverish fingertips sliding past his collar, searching for skin. Suddenly, a large hand caught hers through the fabric of his clothes and held it tight. That hand was trembling. The force of his restraint was so intense it felt as if he were barely holding himself together. When her hand was stopped, the unbearable wave ins
