She is called the rare gem, but when her father died, Ava inherited nothing but betrayal wrapped in hell and ice. Her step-sister, Ivana, who by character is the devil's bride, took it all. The company Ava built from dust, the legacy that bore her name, and worst, her husband. Stripped of everything, Ava vows revenge. The kind to make a man beg for death instead, and the one to make the dead yawn for judgement. However, as she claws her way back to power, secrets rise from her father’s grave. Darker than blood and deeper than betrayal she has ever known. Will she destroy the man who once vowed forever? Or will the truth behind her father’s will break her harder than any heartbreak ever could?

The door creaked open and the blood drained from my veins. Ethan was naked, slamming into not just any woman… but my step-sister. “Ethan!” My voice mimicked the sound of a high mountain crumbling down, with raging thunder backing it up. Pulling his hardened length out of her, he pushed his finger in and out of her before walking towards me with his dripping finger. He moved it towards my mouth and without thinking, my pale palm met his cheek with a force strong enough to turn his head to a whole new direction. “Happy anniversary, wife,” he chuckled at my despair while my step-sister, Ivana, only smirked in satisfaction when I held the wrap of the condom up. “You couldn’t even wait or leave our anniversary out of this, Ethan! How could you do this to me?!” I slapped his chest with blurry vision from my tears. Wasn’t Ivana supposed to be tending to our father? Wasn't he planning a surprise? Haven’t I done everything that I was supposed to do as a wife and as a woman crazily in love today and days before today? What then did I do to deserve this?! “I’ll suggest you take your filthy hands off of him,” Ivana’s cold and venomous voice stung me in my chest. “He’s my husband, how could you?” I spat, feeling like the earth should swallow her up already. She just sat on the bed with her hands dancing and slowly caressing her bare body just to tick me off. I glanced over at Ethan at least to draw some sort of sympathy out of him, but his emotions towards me were as cold as ice, void as space and flat as a mirror. “You wouldn’t dare talk to her in that tone ever again, Ava,” he sneered at me with disgust, crushing the part of my heart that's barely beating. “And I’m not your husband,” he added with an intense gaze and clenched jaw. " I’m done with you, so get lost!” Was it the hate in his eyes? The venom in my voice or the irritation that he exuded when he spoke to me? Everything made it clear that he was done? Everything made me question if it was truly the man I had grown to love. I looked over to Ivana, trying hard to hold back the tears the second time, but it hurt. It hurt so bad that I felt their betrayal literally burning my skin, leaving my veins popping out and my complexion red. “You will pay for this.” I slammed the door in their faces and ran as fast as my feet could carry towards my car. As long as I stayed within the premises, it became more difficult for me to breathe. It felt like the memory of them together drained down the air in my lungs and everything left for me to do was to run as fast I could. Driving back to the company, I decided to stay for a while until I was a bit fit to go back home as my father would be worried sick if he got to see me like this. However, Ethan was fond of creating a romantic scene at my place of work during the past wedding anniversary. Now it was going to look strange if I walked into the company again on the day of my anniversary. I stayed in my car, drowning in sorrow until there were no more tears to shed. My head ached as much as my heart did and when the noise began to fade, I smiled sadly hoping to finally get some peace. My phone rang for the second time today and my heart skipped one unlucky beat in anticipation of seeing Ethan’s call hoping that maybe, he wanted to apologise. However, it was the nanny. “I’m sorry I couldn’t make it home quite early today, I-” I was interrupted by an indistinctive whispering at first, then came a sniffing sound and finally an outburst. “W-w-what’s wrong?” I stammered, not ready for another bad news in one day. Her fears spoke louder than whatever was going on in her mind, and the cryptic message her sobs sent made the hairs on my arms stand erect. My gaze was fixed in one direction and my grip against my phone tightened. “Take it easy, okay?” I tried to soothe her across the distance. “Whatever that's happening, you have to at least try to speak,” my own words were laced with the same uncertainty a diver has before he jumps from a cliff. Seeing that she wasn't going to stop sobbing, I opted for a different approach with a fuzzy mind, but before I could ask anything, she had already spoken up. “Please, Ma’am, I need you to come quickly to the hospital,” her voice cracked. Hospital… Fear crippled my feet while my irresponsibility covered my mouth. Damn! How did I forget about my father's condition?! “I-is everything okay? Is-” I swallowed, but there was nothing to go down my throat. I emptied my bag on the seat next to me while searching for both my car key and the right words. “A-are you alone there?” “It’s your father, Ava,” her sobs continued. “Please be quick, I think you’re the only one he wants to see now.”Ava's POVA cold breeze settled down my spine on the realisation that this wasn't a coincidence and I could have been being monitored by someone I didn't even know. It quickly brought memories of the last event I attended, where I didn't just end up in the pool. I felt that force in the midst of the crowd and I just knew that it was one of the many people that were there.Strangely, this was the only moment that I realised that Ivana never surfaced. Which makes sense now because she might have been behind the scenes, planning and executing vile plans.“You're acting strangely all of a sudden. Is there something I need to know?” Cordelia asked with furrowed brows, following my gaze to the window. “Is someone there?”Seeing worry settle on her before my explanation, I quickly pulled her away from the window and closed the curtains. “Uhm…” I swallowed hard while my sweating hands rested on her shoulders for a form of reassurance. “It's just hormones,” I lied, spanking myself mentally at
Ava's POVEver since my visit to the hospital, there was no form of healthy tea and exercises I hadn't tried all thanks to Cordelia. She would bring me different meals even before I was able to make a choice or confirm that I was hungry. Each time I tried to complain, she'd remind me that I had a child growing inside of me so everything she was doing was for us now.Today is day three since we visited the hospital and since it was a Monday, I was hoping to get the reports today. Thankfully, James hadn't called since then which in a way made me disappointed. On one hand, I was happy that I wouldn't have to feel bad for not telling him what was wrong with me even though he had helped to make sure that I was fine and on the other hand, I thought he was interested in something about me. Maybe not in us being a couple, but at least he was always in my space for him to just vanish with no trace within these few days.“Hello,” Cordelia snapped her thumb and index finger in my face before I b
James’s POVMy mansion had been empty for the past five years since I lost her. Every success was just to fill up the void and repaint her name on her walls, and honestly, everything was going fine. Everything was so perfect until Ava. She stirred the wheel again, bringing back old memories as well as the urge to recreate them.It took a lot from me not to start spying on her to make sure that she was safe and that before anyone would dare to hurt a hair on her head, I'd be away and save her from the danger in time. Regardless, there was still little I could do, so I washed off the stress in the shower and rested for tomorrow. “I'm not sure when her appointment with the doctor will be, that's why I need you to be there as early as possible,” I instructed my driver, Mike. “Also, double-check the location you have and be sure it tallies with what I sent to you.”“It does. How would you get to work, though? Should I drive in after a while to drop you off?”“I have a damn car, Mike, so f
Ava's POV The blinding light from the window pierced my eyes open. I ruffled the pillow against my palms before slowly opening my eyes to be greeted by a very appealing scent.I sat up and tried to recall events from last night in bits. Thankfully, they didn't have much impact on me as they did last night. I just stared at my belly, gathering all my strength from where I left it because I now had a new reason to be strong. “Good morning, my dear,” Cordelia’s voice echoed with more relief than hurt or disappointment. “How are you feeling?”I exhaled, then glanced at the entire room which was a complete contrast from the mess it was last night, before settling my gaze on her. “I feel new, just tired,” I sighed. She gave me a small smile before handing a small teacup over to me.“It will help relieve your pain,” she explained.I slowly gulped the amber coloured liquid. It had a strong taste of cinnamon and other things I wasn't sure of, but I did feel different after taking it. “Thank
James’s POVI didn't need any amplifier to make out the exhaustion and fear in her voice, and I couldn't care less how I looked now.“What's wrong with her?”“She's just having a bad time, son, but she'll be fine I promise,” she said slowly leading me down the stairs.“Does she know that I'm here?”“She doesn't and please I'd like it to stay that way until she gets better,” added, spiking my curiosity the more. I took one last glance at the staircase leading to her room, then exhaled. Of course, I was useless here and wouldn't be able to do anything to help her from here, so I decided to leave, not because I wanted to, but because I had to.“Please let me know if there's any news, okay?” “I will.”I left the front door, dialling Peter's number before making it back to my car. “Were you able to find clues?” I asked impatiently, trying so hard to contain my anger.“Not yet. We just got access to the footage, though. I'll let you know if something comes up. Meanwhile, Mr Martins is st
James’s POVI didn't know which was worse after losing her. Meeting her again in another body or watching her drown in everything that could take her life away yet still be able to do nothing about it. She reminded me of her so much that now she was gone, and somehow, Ethan messed up, leaving Ava at this spot, everything felt like a miracle and a plan to make up for my long grief. However, she was dealing with a lot. Every time she came to work, I could just tell that she survived one thing or the other. I knew at some point I would be cautioned for trying to cross the line with the honourable Ava Scott, but just seeing her in that gown with the lights dimmed, ignited something in me. I had been afraid since she walked into Glint that she might undo the long spell and make me man again, and just as I predicted she did. She made my heart beat again. I could say I was the happiest man to exist at that moment, but then again, the fear of losing her again kicked in somewhere underneath t
