Chapter 23 – The only air Gabriel would ever breathe would be Maeve.

Maeve stared at her father and tried to stifle her laughter. Her cheeks had already turned pink in response to his glare.

“Dad, it’s nothing.”

“Oh yes, it is. What did you do to Gabriel?” Reginald asked seriously, not believing that it was nothing. He knew his daughter was crazy and did not want Gabriel to get hurt anymore.

Maeve was embarrassed at the way her father kept glaring at her. “Dad, I said it’s nothing,” she said and began to run up the stairs.

Reginald was still uncomfortable, so he dialed Gabriel’s number. Gabriel was driving, but his phone speaker was connected to his dashboard.

“Dad!”

Reginald was relieved that Gabriel sounded vibrant but still asked, “Son, did everything go well? What did she say?”

Gabriel smiled and responded, “Nothing, Dad.” He could not tell Reginald that Maeve had hugged and kissed him. That was something intimate, and he just couldn’t share. Reginald could still not get over his unease,
