Chapter 4

Author: Ava
“If it weren’t for you, my mother wouldn’t have blamed Doris—and Peter wouldn’t have gotten lost during their argument!”

Peter… was lost?

Dread clawed at my chest. Hadn’t I returned from the past to prevent this very tragedy?

“You always think about yourself,” Luke snapped. “You’re pregnant—imagine the pain of losing your pups. That’s what Doris is going through! Can’t you stop being so selfish?”

He glared at me coldly. “This is your fault. You owe Doris. And if Peter isn’t found… then forget about your unborn pups too.”

His words cut through me like knives. My wolf howled in agony—I knew all too well the heartbreak of losing pups.

But he still didn’t know… ours were already gone.

“I’ll find Peter and bring him back,” I said quietly and walked past him. But Luke just sneered.

“Don’t act so noble. It’s your responsibility to find him. Don’t expect me to forgive you even if you do.”

I searched near Doris’s den. Her lights stayed on all night. Through the window, I saw her and Luke, holding each other tightly.

The cold bit through me. My body, still fragile from the miscarriage, felt weak and faint. But I pushed on, searching for Peter for two long hours. I had to find him. I couldn’t owe Luke anything—not after what he lost for me in the past.

It wasn’t until dawn that I finally found Peter. He was curled up, trembling in an abandoned den.

I carried him back to Doris’s place. As I approached, I saw Luke tenderly wiping Doris’s tears.

“Doris, look—Peter’s back!” Luke called out.

She rushed out and clutched Peter in her arms. When Luke turned to speak to me, she quickly interrupted with a sob:

“Peter—your body’s still burned! Luke, please take Peter to the infirmary with me. I can’t lose him—he’s just a child!”

Luke hesitated. I saw the conflict in his eyes.

Struggling to remain upright, I leaned against the wall and forced a small smile. “I’m fine. Go—take Peter to the infirmary.”

The moment they left, I collapsed. Darkness closed in around me.

When I opened my eyes again, I was in the infirmary—and Luke was sitting by my side, staring at me with a look of deep concern.

Why did you insist on looking for him, even if your body was weak?” Luke’s voice trembled with barely worried. “Didn’t you think my mother would cause trouble for Doris if she found you unconscious here?”

From his reaction, I could tell—he still didn’t know our pups had died. That, at least, brought me a strange sense of relief.

“I’m sorry about last night,” I said softly. “My attitude wasn’t right, but I acted that way because I was truly afraid Doris might do something reckless… Her son was missing, and I couldn’t leave her alone. That’s why you had to search for Peter on your own.”

Luke’s eyes softened with guilt. “I’m sorry for that,” he said, sincerely meeting my gaze.

His expression shifted as he studied me, searching for something in my eyes—perhaps doubt, or pain, or forgiveness.

“You’re always so kind,” I said with a faint smile. “Didn't you take me in just because you felt sorry for me? Do you regret marking me your Luna? If you hadn’t helped me back then, maybe you would’ve been happier now.”

Luke froze for a moment, then slowly shook his head.

“I’ve never—ever—regretted marking you,” he said with quiet conviction. “Don’t let those thoughts eat away at you. I made you the pasta you love. Come on, eat while it’s still warm.”

Just as I was about to take a bite, Doris stepped into the room.

“Luke,” she whimpered, clutching her stomach, “my wolf is too weak… she’s growling in pain. Can I have the pasta instead? Aria’s wolf is stronger than mine, isn’t she?”

“Aria, I never meant to hurt you or our pups... but I can’t forgive myself for failing to save Doris and Peter before we came back from the past.”“Their deaths have haunted me every single day. I’ve been drowning in guilt for years... and in that struggle, I neglected your pain.”“From the moment I met you, I swore to protect you—to keep you safe from harm. But in the end... I was the one who hurt you the most.”“I thought maybe... if I could use the time machine to change everything, to save them, then we could live without regrets. I promised myself I wouldn’t choose them again. I would save them... and leave them behind.”“But I never imagined that after saving her, I’d lose you. If I had known this would be the price, I would have never chosen to return.”“You probably think I’m a joke, don’t you?”Luke smiled bitterly, but the pain in his eyes betrayed the smile.I looked at him, a soft smile tugging at my lips.Of course I didn’t think he was joking—because every bit of pain in

Luke grabbed my hand, desperation written all over his face. “Aria, I know I was a bastard—I hurt you in ways I can never undo. But please… don’t leave me. You’re the only one who’s ever meant to be my Luna. Let’s start over. We can build a life together… have our pups, just like we dreamed—”Before he could finish, Doris suddenly threw herself at him, sobbing uncontrollably.“Luke! Where have you been? I’ve been looking everywhere! I was so worried—why didn’t you answer my calls or my mind-link?”Panic flickered in her eyes. The pack had already started whispering about her scandal with the rogue werewolf, and without Luke’s protection, she knew she might be cast out. Her desperation reeked of fear—not love. But what she didn’t expect was the look in Luke’s eyes. They were cold—burning with disgust and disdain. He pushed her away firmly, no longer hesitating.“Luke? What’s wrong with you?” Doris asked, her voice trembling as she turned to me. “Aria, you must’ve misunderstood him. Plea

"I didn’t tell you any of this because you were injured and too weak after the battle. I was afraid your body—and your heart—couldn’t handle another blow. Besides, as the Alpha of our pack, your reputation couldn’t afford to be stained because of Doris.""I thought you’d move on from her after marking Aria, but the moment Doris came back, you chose her again. And worse—you hurt your true mate, over and over again, all for Doris.""You had no idea how much Aria did for you. She handled endless trouble from other packs while you were spending nights with another woman. She even started to believe she wasn’t worthy of your love—that you only marked her out of pity. That’s why she insisted on breaking the bond… not because she hated you, but because she didn’t want to be a burden to your happiness. She wanted you to be free—to choose someone else."Luke slowly closed his eyes, his heart twisting in agony as silent tears streamed down his face. How could his bond with Doris have turned into

"That can't be true!"Luke blurted out without thinking, his voice hoarse from anxiety. He stared at the healer in utter disbelief, his lips trembling with fear. The healer silently pulled out the medical document and handed it to Luke."See for yourself. There's no reason for me to lie."Luke scanned the paper with trembling hands. His wolf's eyes turned blood-red, and a low growl escaped his throat as his claws extended, shredding the document into ribbons."No... this isn't real. I don’t believe it!" he murmured, voice cracking. Before the healer could say anything more, he stormed out of the infirmary. He rushed back to his den—but Aria was nowhere to be found. Without hesitation, he ran straight to his mother’s quarters."Is Aria here? I need to speak to her," Luke demanded, throwing the torn document to the floor.Alice opened her mouth to respond, but her eyes caught the word "miscarriage" on the paper. Her breath caught in her throat, and she slumped onto the sofa in devastatio

Even though my own wolf was growling in fury, desperate to eat first, Luke handed the bowl to Doris without hesitation.“She was soaked in the ocean for hours. Her body’s still fragile. Let her have the hot meal. Aria, you can have the sandwich instead.”Just as he finished, Doris gave me a saccharine smile and said sweetly, “Of course, Aria. You can have mine—though it did fall on the floor earlier. But don’t worry, the floor was just cleaned.”Luke quickly added, “I’ll make you another bowl of pasta, Aria—”But Doris interrupted again.“Luke, can you go out and get some herbal tea? The healers said Peter needs it to recover.”Luke hesitated for a moment, then nodded and left.It was several hours before he came back. When he saw the uneaten food still on the table, guilt flashed in his eyes.“Thank God you ate something... I’m sorry I forgot to make your meal again.”Then he looked at me, serious.“I promise I won’t break our bond. And I hope you won’t cause trouble for Doris, either
