Chapter 600

Author: Cozy Season
"Man, it's barely 8 AM. Please, just let me sleep." Randy groaned.

He had been up all night, trailing after Marion to this remote island. The moment they'd arrived, Marion had made him rent a car for a whole month and now had dragged him to this desolate beach to spy on the filming.

If it weren't for the fact that Marion was his best friend, Randy would've bailed long ago. This wasn't his idea of fun.

He muttered under his breath, "I swear, even secret agents don't have to do this much."

"Let's just watch a little longer," Marion said, peering through the binoculars.

His attention focused on the small fishing boat where Debra and Juan were boarding.

"Go buy a fishing boat."

"What?"

Randy practically jumped out of his seat. 'We're out of nowhere. Where am I supposed to get a boat?'

This place was a bit too rustic for his taste. Wealthy men like him usually didn't come to places like this for romance. The location, the accommodations, and even the rented car sucked.

He sighed,

"A lobster? Three pounds?"Debra walked closer, spotting other massive sea creatures. "A ten-pound king crab and turbot?"Juan chimed in, "Crayfish and snow crabs too."Debra was dumbfounded. Even though this place was rich in sea creatures, it couldn't possibly offer this much bounty from other areas or countries. She glanced over at the cameraman for an answer. If it was the production team who arranged this, they were treating the audience like fools. The cameraman quickly shook his head. They didn't have that kind of budget. Even the director was on tight means. Then again, since the seafood had already been caught, they couldn't just toss it back into the ocean.Only a fool would pass up free stuff. They might as well take it.Juan started surveying the surroundings. Soon, his eyes locked on a fishing boat.He wrinkled his brow and said to the fisherman, "Take us back."It was a fruitful trip for Debra and Juan, but the production team was left in deep thought as they watched the

Debra suddenly sneezed as she sat on the bus, heading back."Damn, who's talking behind my back?"Then she felt a hand touch her forehead. Looking up, she found Juan standing over her, his expression serious."You're running a fever," he said.He remembered when Debra had first married him. Her health hadn't been the best, and Melody had told him to take good care of her. The house was still filled with the various medicines she'd brought with her.But ever since then, Debra had shown no signs of being frail. She was always running around and never backed down from a verbal sparring match.Debra brushed his hand away. "Just a mild fever. I'll be fine."She turned away from the camera, and Juan turned to the cameraman."How long will we reach the place?""Just the next stop.""Is there a pharmacy nearby?"The cameraman hesitated, embarrassed to admit he had no idea since he wasn't familiar with the area either.Juan sighed, "Forget it. I'll order something."Debra mumbled u

Shocked, Joe took out his phone and saw an avalanche of online comments. He couldn't believe Melody had exposed the divorce agreement between Debra and Juan."Mrs. Nichols Sr., do you realize the consequences?""Consequences?" Melody let out a cold laugh and said, "The consequence is that Debra can no longer cling to Juan."The shareholders echoed her words."That's right. Debra is broke. Without Mr. Nichols' support, she couldn't even find a place in this city.""I bet she got into that high-end variety show because Mr. Nichols pulled some strings for her.""Mrs. Nichols Sr. is truly wise. Not only did she expose the divorce agreement, but she also leaked those photos of Debra cheating with that gigolo. With this, there's no need to worry about our stock price falling. After all, it was Debra who messed up this time."They rang praises of Melody, who smiled with delight. She had been furious, feeling cornered by Debra's boldness during their previous confrontations, but now t

Debra jolted awake, drenched in cold sweat.Juan was nearby, soaking a towel. When he noticed she was awake, he asked, "Do you want something to eat?"The sight of Juan only deepened her fear. Instinctively, she scooted away from him, a motion he couldn't help but notice."Did you have a nightmare?" he asked. It was indeed a nightmare. In her dream, it felt as if she had been transported to her past life. She had observed everything as a ghost. When she had seen the gravestone, the pain of dying on the operating table had rushed through her all over again."I..."Juan silenced her with a look, mouthing, "There's a camera."Debra composed himself and forced a smile. "Yeah, just a bad dream.""You've got a fever," Juan said, glancing at the thermometer. "101 degrees Fahrenheit. I'm making some oatmeal for you, and the medicine is on the table.""Okay," Debra replied smoothly. After Juan left the room, her mind replayed the dream over and over.'If that dream was a glimpse of

Debra sat on the edge of the bed, staring at her phone. The trending post about her scandal still hadn't been taken down, and the comment section had become a warzone.[Rich people are all the same. They play around behind each other's backs. The mistress got pregnant, and that forced Debra to stage her kidnapping to trick him and milk the Nichols family for money.]...The rumors got more and more ridiculous, making Debra roll her eyes before finally closing the app.Her phone buzzed with an incoming call from an unknown number. Debra answered it, only to be greeted by a deranged voice on the other end."You filthy bitch. Stay away from my idol.""

Debra remembered that in her past life, after she married into the Nichols family, Violet had always lived overseas. It wasn't until the fourth year of her marriage that Violet returned. And the reason for her return was simple. Her husband had developed a gambling addiction. Although Violet was still dressed well, her wealth had been exhausted. Her husband sent her back to ask the Nichols family for money. In this timeline, it was only the second year of her marriage. Her return was out of the timeline. It seemed that since Debra's rebirth, more than just a few things had deviated from the original course. And Violet was someone particularly difficult to deal with."You must be Debra," Violet sneered, sizing her up. "You're not bad-looking. No wonder Juan keeps revolving around you."Debra's head was throbbing with a dull ache. She wasn't in the mood to play verbal games with this woman. "Mrs. Sosa, what do you want?"Violet stiffened, suspicion flashing across her eyes. "How di

"I heard your family went bankrupt and you don't have any money. You know, if you begged, we might give you some for you to get by," Violet said, her voice dripping with condescension.Debra was unimpressed. "I don't understand what you're talking about."Violet was pissed off. "Debra, you're forcing my hand here."She shot a glance at her bodyguards. In an instant, they stormed upstairs, rifling through every corner of the house.Debra furrowed her brows, watching as Violet leisurely made herself comfortable on the sofa. The bodyguards overturned tables and rummaged through drawers like they were conducting a raid."How's it going?" Violet asked lazily."Ma'am, we didn't find Mr. Nichols anywhere," they replied.Violet's frown deepened. She turned to Debra with a look of suspicion."I didn't expect you to be so capable. Tell me now. Where are you hiding him?""Mrs. Sosa, I've already explained. He's not here. Your people have searched the place. Are you going to leave now?"

"No biggie. I'm just that sharp," Randy grinned."Don't flatter yourself." Erica smacked his arm, turning to Debra. "If that's the play, we'll set up around the valley early.""We scoped it out last time. Here's the terrain map Marion roughed out. Memorize the basics, just in case," Debra said.Jordan spoke up. "I'll plant people inside to learn the lay. If things go down, we'll back each other up."He paused, frowning. "But we've only got one path. Without the full picture, it's still risky.""Got it here," a voice called from the door.Everyone turned to see Theda walking in with Robert. A map was in her hand."It's you guys." Debra was surprised.Theda had been busy with her business. She barely had time to breathe, not to mention show up there."This mess is huge. If the Illuminati takes Seamar City, my business is done," Theda said. She'd seen Jeffery's crazy side. The Illuminati couldn't be anything good. She unrolled the map and stuck it on the board. Liza eased up, knowing Debra was always faithful. She would help if she said so."Is the Illuminati really that bad?" Liza asked, having never seen Fermin cornered like that."Yeah," Debra said flat-out.Liza fought back her tears. "I'm not as smart as you guys, but if I can help...""You've done plenty," Debra said, patting her head. The once-bratty lady had grown into someone brave and kind. They'd all seen her change. But this was too risky. They couldn't bet on her life."Everything's set," Marion said, striding in with Jordan.Liza blinked at their suits. They looked solemn, as if ready for a last stand.Debra nodded. "Alright, let's go over everyone's setup and run through the plan."Randy wheeled in a blackboard that showed the outskirts map.The Four Great Families had owned Seamar City for ages. Their eyes and ears were on every corner. They'd linked up north, south, east, and west, with Juan's lines tied in.According to intel, the Illuminati hadn't sunk deep ro

"Just listen to me and go," Fermin said, pulling his hand free. The next thing she knew, he yanked her toward the emergency exit."Fermin!" she yelped. The restaurant staff, loyal to Fermin, hustled her into the stairwell. By the time the guards outside caught on, she was gone."Get her," the guards barked. If Liza slipped away, Michael would have their heads. But before they could chase, Fermin's crew boxed them in."You know what this means?" one guard spat, dropping all politeness. They knew he was just a puppet. If he broke free, Bert's life would be done."Kill them," Fermin ordered, turning back to the restaurant.A waiter dropped a tray, the crash drowning out muffled screams from the stairwell.Liza was already in a cab. She tried to turn back, but a staffer blocked her. "Miss, you can't go anywhere but Seamar City. The Potter Mansion is your safest bet. "Dad." Liza rushed to the bed, grabbing Bert's hand.In her mind, Bert was a stern old grump. He was always tough and sharp. But now, the illness had taken a toll on him. He had shrunk, and his hair had gone gray overnight.Fermin stood behind her, watching with pain.In fact, Bert had been ill for a while now. He had been grooming Fermin for years. But once he'd caught wind of Fermin's plans, Bert would rather kill him and trash their legacy than let him join the Illuminati.Fermin knew this day was coming. Liza didn't. Bert never wanted her to.She froze, feeling like his hand had twitched. She stopped crying and spun to Fermin."Did you see it? Drake's mouth hung open, but no words came out."I swapped the drug for saline," Juan said. "You're on your own tonight. You've only had one dose, so there might still be a chance. Old memories came flooding back, from their first meeting to their camaraderie. They had been through thick and thin together. If it hadn't been for him, Kale wouldn't have been dead....In the hospital, Liza kept watch outside the ICU where Bert lay.Two black-suited guards blocked the door. Even after surgery, they wouldn't let her in."When can I see him?" she asked, clenching her fists. The guards stood like statues, ignoring her."That's my dad," she shouted, pounding their chests. Juan arrived at a villa on Seamar City's outskirts. It was where Drake was locked up.It was pitch black in the room, with only a bed. The windows were nailed shut. The moment Drake handed over the stone, he'd guessed his fate. The Illuminati had rules for traitors: the blessing ritual. But that "blessing" was just injecting their latest drug into turncoats. They would be used as free guinea pigs. Death was the best outcome. Surviving meant real torture. It didn't hurt. Rather, it felt like heaven. That was why they called it a blessing."When did they shoot you up with that stuff?" Juan asked.Drake leaned back on the bed, nonchalant. "I gave them the stone. It doesn't matter to you. Just give me the drug."By night, he was a mess. The stuff could ease the pain for an hour. Then hell would kick in. Once the cravings hit, it felt like ants gnawing his bones. The pain wired into his nerves. At its worst, he'd bash the wall, tempted to bite his tongue off.He couldn't leave wit

To the bishop, Debra and her crew were small fry.A hundred years ago, the Four Great Families might've been untouchable. But now? Their roots were shaky. The Illuminati, on the other hand, had grown unstoppable. For the stone, he'd see them and let them feel the Illuminati's might. It was something callows like them couldn't touch."Tell them I pick the time and place," he said. "Get the stone ready. If it's fake, they'll get the harshest punishment from God.""Yes, Master," Michael replied, turning to leave.Lara stood up to protest, "I'm against this. We should take the chance to wipe them out and take their assets."In her mind, the four families were nothing. When they could snatch what they wanted, there was no need for deals or games."God spares all," the bishop muttered. "I'll give them a shot to live. If they bow, why kill them?"Lara fell silent, but Frederic stepped out of the shadows. He asked, "What about the stone Drake gave us?""Only one of the two stones is

Night settled in deep.Debra and the crew were still waiting for Michael's reply."Still nothing? They don't buy it, do they?" Erica paced, antsy."Give it time. They'll bite," Debra said, clutching her phone. She had promised Kale she would bring Drake back. No breaking that.A text finally pinged her phone. It was Michael.Everyone heaved a sigh of relief. Like Debra said, the Illuminati couldn't rule out her having the real stone. If theirs was fake, Michael and his crew couldn't afford the fallout."Marion, it's on you now," Debra said. The Houston family had military muscle on tap. The Potter family owned elite guards and intel. Erica and Randy were solid backups. But this meeting? Debra had to go herself."Does it have to be now? Maybe wait till you're healed?" Erica said.Debra shook her head. "Drake is at risk every day he's with them. I can't take that chance. Just like they can't risk us holding the stone.""She's right," Randy jumped in.
