Caden’s POV.

The room still smelled like sex and sweat. The sheets were a mess beneath us, sticking to my back where her body had pressed against mine. The fan above creaked faintly, but the air remained heavy—thick with heat.

I lit a cigarette.

Dahila’s hand grazed my wrist in weak protest, but she didn’t push. She never did.

The match flared and hissed out, the orange tip glowing in the dark as I inhaled, the smoke filling my lungs.

Her arms slid around me again, slow and lazy, her chest pressed against my side. Her skin was soft. Warm. Familiar. But nothing about it settled me.

“You’ve been quiet,” she whispered. “What’s wrong?”

I didn’t answer right away. My eyes were fixed on the ceiling, following the cracks in the plaster. My thoughts were somewhere else entirely.

Scarlett.

She’d been taking over inside my head.

There’d always been something… unfinished about her. I thought I had her figured out. Thought I’d broken her down to parts and rearranged her into something convenient.

  • Goodbye, Mr. Ex, I’ve Married Your Uncle    Chapter 187

Leon’s POV.Her breath hitched against my mouth, soft and trembling, every second between us stretching into something heavier, harder to stop. My hand slid to her waist, feeling her fingers curl into the fabric of my shirt as though she was afraid I might disappear if she let go. It had been weeks of tension, of unspoken looks across rooms, of near-touches that never quite happened—until now.Scarlett’s laugh was barely a whisper when I kissed her again, slower, deeper, until I forgot about the space between us entirely. Her hands went to my tie, pulling it loose with one firm tug, her eyes never leaving mine. The sound of my shirt buttons giving way made my pulse stumble. I could taste her breath, feel her heartbeat. Everything else in the world—the hum of the air conditioner, the faint hiss of the ocean outside—fell away.We moved together, half-blind, stumbling until the edge of the bed caught behind my legs. She pressed a hand to my chest, and I leaned into it, hovering over her.

  • Goodbye, Mr. Ex, I’ve Married Your Uncle    Chapter 186

Scarlett’s POV.The morning started like any other. Well, except for Miriam in complete command of the household and everyone in her orbit obeying without question. When I walked into the dining room, I nearly turned right back around. The table was buried under mountains of wedding magazines, fabric samples, notebooks, color charts, and half-eaten pastries. Two decorators were standing at attention while Miriam flipped through swatches, her reading glasses perched on the edge of her nose like a queen surveying her subjects.“Oh, good, you’re here,” she said, spotting me immediately. “You have to help me decide between ivory and champagne for the table linens. Ivory feels classic, but champagne says confidence, don’t you think?”I blinked. “I think we’re still missing one small detail—like an actual wedding date.”Miriam waved a hand. “Nonsense, dear. If you wait to start planning until the date is set, you’ll never get anything done. You’ll thank me later.”“I’m sure I will,” I sighe

  • Goodbye, Mr. Ex, I’ve Married Your Uncle    Chapter 185

Scarlett’s POV.The scent of freshly brewed coffee was the first thing I noticed when I opened my eyes. It drifted in from downstairs, mixing with the faint sound of laughter—soft and melodic. It was unmistakably Miriam’s. For a moment, I allowed myself to lie there, the morning light spilling through the curtains, warming my face. The house felt alive.Thankfully, not in a way that involved screeching alarms, shouting, or late-night distressed knocks at the door. Just the quiet hum of normal life, something that felt rare these days. When I finally made my way down the stairs, the calm illusion shattered almost instantly. It was not in a bad way, but in that distinctly Miriam fashion that made subtlety impossible. The dining room looked like a wedding had exploded inside it.There were fabric swatches, stacks of papers, and open binders spread across every surface. An actual florist and an event planner stood at the table, both looking mildly terrified as Miriam gestured dramatically

  • Goodbye, Mr. Ex, I’ve Married Your Uncle    Chapter 184

Leon’s POV.By the time evening came around, I was already regretting scheduling that meeting. Not because it wasn’t important—it was. But because leaving Scarlett alone with my mother felt like handing a match to a woman standing beside a barrel of gasoline. When I told Scarlett I had to step out for a few hours, she’d smiled sweetly and said, “I’ll be fine. What’s the worst that could happen?”I didn’t have the heart to answer that question.Miriam Rosenthal was unstoppable once she set her mind on something. And now it appeared that her mind had decided that Scarlett and I were a wedding waiting to happen.I made Ezra swear he’d keep his phone on in case the house went up in metaphorical flames and left, half convinced I’d come home to a floral arrangement catalog spread across the dining table. The meeting itself dragged. My associate—which was one of the security consultants we’d hired after the incident at the beach house—went through system updates, new protocols, camera covera

  • Goodbye, Mr. Ex, I’ve Married Your Uncle    Chapter 183

Scarlett’s POV.It started innocently enough. Late afternoon tea in the sunroom, soft music playing somewhere down the hall, and the twins asleep in their bassinets beside the table. Miriam had insisted on making it “a family moment,” which sounded lovely in theory—until she opened her mouth.“So,” she began, stirring her tea like she was preparing for battle. “How many children do you and my son plan to have?”I froze mid-sip. The tea went down the wrong way, and I nearly choked trying to swallow.“I—uh—what?” I managed, wiping my mouth with a napkin.Miriam’s expression stayed perfectly composed, like she hadn’t just dropped the conversational equivalent of a grenade. “Children, dear. You know, siblings for these two. You and Leon make such beautiful babies, it would be a shame to stop at one set.”I blinked at her. I wasn’t sure if she was joking or completely serious. “Oh, we haven’t really… talked about that yet.”“Nonsense. It’s never too soon to think ahead,” she said, waving o

  • Goodbye, Mr. Ex, I’ve Married Your Uncle    Chapter 182

Leon’s POV.Peace never lasted long in my world. It lingered just long enough to make you think maybe, just maybe, things were changing, and then something always came along to remind you where you stood. For a handful of days, the mansion had been quiet. The kind of quiet that should’ve felt comforting. The security guards made their rounds without issue, Ezra had stopped frowning every time his phone rang, and Scarlett had begun to look more rested. She’d started humming to the twins again, walking through the garden when the sun was out, even joining me for breakfast in the mornings when the house was still calm. The babies had filled the place with new sounds—tiny cries, hiccups, the occasional wail that made me drop everything I was doing and run to the nursery before Scarlett even had the chance to stand.Leila had the sharper cry of the two, high and demanding, while James was the one who always followed her lead, as if afraid to let her outdo him. Some mornings I found Scarlet
