Kimberly brought out a pan of freshly baked muffins from the oven, and carried it to the display glass where she was arranging the hot pastries when the door opened.

She turned to their new customer and said.

“Welcome to Angel’s bakery. How may I help you?”

“I’ll like a cake.”

“What’s the occasion?”

Kimberly inquired.

“My daughter’s seventh year birthday.”

“That’s nice. We have some freshly baked cakes of different sizes and shapes in our catalogs. Please come with me.”

She said while leading the slightly overweight woman in her late thirties to the cake section.

After browsing for a while, the woman picked a medium sized naked cake in the shape of a heart, which Kimberly carried to the dressing table.

“What color of frosting should I use?”

She asked the customer.

“White. With pink writings”

“Alright.”

She immediately set to work, moving the icing can with dexterity as she beautifully coated the cake. Twenty minutes later, she was done, with it.

Yellow star candy was sprinkled on it, while ‘Happy Birthday Emily’ was written on its centre in pink.

“Please make your way to the cashier over there while I package it ma’am.”

She said while pointing to her coworker over the counter.

The woman returned shortly with her receipt and picked up the cake in a paper box with the bakery’s logo on it.

“Have a nice day.”

She called out to her as she made her way out of the day.

“You too.”

She replied with a smile.

Kimberly looked at the clock on the wall and saw it was 12:05. She removed her gloves and went into the manager’s office which was opened.

“Hello sir.”

“Hi Kimberly.”

“I’m leaving for the vet clinic. My dog is sick, but I was able to get an appointment for 12:45pm. I sent you a text last night that I would be leaving by twelve today.”

“Yeah I got your text. No problem, the others will cover for you. We don’t have a busy day.”

“Thanks.”

She said as she left his office into the changing room where she removed her hair net, apron, face mask and the bakery’s T-shirt with name tag attached to it.

She changed into her blouse and carried her hand bag as she strolled out of the bakery into the hot Atlanta’s sun.

Kimberly raced up the stairs of the dilapidating three story building, with a large suitcase in her hand. From afar, it looked like it contained a  saxophone or any other similar instrument, but what was in it was far different.

She got to the top floor, packed her brunette hair into a tight pony tail and opened the suitcase. She removed a baseball cap from it and forced it on her head which was a tight fit. Next, she brought out a pair of black leather gloves and hurriedly wore it as she checked her digital watch.                    The time was 1:11pm, which meant that she had four more minutes to execute her mission.

She removed the last thing in the suitcase which was a sniper gun, as she maneuvered the long weapon towards the window and looked through the scope at a high class restaurant about four hundred metres across the road.

There was very light traffic by this time of the day in the city of Atlanta, which made the job easier for her.

She stared down the rifle for several seconds as a couple cars passed by, briefly obstructing her view from the restaurant’s entrance.

The time was now 1:14pm and she could make out some movement at the glass door which opened as two huge Japanese men in black suits walked out, followed by another of average height behind them.

She moved her sniper slowly to the right as the men made their way across the parking lot to their black sedan. Looking through the scope of the magnified glass attached to her weapon, she held her breath as the chest of one of  her target’s bodyguards appeared on the crisscross mark, which was immediately followed by the bald head of the yakuza boss.

She moved the gun slightly once more to the right while maintaining the crisscross mark on his head before she squeezed the trigger. A second passed before the man dropped like a log, which prompted his men to instinctively draw out pistols from their inner jackets as they scanned the area for where the bullet came from.

Kimberly immediately returned the gun and leather gloves into her suitcase before making her way out of the building through the emergency exit at the back.

Kimberly entered her four story apartment building and made her way through the elevator to the top floor. She walked across the passage that had three doors on both sides till she got to the last door on the left were she stopped to produce a key from the back pocket of her Jean pants, opened the door and entered her two bedroom apartment.

She was immediately welcomed by Rex, her three months old Rottweiler who wagged its tail excitedly as he followed her into the masters bedroom.

She sat on her bed, kicked of her sneakers and stared at the picture of herself in combat fatigues on the blue wall. It seems like ages ago when she was in the marines, when it had actually just been seven months only.

She was interrupted from her thoughts by a chime from her phone. She removed the phone from the drawer beside her bed, typed a six digit password, and saw an alert of ten thousand dollars worth of bitcoin sent into her crypto account. Her boss had gotten news of her job well done and had paid her promptly as usual.

This was the second job she would be doing for the Italian mafia. The first was a month ago when she took out the head of the Mexican cartel in the city.

She had no problem killing these people as they were not innocent men either. In her own way, she felt she was making the city safer by eradicating these criminal elements.

She got up from the bed, removed her clothes and walked into the bathroom where she took a long shower. Few minutes later, she was applying light makeup in front of her dresser mirror beside her bed. She took another look at the mirror and admired herself for the upteeth time.           Her blue eyes were accentuated by the eyeliner she had applied. Her high cheek bones were also well defined which gave her quite a strong facial feature. She was quite beautiful and she knew it.

Today was one of those days she decided to unwind. She called Mike her Uber driver, placed more food in Rex’s bowl, then wore a fitted red gown that matched the color of her lipstick. She then picked up her purse and turned off the lights before leaving the room.

!     !      !     !     !      !      !      !      !        !         !

She found her ride already parked on a corner beside her apartment building block. She walked gingerly on her six inch high heel towards the grey Toyota Camry, opened the door and entered the vehicle.

Mike lowered his sunglasses and stared at her from the rear mirror.

“Someone’s looking extra hot this evening.”

“Shut your big ass mouth and drive.”

“Ok ma’am.”

He replied mockingly.

“Where to?”

He asked.

“My usual.”

She replied as the car sped off into the traffic.

Bryan and Jamal were waiting in their car, which was parked on the driveway of a semi detached duplex, when Bryan spoke, while reading from his phone.“The police report just came in. The place is registered to a Marco Silvester, who has a long rap sheet.Assault, breaking and entering , armed robbery, racketeering, two DUIs and larceny.”“He definitely fits the profile of a gang member.”Jamal replied. The house, which was the address Pascal had given them was empty, but they descided to remain put since it was the only lead they had so far in their investigation. An hour had almost passed, when the home owner arrived in his car.“Hey. He’s here.””Bryan called out to his sleeping partner. The two agents came out of their vehicle and approached the huge man who looked like a bouncer.“Excuse me sir. Are you the home owner?”Bryan asked the man.“Yes I am. Is there any problem?”He asked.“We are from the Drug Enforcement Agency, and we need you to accompany us to our office for q

Kimberly entered the casino, and made her way to the cashier where she bought five hundred dollars worth of chips. She then made her way around the room, watching the different sections before finally settling for the easiest one she seemed to understand, which was dice. She had no interest in gambling that evening, rather she was here to check this place out, which was a front for the Russian drug cartel.Looking around, she saw three goons standing guard at different angles in the hexagon shaped room.“New game! Entry fee is two hundred dollars.”The commentator announced.Kimberly counted the equivalent amount worth of chips, and dropped it on the board, along side five other players. The rule of the game was simple. Each player was expected to roll two dice, while the player with the least outcome was eliminated from each round. The first player rolled a seven, followed by the second who rolled a four. Kimberly rolled next and got a nine, which meant she qualified for the next roun

Pascal, the taller man of the two drug dealers who was arrested had demanded for a lawyer.Bryan watched from behind the one-way mirror as Maggie and Justin entered the interrogation room, and sat together opposite the public defense lawyer and his client.“My client has substantial information that will help in dismantling the Italian mafia. What are you willing to offer him?”The lawyer asked.“We need to know how credible his information is before we make a deal.”Justin replied.“He will remain in your custody, while you verify the authenticity of his statement.”The lawyer said.“That’s reasonable.”Maggie replied.“But my client is asking for immediate release, an expungement of his past criminal record from the system, and the sum of five thousand dollars to help with his relocation from this city. That is after his information checks out.”The lawyer proposed.“These demands are excessive.”Jamal debated.“Then my client has nothing to say to you.”The lawyer countered.“We’

The members of the task force were seated in the conference room while Mr Ben addressed them.“I want to commend you all for a job well done yesterday. By putting a dent in the Blood gang, our office was able to make one of the biggest arrests in years, all thanks to you. After prosecuting the suspects, the city will be free of a considerable amount of illegal drugs. However, the Italian mafia are still at large. Without the bloods to operate in their territory, the Italian mafia will likely expand their operations, thereby making our efforts to be wasted. I assure you all that if you’re able to crack this case, you will be promoted. Do not relent. Continue chasing as many leads as possible. You will get a break in no time.”Mr Ben encouraged them, before he walked out of the room.“How are we to go about this? None of those we arrested were willing to talk when we interrogated them.”Justin said in dismay.“How about you ask your informant if they will be able to help us?”Maggie

Bryan shot his pistol three times, then pressed the button on the wall which drew his human cardboard target closer to where he was.“Not bad.”Kimberly shouted in the midst of the gunshots from other shooters, who we’re practicing in the shooting range. His target had a hole on the side of its head, on a shoulder and in the middle of its torso.“My turn.”She said after replacing the bullet ridden target with a new one, and pressing the button on the wall, which pushed it away till it got to forty meters away from where she stood. She took the pistol from Bryan, and took a deep breath, with legs apart and shoulders in an upright posture before firing thrice. Her target had a hole in the center of its head, neck and chest.“You’re really good.”Bryan complimented her.“Yeah I know. That’s why I picked this place for our second date.”Kimberly replied.“You’re weird and spontaneous. I like it.”He said, then he pecked her on the cheek.“Let’s go for another round.”She said.“You’re n

Standing behind the one-way mirror, Bryan watched as Maggie and Justin stood up from their seats in the interrogation room, and made for the door. They had been questioning Khalil for some minutes , but so far, the teenager had refused to talk.‘Snitches get stitches.’Was a code that was upheld by most gangs.“Hey. I guess you enjoyed the scene you just watched.”Justin said to Bryan in his usual manner.“I would have, if not for your ugly face in it.”Bryan quipped.“Well…. You saw the whole thing yourself. It’s like we’ve hit a wall.”Maggie said, with resignation in her voice.“On the bright side, he has not demanded for a lawyer yet.”Jamal pointed out.“I and my partner will going in now. Seat tight with your popcorn, and watch how it’s done.”Bryan bragged before leaving for the interrogation room.“Also get your notes, cos you’ll be needing it.”Jamal added before following Bryan.“Let’s use our Good cop/Bad cop method.”Jamal suggested, on their way to the interrogation roo

The agents who made up the new task force were assembled at Bryan’s office officially ,for the first time. They had been brainstorming for the past hour with little result, despite having pulled their resources together from their previous investigations on the Blood gang and Italian mafia respectively. His office had a few papers on the floor which had fallen from the numerous ones scattered across his desk. The evidence board on the wall was empty, as there was no substantial information to pin on it .“The gangs are constantly evolving. It’s much more difficult to apprehend these criminals because they are always finding new ways to evade us.”Justin complained.“Yeah. They’ve known most of the tricks in our books.”Maggie supported.“There will always be a loop hole somewhere.”Bryan opined.“So far there has been none.”Jamal pointed out the obvious.“Even though the Italian mafia and the Blood gang are rivals, I have this gut feeling that there is a connection between them.”B

Khalil and his childhood friend, Ayo were almost done breaking down the last brick of cocaine for the day when there was a knock at the door.“Yo! Reduce the volume.”Big Trey instructed.Khalil immediately went to the boom box speaker, and turned the control dial in an anti-clockwise direction. There was a knock again. Much louder this time.“Go see who’s there.”Big Trey said to Khalil who immediately went to the door, and peeped through the hole before he opened it and went outside, the door behind him.“What are you looking for?”He asked the woman standing in front of him.“I’m looking for Maureen. She texted me this place as her address.”“There’s no one bearing that name here.”“What about your neighbors?”“The landlord evicted everyone.”The woman looked at him suspiciously, then he added“My mum and I will be moving anytime from now.”“Okay. Thanks for your help.”She said as she made for the stairs.‘That was a close one.’Khalil thought. He entered the Crib and took a seco
