I didn’t know where to start as I stared at him then back at the moon in front of us.

The words were tangled like sharp thorns placed deep in my throat. They were sharp, scary and painful, and it felt as though they were catching on every breath I tried to take in and out.

Dante sat quietly beside me... he had been silent since we came back from the hunt. His presence, a calm weight. He didn’t rush me or ask questions as to what he had heard or why he had heard it, But...

But I had to say it. I had to let it out before it swallowed me whole and made me drift away from him.

I had always known I was not an omega. I never even felt like one, but everyone had seen me as an omega since my mother was one, and so I was branded as one. And with time, I became conversant with acting as one.

And now, I'm left with the question I was always afraid to ask my mum.

“I was never part of them,” I whispered, while my gaze fell to the dancing flames in the fireplace.
