Jennet sat alone at the dining table with a cup of instant spicy noodles. She had been eating instant foods ever since she made up her mind to buy a house. As she instilled the unhealthy habit, it became a routine as time went by. It is hard to part from it now. Sometimes, she craved the taste of a proper homecooked meal. However, since she did not usually cook, she abandoned the thought.
The same tall figure sat beside her with both hands cupping his cheeks on the table. He smiled as he watched her finishing the cup noodle. When she accidentally scalded her tongue, a scowl appeared on his handsome face and he glared at the cup, badgering the static thing for an answer.
‘How dare you hurt my wife’s delicate tongue!’ he cursed at the cup noodle who was probably speechless for the blame if it was a living being.
The blond shifted his adoring glance towards Jennet who took a cautious feed from the piping hot cup. Her cheeks reddened as she slurped on the noodles, braving the maddening heat to feed her empty belly.
He drew a hand and put it on her warm cheek, ‘Let me ease the discomfort for you.’ He smiled as he projected cooling force through their skins.
The coldness caused her teeth to ache as if she chewed cubes of ice. She leant back with a heavy gasp and the fork slipped through her fingers. She immediately touched her face where the numbness lingered and found her cheeks were as cold as ice.
Suddenly both of her cheeks went cold and the same thing happened; her teeth ached!
“Gosh!” she clamoured in alarm while cupping both cheeks. Her heart accelerated when the temperature in the kitchen went down tremendously.
She was still not aware of the presence in front of her who leant forward with both of his hands on her cheeks. His jade-blue eyes stared deeply into her brown eyes as he, delightfully, observed her confused face.
He shifted his gaze towards her lips that was redder than usual. Without removing his hands, he lowered his head and brushed his cold lips against her warm lips, kissing her.
Jennet gasped when waves of piercing coldness hit her lips continuously. It was weirder that she could smell a faint fragrance right in front of her nose. She had never smelt such a sweet fragrance before and it was different from the smell of her fruity shower gel.
She stood up, covered her lips and looked around the kitchen with a palpitating heart. Somehow she remembered something that older folks used to tell her when she was a child; if you smell faint fragrance whilst being alone, it means, you are not alone at all.
As shivers crept on her, she took the half-empty noodle cup along with the fork and fled to the living room. From the living room, she glanced back at the kitchen.
It took her a while to finally be convinced that there was nothing unusual in the kitchen despite the change of the temperature. After calming down, she sat down on the sofa and ate the half-finished spicy noodles.
The blond chuckled when she fled him. He squatted in front of her. “Do not worry, honey. Nothing scary will come in your way for as long as I am here.” He whispered.
Jennet hurriedly finished the noodle and as she rose from the sofa, she stretched her neck towards the kitchen and gulped. ‘The kitchen seemed safe…’ she thought.
She tiptoed to the kitchen and tossed the empty cup into the bin. Then, she ran up the stairs as the coldness came creeping up her spine.
‘I need a hot bath!’ she thought and immediately undressed as soon as she entered the bedroom. She was only in her dark-blue brassiere and panty by the time the blond arrived. His eyes widened in envy at the free show that laid before him.
He was on the brink to pounce on her when she suddenly turned around and he froze just before their faces could clash against each other.
Her brows knitted. ‘Why do I feel as if someone with a dirty mind is staring at me?’ she thought.
She looked around once again. The room was empty and she was the only one in it. She shook her head. ‘No, I am alone!’
She hurriedly grabbed a towel and wrapped it around her body tightly!
She entered the bathroom along with her dirty laundry and left it to the washing machine to do its job. Then, she wrapped her naked body with the bath towel and went under the shower.
Once again, she stopped just as she was about to turn on the shower. She glanced around, uncomfortable. At last, she took off the towel, hung it on the hook and stepped under the shower; as warm water rained down her tired body. She closed her eyes to enjoy the warmness as it washed away the worries about the insane day she had.
Hot steam filled the shower area and the glasses were left foggy. In the shower room, a tall figure was standing behind the woman who was oblivious of his existence.
After a few minutes, Jennet opened her eyes to grab the shower gel. However, she gasped when she saw a well-written name on the surface of the fogged glass.
She frowned as she turned off the showerhead. ‘Weird…was it there this whole time?’
She took a closer look at the fogged glass, reading the name written on it. "Hue... Hedo?" she said the name.As soon as she said the name, the man smiled widely. Warmth surged throughout his body as it slowly took on a solid form and he could feel the wetness of the water on his skin.
He leant forward from behind her. "Thank you..." he whispered in her ear.
At the same time, a gust of cold wind brushed past and fluttered her wet hair in mid-air. She froze at the sudden abnormality and crossed her hands over her exposed chests. Her body trembled when a pair of cold arms appeared out of nowhere and wrapped her slender waist from behind.
From the dimmed reflection on the glass, she could vaguely see someone with long hair and a muscular body; smiling at her. Her face turned as white as the white sheet. Is that the female ghost she saw last night?
However, she could not see the face to find out. She was too scared to move her head to take a look. So, she stood rooted and stared at the glass as her heart continued to pound loudly.
The long-haired man tilted his head to the side as he aimed to kiss the nape of her wet neck. His high nose brushed against her jawline as he chuckled naughtily.
"I have been waiting for you to say my name..." he said softly. He lowered his head and had his lips on her neck, giving it a light kiss.
Jennet shivered badly after hearing his sexy husky voice. The female ghost was a male ghost?
But, she could not pry her eyes away as she stared at the reflection in the glass; engraving his beautiful appearance in her mind.
"Hu... Hue..." her lips trembled as she muttered the name. Her heart pounded madly. She tried to move but was powerless.
"Yes..." the blond spoke softly in her ear and kissed her neck lightly while inhaling her scent.
Jennet could not contain the fear anymore and her eyes rolled upward. She collapsed to the floor; losing consciousness.
"I am Jennet Lockhart!" claimed the silver-haired woman. Delton furrowed his brows. He had no idea a foreign woman had the gall to make such a claim. He had just returned from the palace and heard of something bizarre from the emperor who was reluctant to divulge the truth. His mood deteriorated after the meeting."Can you prove your claim?" he asked coldly."My ring!" she said loudly. "Hue gave me a ring as proof!"Delton glanced at her finger. There was no ring."I'm sorry, but I don't think you can play around with such a claim," he said. "Lying will add more bad deeds into your account.""I'm not lying," she slapped the bed. "I am Jennet Lockhart. Get my husband here to verify this claim!"Delton exhaled. "I'm sorry but it's improper to call upon him to verify your claim. Have you looked at yourself in the mirror?"How could she claim she was Jennet Lockhart when her appearance differed greatly from hers? This woman must be desperate to get away from her punishment. The woman we
'Apologies for not helping much...' added the spirit.Delton sighed. "Never mind."He turned around and gestured at the reapers to leave the place....After visiting the nursery, Jennet asked to go out for a date.Hue smiled. "I love that idea. Where do you want to go? The gardens?"He was about to get bored and she proposed such an amazing idea to kill time. He was grateful that they clicked.Jennet smiled. "Is that a great place for a meaningful date? We have not gone on a proper date before. I want it to be a proper full-day date!"Hue responded after pondering, "I guess going to the garden is great. Unless you have a place in mind.""I do have one in mind," she said. She gave him a side glance and then smiled widely, "Can we go to the market again? Just the two of us."Hue's face dropped. "The market? Again?" Disappointment was clear in his voice.Jennet leaned closer. "Please, honey. This one time, please..."Hue scratched the back of his ear, contemplating. "Uh, can we go to a
Many hours ago...After spending some time gazing at Hue's sleeping face, Jennet went to the kitchen for a drink. As she quenched her thirst, a gust of wind blew hard, knocking on the back door to the yard. She glanced as she placed the glass on the counter."That's a strong wind..." she murmured and approached to close the ajar door.'West gate...'She froze. She furtively eyed the vicinity. Her heart skipped a beat and goosebumps crawled her skin.Although terrified, she stepped out slightly and looked around; just to ease her feeling. The backyard was mantled in darkness with the twin moon hiding behind thick black clouds.Thud, thud, thud, thud...Jennet flinched and looked up. The sound of footsteps came from upstairs and, strangely, she felt it wasn't her family members. She hurried inside, locked the door, and rushed upstairs. But, the hallway was empty. However, the door to their bedroom was slightly ajar with the lights dimly lit.Jennet furrowed. 'I remember switching on all
Hue and Jennet were downstairs when they heard loud bangs coming from upstairs.“What is that?” Jennet glanced in alarmed, half-jumping from her seat. Hue rose from his chair and assured her to sit comfortably. “I’ll go and check,” he said.“Be careful, honey.” Jennet sat down, hoping nothing bad would happen.Hue went upstairs and realised the loud bangs had come from their bedroom. He grabbed a hanger from the laundry basket near the stairs. In his grasp, the hanger morphed into a sabre.“Gomi?” he called.‘Yes, master?’ replied a voice in his head.‘Do you sense something off?’‘Apart from the spirit is ill, nothing else.’Then, Gomi’s presence vanished from his mind. Hue didn’t think much of it because he was sure Gomi and the rest of their familiars were unhappy after the twins placed them under restrained orders. In Fantasy Realm, restraining orders were considered a major distrust of the master towards the familiars. But, if the familiars were innocent, they could refuse to s
Hue woke up when something buttery and toasty hit his nose. He unfurled his eyes and saw the Smell Folk dancing in mid-air. Their dance was very graceful and beautiful, unlike usual. It seemed as if they were celebrating something that was long forgotten. He sat on the sofa and tied his long hair into a low ponytail. Yawning, he placed the bolster on the sofa bed and approached the kitchen.Standing at the entrance, he eyed his wife, whose back faced him. She was donned in the pink apron he uses when working in the kitchen. She was placing sunny-side-up eggs on a plate."Honey, I thought I would be making breakfast today," he said.Jennet turned around and smiled brightly. "I was up too early today. So, I thought of making breakfast for us since you always made it.""Why didn't you just wake me up?" he asked."You were sound asleep, and I don't want to rouse you from your peaceful sleep."Hue scratched his head and covered his mouth to yawn. "Is this your roundabout way of asking forgi
The turtle inhaled deeply. He broke into a smile. "Yes, of course, because some of the stuff I sell needs the good deed.""Oh..." Jennet nodded her head. She was confused but she had nothing to ask because she had no idea what to ask. The more she delves into the sensitive case, the more she gets confused about everything around them. After the conversation, Jennet and the twins took their time to see all of the stuff on display. The vast majority of the items were human's everyday stuff and were broken. For example, the quills without nibs, shoes without soles, cups without handles, bows without strings and the list just went on.Jennet came across a hilt, the only one among thousands of items on display. She felt a strange sense of Deja Vu as if she had seen it before."That one is notorious and dangerously powerful, but had a sad story..." The turtle gave an intro.Jennet glanced and asked, "What happened to it?" She was interested. The turtle inhaled deeply. "He was once a powerf
