Chapter 1108

Author: Cozy Season
"Robert Fitchett," Robert confessed, swallowing his pride.

Debra nodded. "Okay. Robert, were you working for Shawn, just like Marion and the others?"

"Wouldn't it be better if you asked him directly?"

"Why did you want to kill Marion?"

"You made it difficult for Theda."

"Is that the reason?" Debra raised an eyebrow. "Well, you care about her so much."

Robert looked away and said, "She is the best woman I've ever met."

"I'm not interested in your love story. I need you to explain why you risked your life to try and kill Marion."

"You don't know?" Robert sneered. "Marion has been thrashing the Buchan Group. He wanted to clear obstacles for you, and you're telling me you didn't know?"

Debra frowned. "When did this happen?"

"Since the day you handed the share transfer papers to Theda," Robert explained. "The Buchan family has been getting crushed. Are you telling me you didn't know Marion was after the shares? If Theda didn't hand them over, he would've hit her family hard. Her s

Marion stepped forward, pressing a gun to Solomon's jaw and forcing his head up."Where did you come from?" he demanded. The pressure was suffocating. Solomon couldn't breathe. This version of Marion was simply awe-inspiring.I jumped in. "We're not with the Illuminati. We're your fans."Marion glanced at me. His eyes carried a chilling, murderous intensity that made me shrink."High schoolers, huh? Their clothes are weird." Randy inspected our outfits.Erica, on the other hand, seemed intrigued. "Pretty trendy. How did I miss this brand's new line?"Solomon and I wore limited-edition fall gear from a well-known brand. She recognized it as she circled us."We're not high schoolers," I said. "We're in college.""Which one?""Arcane Academy."Randy glanced at Debra. "You've got some juniors here."She graduated from Arcane too, but beyond that, I didn't know much. She stepped closer. "Last chance. Why are you tailing us?""We..." Before I could finish, Solomon cut in. "We

"What's that smell? It's awful." I covered my nose. The blood stench was overwhelming, like one from a slaughterhouse mixed with the briny sea."Something's wrong," Solomon muttered."Ma'am, they killed so many of our guys." The lead bodyguard's face was grim. "They followed us for years. The Illuminati are animals!"The west docks were littered with bodies, sprawled in every direction.Debra forced herself to stay calm. "Haven't the police shown up yet?""They're on their way," another bodyguard chimed in. "When I got here, our guys were already down. This is sheer provocation."Randy frowned. "Hold on. They made this big a mess just to pick a fight?""Something is wrong," Debra said, raising her hand. "Run!"The bodyguards quickly scattered. Their leader stepped in front of Debra and Erica.A massive explosion roared from the sea."Mom!" I shouted, trying to rush over."Are you nuts? That's a bomb." Solomon grabbed me, leading me to run.The blasts kept coming. It was li

Unimpressed, Debra kicked the bodyguard in the backside. "So, you just grabbed two high school kids? Didn't even bother to ask questions? What if you got the wrong people?"The bodyguard rubbed his sore rear. "Ma'am, these two punks were scrapping like pros. It looked shady to me. Better detain and grill them.""Grill them? You think this is some overseas black site? You've been hanging with Marion for too long, ready to interrogate anyone who crosses your path," Debra sulked.Randy descended from the executive office upstairs. He looked like he'd pulled several all-nighters. His face was haggard, with dark circles under his eyes.Solomon saw him and blurted, "Dad?""Huh?" Randy froze.Erica, hot on his heels, grabbed his ear. Her tone dripped with suspicion. "Dad?""Hold up! I don't even know this guy." He pointed frantically at Solomon. "You're some Illuminati plant, aren't you? Do we look alike at all? You're talking nonsense."Debra glanced at Solomon, then back at Randy. T

Their tough attitude surprised me but allowed me to get a glimpse of my family's past. These weren't the roughnecks I knew."Lock them up," Ben said flatly."Yes, sir." The guards quickly grabbed us.I tensed, realizing that if we let them cage us, we were done for. I exchanged a look with Solomon, and we leaped into action. We'd only let them catch us so we could see our parents. Since that wasn't happening, we were not going down without a fight.Ben paused, finding our moves familiar. As we duked it out, a woman's voice cut through. "Stop!"It was clear and crisp, with an edge that demanded respect.I spun around, and there stood my mom. She wore a bold red dress, her hair loose to her waist. Her makeup was flawless. She looked way younger than I remembered. For a moment, I was amazed by her vibrance.Lost in awe, I didn't see a fist coming. Solomon yanked me back just in time, or I'd have lost a couple of teeth."Didn't you hear me? I said stop," Debra snapped, her gaze

I used to think the adults were just hyping up their glory days. They made the Illuminati sound like this big, scary force. But after meeting Stanley, I figured the Illuminati was overrated.Solomon noticed people staring at us. Some were reading newspapers, and others sipping coffee or chatting. Their behavior was creepy, and their gazes were sharp.Solomon sensed the tension, suspecting that they were onto us."Run!" he yelled, grabbing my arm. Before I could react, he dragged me away. Those "normal" customers immediately dropped their props and chased us."Why are they after us?" I shouted."What do you think? We were lurking outside their company," Randy replied."Lurking? We just stayed there for a minute."I didn't expect the situation to be so tense. Any hint of trouble set them off."Stop!" A man around 30 blocked our path. His gear was something I couldn't be more familiar with. He must be on my dad's crew.Solomon shot me a look, signaling we'd have to fight our w

"Where did they live back then? Same place?" I muttered, curious.Solomon mused, "My folks said the four families' old estates never changed. Should be the same.""Then what are we waiting for? Let's go.""How? You know the way?"My excitement fizzled because I was totally lost. The future Seamar City was all skyscrapers and tech. This one? Still tall buildings, but the streets were different. Only a few old structures looked familiar."Now what? Uber? This era has got Uber, right?" I said."With what?" Randy asked."If this is a dream, can't we control it with our minds?""You mean, lucid dreaming?""Yeah, why not?""Worth a shot, but it might be risky."Controlling dreams was tricky, especially in this weird shared one.We tried standing still, focusing, but nothing happened. Lucid dreaming didn't work here.I gave up. "Let's just walk. We'll find it."We trekked along, following fuzzy memories. Luckily, we were downtown. We didn't find our homes, but we spotted the M
