Chapter Four

“This is Elaine, Alpha Jacob’s daughter.” He said with a warm smile. I stayed silent but deep down my heart was erupting the flames of sadness. “I am Freya, Alexander’s wife.” She said with a warm smile stretching out her hand for a handshake. I didn’t need the goddess help to know that she was sounding the alarm that he belongs to her. I forced a smile but I had no time to accept the handshake, her hands were suspended in the air. This may seem so rude, but at this point I didn’t care.

My father would always sing Alexander’s praises talking about how capable he was and how responsible he had become. He admired Alexander so much, after all he was the youngest Alpha; he had become an Alpha at a very young age and now his pack was blooming. I had no idea he had a wife, I raised my eyelids to look at him. If I had known, I wouldn’t have followed him all the way here. “Elaine, you can’t let yourself get distracted.” I muttered.

Freya took back her hands and hooked her hands around his arms, “She looks absent minded and disturbed.” She said worriedly, I couldn’t help but smirk at the tone of her voice. Alexander let out a depressive sigh, he turned to look at me and then at his wife. “It’s a very long story, she isn’t in the right state of mind at the moment.” I heard him say. Was he trying to explain the rude behavior I had just displayed? If he was trying to make it feel normal, then too bad, he can try forever.

I was already so exhausted from the travel, my whole body was aching me badly. “Alex, can you show me to my room? I am already so exhausted.” I said sounding impatient.

My eyes met Freya’s and I rolled them at her, I had barely spent five minutes and she was already making the whole place suffocating for me and uncomfortable. “I will show her to the guest room,” Freya volunteered.

“Thanks for your help but at this point, I don’t need it. Alex brought me here, so he would be responsible for me, you don’t have to stress yourself.” I said forcing out a smile. If she was trying to get on my good side, then too bad for her because, I had none.

The atmosphere became so quiet and tensed. The awkwardness made me cold, I frowned. “Are you taking me there or should I find my way?” I questioned. Alex silently walked into the mansion, leaving his darling wife behind. I followed suit, looking at it, it reminded me of my home, as he walked up the stairs leading the way, and I followed behind him. “This is the guest room,” he said coldly.

Looking at the tight frown on his face, I furrowed my brows in anger. If there was anyone who has the right to get angry, then I am the one. “Make yourself comfortable.” He said. “As if I had a choice,” I sneered.

I watched him as he turned his back and left the room. The room became so quiet, my room at home was ten times bigger and more beautiful than this, and then it dawned on me that I was all alone in this world-I had no body. Looking at the strange room, tears streamed down my face, I could no longer control my emotions. My legs felt so weak, I fell to the ground on my face, sobbing loudly. This was supposed to be the best day of my life but it happened to be the saddest. I recalled the look in my mom’s eyes, the fear in her eyes as death gripped her entirely existence. She wanted me to run and stay alive, how was I supposed to live my life now without her? How? All I had was the love and care from my parents, I have never lived a day without them. As an Alpha princess, all I knew was an easy life, the last smile I had of my father, his words flashed through my eyes. Reality was so cruel, I wish this was all a nightmare, I wish this was nothing but a dream and I hope to wake up very soon.

I felt a gush of pain breaking through my heart tearing my emotions into pieces. I ran towards the bed, placing my face on the soft mattress. I wouldn’t want anyone to know I was in such a state. I screamed out to my heart content letting all the pain and agony out. “I swear, when I get you, I would kill you.” I clenched my fist angrily.

Hearing the slight knock on the door, I was startled, I wasn’t expecting anyone, at least not now. Before I could say anything the door was opened and someone got into the room. I stayed put facing the bed, using my hands, I wiped off my tears, wiping the traces of tears as best as I could. “I brought your foo, I am so sorry. My husband had told me what happened. Accept my condolences. I am so sorry.” the unfamiliar stranger said. “Get the hell out of my room,” I said yanking a pillow towards her direction. Calling this my room made me feel weird but I didn’t care. I could still feel her presence in the room, I turned around glaring at her in anger. “Are you deaf or what? I just told you to get the hell out!” I snapped.

“I know how you feel, you can get angry at me and I totally understand. But you should move on, I am sure this is what your parents would want for you. I know we just met and I want you to know that I don’t mean any harm. You have to eat something and survive.” She said, pissing me off. I gritted my teeth in anger, I didn’t need anyone’s pity. Her snarky comment made me let out a laugh of bitterness. “Do I look like someone who needs your help? I don’t need your apologies, and trust me, if really I need a shoulder to cry on, it’s definitely not yours. Its either you leave this room, or I do you the favor of leaving this pack. And please when going, take your food with you, I am not hungry.”

I saw the sadness in her eyes but they weren’t real to me. I just needed some time to mourn and grief and she just had to interrupt my peace. Freya left my room, I got up immediately shutting the door and locking it behind me. “Dad, the man you’ve always wanted to match me up with has a pregnant wife.” I muttered.

Feeling so weak, I went back to the bed and had no idea when I slept off.

_

Waking up to the sounding of chirping birds, I rob my eyes gently. The sound coming from my grumbling stomach made me frown. “She was kind enough to bring you food last night but as the ungrateful bitch you sent her out.” My wolf said. I growled at her angrily, “Shut the fuck up!” I snapped. Getting off the bed, I lost my balance, “Why am I this weak? Damn!” I cussed.

“You haven’t eaten a proper meal for days, don’t be so hard on yourself. If there’s anyone you need to kill then it has to be your bloody uncle.” My wolf said.

Her words were beginning to upset me, I felt so pained at the moment. Waking up to the reality that my parents were no more, scares the shit out of me, everyone would try to act like they understand the pain I am going through but they don’t, nobody does. “I know that already!” pushing myself up with the last strength I had in me, I had to go freshen up.

After I was done, I realized I had nothing to wear. “Do you need my help?” my wolf asked. I rolled my eyes at her, “I could go out naked and get you some good suitors,” I snickered.

I could hear her chuckling, “That’s a savage response,” she replied. I looked around the room, walking towards the wardrobe it was empty. “If I had found a dress here, Alexander has a lot of explaining to do.”

Hearing a slight knock on the door, I wandered who it could be. “It shouldn’t be Freya, what part of I need space doesn’t she understand?” I muttered. The knock came again, “You can come in,” I said with a frown. The door was pushed opened and Alex walked in, he held some dresses in his hands. “Hope that doesn’t belong to your wife?” I asked.

He stared at me for a while, “Do you have a problem with Freya? You shouldn’t be so cheeky, all she is trying to do is be nice to you.” he said.

I guffawed, “And did I ask for her kindness? Don’t tell me you are blind or your Alpha senses have been blocked. You are my mate!” I snapped.

He was silent for a while, “What happened? The cat got your tongue? I never had an idea that you are married, no one does, not even my father. All he ever does is speak highly of you, if I had even the slightest idea, trust me I would never have come here with you. I would have stayed back and dealt with everything, rather than being here with you and your wife. If those clothes belongs to her, take them back.” I glared at him angrily.

“They are not hers, they belong to my mom,” he said pushing them over. I raised my eyelids, “And how am I to believe that?” I asked.

“I can take you to her room and you could see things for yourself,” he replied.

I snatched them from his hands and was about to put them on. I cleared my throat, “It seems you want me just like I want you.” I said.

He looked at me with confused eyes, he was still oblivious to what I meant. “Turn around, do you want to see me naked?” I asked.

He turned around with embarrassment, “Freya hasn’t done anything wrong. She was betrothed to me since from childhood. I feel our mating bond but things can’t work out between us. She is my wife and she is carrying my child.” He said.

His words broke my heart, was he about to reject me? He dare not. “I have no time to face all this, about the mating bond it can be dissolved. But not now, all I care about is getting my revenge. I would avenge the death of my parents at all cost. If I have to die to get that done, then so be it.” I said, every word I said was filled with determination. It’s a promise I was making to myself, I would get stronger and kill everyone, and I wouldn’t leave a soul.

Alex, heaved a depressive sigh, “I understand your pain, I won’t reject you now but about your revenge, you should calm down. This isn’t the right time.” He said. I had no words in response to what he had just said, my mind was already made up, I would stick to the plans I had in my heart. I was already dressed, “You can turn around now,” I said. He turned around to look at me. I felt this shock in his eyes, “What?” I asked. I felt uneasy with the way be was staring at me. “You look so much like my mother,” he said. Why do I feel this sadness hovering around me? He spoke of her like she was no longer alive. “Really, that’s strange, I would love to see her for myself and see.” I said forcing out a smile. “She’s dead.” He replied sadly. I lost my words, I didn’t know what to say to him. “I am sorry I brought back painful memories, earlier you spoke about the dress and I thought she was alive. You can have these ones back.” I said handing over the remaining dresses to him. “I would return this after I have washed them,” I continued.

He stared at me, “You can have them, I am sure she would be happy you are wearing her clothes.” He said this last words and left. “What does he mean by that?” I muttered.
