Chapter 5

“The Coraldes are behind it. I'm sure of it,” Ace said while we were in a meeting.

I was only staring at the presentation in front, sitting calmly on my swivel chair, while we were discussing and planning the things that will help us to go back on our own feet.

“We have a budget to cover the damages of the company,” Louis added.

A small smirk drew beside my lips. I quickly shook my head, disagreeing about that.

“We're not going to pay for it,” I said firmly.

Now, all their eyes were glued at me. “What are you planning?”

Ace knows me very well. He didn't have to ask what I exactly mean as he knows that I have a different plan.

“The Coraldes will pay for it. Three million is enough,” my brows raised as I glanced at the pictures of our company. It was a total mess and damaged when the attack happened.

“Idiots,” I muttered. “They really thought that I was there?” I chuckled unbelievably.

“They want your head. What do you expect? Of course they will do everything to kill you in order to erase this clan,” Louis shook his head.

“Whatever. Satan is my best friend, they wouldn't be able to kill me.” I stood up from my chair and wore my coat, hanging on the chair. I grabbed my glasses and wore them as well.

I am wearing a white tube inside my black coat, paired with my black slacks and heels.

“Where are you going now?” Ace asked immediately.

“To make the Coraldes pay their debt,” Nathan handed me a gun and I blew it in front of them.

“Are you fucking serious?” Louis asked immediately. He looked stunned as if he couldn't believe that I am really going there right now.

“Are you belittling me, Louis?”

“Of course, she's fucking serious.” Ace chuckled before he grabbed his gun as well.

“They attacked us first, I should avenge our clan now. That's how it works for us,” I shrugged before I drew a sly smirk.

I went out of the room together with them behind me, looking obnoxious and fierce, having no fear of being seen on my face.

“Chase is here,” Ace whispered behind me, which was the reason why my eyes landed in the living room.

Chase Montereal, my newly hired bodyguard, is here already. What surprised me is that he's talking with my father who seems to be having fun.

“Your Dad is laughing,” Louis uttered while we were all staring at the two of them. They don't look like strangers at all. They both look like close friends who already know each other for a few years.

I froze right there. I could not take my eyes off them. We know my father very well. He doesn't speak with anyone casually in one snap. What did Chase do to make him feel comfortable with him?

“Don't tell me he trusts him already?” Ace cackled.

I kept my silence as I went towards them.

“Well, I could say that your Uncle is really fighting. You know, no one ever defeated my daughter,”

I cleared my throat, which made them throw their eyes at me.

“Adira, are you going somewhere?” His eyes now scanned Louis, Nathan and Ace behind me. I could say that in one glance, he already knew that we were going to attack.

“Yeah. I have to collect the payment from the debts of the Coraldes to us,” I glanced at Chase immediately. I was trying to enter the wall he built from his eyes. For the first time, I could not read him. I could not identify what was running through his head and what kind of person he was.

“Careful,” my Dad said in a lower voice. “Bring Chade with you. He's a good fighter. I'm sure he can protect you.”

“As if I need that,” I mumbled sarcastically.

“You need it,” I rolled my eyes as I heaved a sigh.

“Whatever. Nathan, give me daggers. Give Chase a gun, too.” I glanced at him for a second before I shifted my eyes to the daggers that Nathan handed me immediately.

“Do you know how to use this?” I asked Chase beside me.

“Yeah. My Uncle taught me everything," now, I couldn't help but be curious about his Uncle who taught him everything.

“See? He's a good one,” my Dad was wearing that smile filled with admiration towards this guy. I don't know what Chase did to him to make him trust him easily.

“We're leaving. Make sure to tighten the security,” I said aloud to our men.

They bowed their heads as a sign of their answer.

“Adira, wait. Where are we going to attack them? We can't just attack their territory, it's like entering the cave of enemies unprepared. We will all die, Adira.” Louis, he never changed. He's still overthinking every time.

“Who said that we are not prepared?” I wore a sly smirk once again. I never came unprepared to the cave of my enemies. I am not that stupid to attack recklessly.

“What do you mean?”

“I planned everything, Louis. Since the day they started their plan to erase us, I began to move my fingers, too.”

“Why didn't I know about this?” Ace was surprised as well.

I ignored that. “I have our men inside their base. Don't worry, we're not going to erase them at once. It is too impossible. We're going there to make them compensate with what they have destroyed,” I clarified as I brushed the side of my hair.

I froze when I found Chase eyeing me as if he was amused. What the hell?

He looked away immediately as if he was embarrassed that I caught him. What was that?

“Follow us. They told me that they are already prepared. The heir is the only one who's in their base,” Nathan said.

“What the heck? You know about it, too?” Louis asked with surprise.

Nathan simply shrugged.

“Come on, team. We have to go,” I headed straight inside the car. Chase followed me and sat in the passenger seat in front.

The whole time, I was staring at Chase. I am still not comfortable with him. I still feel like we don't know a huge part of him. My instincts have never failed me before.

“When we hear the gunshots, that's the time we go in.” Nathan said over the phone while we are already outside the base of the Coraldes, waiting for the signal of my men inside.

“Three…” I muttered.

“Two…” I grabbed my gun tightly.

“One,” right after I said that, gunshots filled the entire base of the Coraldes.

I quickly headed out of the car, together with my team.

“Just help us. You don't have to protect me,” I said to Chase.

“Bring me Calvin,” I ordered them. Calvin Coraldes, the heir of the Coraldes’ clan. He was the one who planned everything to erase us. Unfortunately, I already have my eyes on him before he could even succeed.

With my cold stares, I killed every person that I looked at. I shot all of them on their forehead, bull’s eye. When I attack with my gun, I make sure to aim for the head.

I chuckled when I blocked the man's hand, holding a sharp knife that I saw my reflection on its blade.

“Do you know why they fear me?” I smiled like a real damn devil.

I grabbed his wrist tightly until the knife fell from his grasp.

“Because I am the real devil in disguise,” I muttered before I shot him on his head.

I shut my eyes when I felt the blood sprinkled upon me. I smiled from ear to ear when I saw how it stained my white top inside my black coat.

“Adira!” I heard Ace shout from afar.

My lips parted when I almost faced the tip of another knife that was about to stab me. I didn't close my eyes, ready to accept the knife, not until a hand blocked it.

My lips parted when I saw who it was.

Chase.

Instead of me, the knife was pierced on his bare hand where I watched his blood drip. However, Chase didn't have any glimpse of pain, as if it was nothing at all.

Without any hesitation, he shot the guy on the head and the blood stained us again.

“Adira, we got him!” Louis shouted in front of the house.

Nathan was grabbing Calvin on his collar. They didn't touch him. They know very well that I must be the only one to touch and punish the target.

I pulled myself back to my senses and forgot about Chase. I walked towards him and stopped right in front of him.

“Hello, Calvin.” I greeted like a damn psycho.

“Fuck you,” he cursed. That made me extend my smile.

“Aren't you happy to see me? I thought you were looking for me?”

“What do you need? Are you going to kill me? You know you can't do that. It's not like your clan is stro—” before he could even finish his words, I slapped him on his left cheek. I made sure that it would hurt like hell.

“Once we manage to go back where we were, I will make sure to erade your clan first, Calvin.” I threatened.

“Don't worry,” I sighed and created a little space between us.

“I’m not here to kill you yet. I'm here to make you pay your debts,” he laughed so loud as if I said a joke.

“Debts? I don't owe you anything, Adira.”

“Really? Should we talk about it?” I placed the gun on his head and I witnessed how fear ran on his face.

What a coward. It's such a shame to have an heir like him.

“W-What do you want?!”

I knew that he would give in easily. “Pay everything you destroyed.”

“H-How much?!”

“Five million,” I changed my mind. Why would I ask him for only three million when I can take advantage of his weakness?

“Give it to her!” He ordered deafeningly. A few seconds later, a woman, who was shivering, came and handed me the bag of money.

“That's five million,” the woman uttered. I checked it inside, making sure thst it's real.

“Good boy,” I commented and pat hi head like a dog.

“Next time you attack, I'll make sure to end you life, Calvin. Try me,” until the end, I gave him my smirk before we left their base.

Chapter 30“I'm not marrying you,” I didn't know how I managed to look at him when I said those hurtful words. While staring at him, watching how he reacts, my heart was breaking into pieces. “I'm sorry, Otis.” That's all I could say. I don't want to break his heart, but I don't want to marry him, start a family with him, only to be lonely and lie to myself about what I really feel. “I don't want to live in regrets, Otis.” I looked away. “If I marry you, I'm sure that you will be a good husband. I already pictured you, treating me very well. But I also realized, what would I feel when that happens? Would I be happy in one roof with you? Perhaps, not… Because I do not feel anything for you, Otis. I love you, but as a friend.” “You'll learn to love me,” he said with strong desperation and determination. I could see pain running from his eyes but I can also see that he doesn't want to let me go that easily. “And if I don't?” I was killing myself every time I turned him down. “I don

  • Guarding Her Heart   Chapter 29

Chapter 29It was our last day in Pangasinan. As we spent our last night in the hotel, we decided to watch a movie together with lots of food. This time, I didn't let him cook. Instead, we just ordered. “I have a favor to ask you,” I uttered in the middle of the movie. His brows raised but his eyes remained on the television in front of us. He was indeed having fun with the movie that we are watching. “What is it?” He asked, while eating the chips. “Can we keep this a secret?” The moment I mentioned that, I captured his eyes immediately. His eyes turned at me and I saw questions that filled his eyes. Perhaps, he was confused why I wanted to hide our relationship. “Why? Do you plan to marry Otis?” He chuckled, still taking everything as a joke. “Of course not,” I heaved a sigh. “I just want to hide this from them first. You know, I haven't had a boyfriend before and I don't want to shock them. Besides, I have to talk to Otis first and clarify all the things,” I explained. I bit m

  • Guarding Her Heart   Chapter 28

Chapter 28I kissed him without any hesitation. It might be reckless of me, but I didn't care anymore. The moment I reached his lips beyond his tall height, I didn't think of anything. I disregard everything that matters. I disregard all my responsibilities in my hands. I only allowed myself to feel that moment—to enjoy that moment as we both shared another passionate kiss. I could not hear anything. I feel like we were deaf and we vanished from our worlds. I can't hear anything except from the loud beating of my chest. It happened so fast. I just found myself drowning from that kiss. My hands were wrapped on his nape and his hands were exploring my body simultaneously. “C-Chase,” I moaned. In a blink of an eye, I felt how he removed my bra as if it was just a piece of cake to him. I could say that he was an expert on these things. “Ohhh…” I kept moaning like an idiot. My eyes were closed with the sensation that was filling my system. I felt the cold wall as Chase pinned me there

  • Guarding Her Heart   Chapter 27

Chapter 27Dawn. What is special with my second name? People usually hate their second names because it's ugly. As for me, I hate it for a reason. I despise it for a reason. I was born at dawn, and my mother died at dawn. After her death, it's like the world took me the beauty of dawn to the point that I don't wanna see it anymore. “Dawn,” but what is this that I am feeling everytime Chase calls me by that name? Why is my chest pounding as if he erased the cruel history I had? It was like music to my ears. Everytime he utters it, it makes me forget everything—the pain. “Stop it,” I muttered and smirked. I came back staring at the sea as I heaved a heavy sigh. “What? It's a beautiful name, just like you.” My cheeks burned when he said that naturally as if there was nothing wrong to say it in front of me. “What is it that you like about me, Chase?” I suddenly got curious about that. I don't see anything special to me for him to fall for me. I'm just the heiress of the Sanchez, tryi

  • Guarding Her Heart   Chapter 26

Chapter 26I set up the table in silence. Chase was not talking as well after he told me not to marry Otis. I can feel the awkwardness that was invading the two of us. He served the food he cooked at the table and we started to eat together without saying a single word. We were crossing each other and looking away so fast. “Is it bad?” I was stunned when he finally broke the ice. I thought he's not gonna talk to me anymore. “Did I say that it's bad?” I sounded grumpy with that. I avoided his eyes to get rid of my conscience. “Look, I don't want you to feel like I am obliging you to like me, okay? I don't need you to give me an answer, too. If you will marry Otis, then I will accept it with all my hea—”“Shit, your saying a lot.” I complaint as I stood up since I'm done eating already. “I'm not marrying him,” I left him that answer before I started to clean some of the dishes. I couldn't help but to flash a huge smile when I saw how he was glued on his seat there as if he was still

  • Guarding Her Heart   Chapter 25

Chapter 25It was a very passionate kiss. I never flew over the moon, but I felt like I was flying around the world when I felt Chase invading my lips. “C-Chase,” I moaned when he sucked my lips and I felt his hands travelling around my body while I was pinned on the wall. I could not tell him to stop, because I know that if I do that, I will kill myself. My eyes remained closed and I felt like I lost all my strength with my legs trembling already. Beyond the air conditioner installed in the entire hotel room, I suddenly felt so hot. In every touch of his body and skin on my body, I am losing my mind; and in every movement of his tongue and lips, I am losing my soul. “W-What… are we doing?” I managed to utter despite the feeling of losing myself already. I felt so lost in the woods but wanting to be lost at the same time. He stopped, and that was when I opened my eyes. Our eyes met immediately, and I knew that those seducing stares were melting me away. His forehead landed on mine
