Chapter 8
“OUCH! WHAT THE HELL?!” Ace creamed deafeningly after I kicked his stomach. I was covered with sweat under the rays of the sun from above, chasing my breath. We are in the garden, doing training. I have to work myself out with the upcoming Mask Battle. “I am your brother!” He exclaimed again, still lying down on the ground, with his hand placed on his stomach. His face was crumpled, greeting his teeth simultaneously. “I got carried away,” I replied as I grabbed the bottled water on the table. I sat there for a while and hid from the sun. “Really? Look at Nathan,” Louis commented and showed me Nathan's face. I bit my lower lip and shrugged. “I was sure that my fist landed gently.” “It surely didn't,” Nathan uttered. “I have to train myself harder. As you said, that battle is not easy. Whoever would be my opponent, I have to win no matter what if I still want to live.” That battle should never be my death. “I give up. I don't want to be your punching bag for your preparation,” Ace glared at me and shook his head. “I know someone who can train you,” Louis muttered. The moment I saw how his eyes twinkled, I knew that I would not like his idea. For so many years that I have been with Louis, I know how his mind runs every time. “I don't like that look,” I was already warning him. “Spill it!” Ace pushed. “Him,” our eyes shifted to whom he was talking about. My lips parted when I saw the naive man standing a bit far from us in the garden. He's really doing his job well. That uniform isn't enough to hide those mad biceps and his broad chest. From here, I could vividly see his well-shaped jawline and his pointed nose. Damn, he really has the looks— not for a bodyguard, but for a model rather. This guy looks expensive. I shut my eyes firmly when I realized what I was thinking. What the hell? Am I praising his looks right now? Hell, no, Adira. “No,” I turned it down immediately. “What? But he's good!” Louis pouted in front of me, trying to convince me. “I agree. He defeated you once. He's perfect for the job,” Ace was on the same page, which pissed me off. “Don't tell me you agree, too?” I raised my brows at Nathan, but he still nodded at me. “It's still a no,” I said firmly, too hard to be persuaded by them. “Chase, come here!” “Hey, what are you doing?!” I panicked when I saw him walking towards us now. Why am I even panicking? My damn chest suddenly began to throb. “Yes? Do you need anything?” He politely asked. When that amusing smile flashed upon his lips, Louis almost lost his balance as he trembled in one snap. I smirked and shook my head when his lips parted as if he fell with one smile from Chase. “You're really a gay,” I heard Ace mumble. “My sister needs someone to train with her. There's this thing coming, a battle, you know? She has to win. I believe that you are perfect for the job,” Ace explained furtherly. “No need. I can handle it myself.” I remained firm, sticking with my decision. Damn. I still can't accept that this guy defeated me. I feel like he's trampling on my pride and belittling me. “Adira, seriously?” Louis rolled his eyes at me. “I can do that if Adira will agree,” now, his eyes turned at me, still wearing that damn amusing smile. I looked away immediately. Something inside my chest began to drum all of a sudden. Fuck. Why am I loving that smile? “Hey, that's not a bad idea. You said you're willing to do everything to win the battle, then why not agree with this one?” Ace whispered beside me, trying his best to lower his voice so Chase wouldn't hear him. “I know enough to win the Mask Battle, Ace. I don't need him,” I replied sharply. “This is for your own sake. If you cannot defeat him, that would be the same for the other Mafias, Adira. They can eat you alive,” I turned silent because of that. I glanced at Chase and he kept that amusing smile. “Please?” Ace gave me his puppy eyes. “Fine,” “Yes! Finally!” Louis. “Thank God,” Nathan mumbled. “When do we start?” Chase asked. I don't know if that smile was still genuine or if he is trying to play with me. “Tomorrow,” I replied shortly. “Be ready, I won't be easy on you this time.” I left him with my sharp stares before I walked away from there. In the afternoon, we had lunch together with my Dad, Louis, and Ace. I couldn't help but stare where my mother used to sit. I still long for her. I remember how he always sat there and flash us her lovely smile that could surely calm the table’s storm. “So, did Otis sign the papers?” My Dad asked. I was dozing off. Ace had to pinch me beside him for me to wake up from my senses. “Yeah,” I replied. “He will go to the company next week.” “Good. I think you should get close to him. Who knows? You two can end up being together,” Before I could even react, Louis and Ace coughed while eating. Ace even slammed his chest a bit, and wasn't expecting what my father said. “Dad, that's not gonna happen. Stop that dream,” I could not hide my irritation anymore. “I said who knows, Adira. You cannot say that. If you always work together, perhaps you can fall for him,” I shook my head immediately. “No way, I hate him.” We all stopped when I heard Chase chuckled a bit near me. When he realized that we were staring at him, he quickly stopped and cleared his throat. “What's the problem? Why do you hate him?” “He is annoying and arrogant,” I replied. “I hate men like him.” “I agree, Dad.” Ace winked at me as he helped me. “Still…it would be good to tie the knot with the Oliveros,” he chuckled. “Well, it's never gonna happen.” “Perhaps Otis’ twin, Dad.” I glared at Ace when he suggested that. What the hell? Why are they pushing me to that clan? They haven't even gained my trust yet. “Stop it. I will not marry any of them,” I stopped from eating. This topic is making me lose my appetite. “Fine, fine.” Ace chuckled. “Besides, I still don't trust him. That smile was deceiving,” I mentioned. I don't feel good about his vibe. It's telling me something that is dangerous about him. “He will soon gain your trust, dear.” I lost my hope to my father. He won't really stop pushing me to that Otis guy. “Dad, I only agree to this because we are in this situation. If not, I will never agree to join hands with him,” I only had no choice. “But he's handsome,” Louis commented. “Every man is handsome in your eyes,” Ace shook her head. “I'm telling the truth!” He exclaimed, defending Otis. “Then marry him, Louis.” “Girl, if I have a vagina, I will marry him immediately.” “Louis!” Ace shouted unbelievably. I was not surprised anymore. Louis always talks like that. “What? It's not like you're a kid, Ace!” He acted like flipping his hair even though he has a manly haircut. The next morning, I woke up at 4 am. I have to go workout and do stretching before I proceed with the training with Chase. I was expecting that he is not yet awake as I remember not telling him what time we will start. “Yes, that room, Ms. Adira.” One of my men said. They have schedules to make sure that the entire base is still guarded 24 hours. I walked towards the room where he told me Chase room is. I had to breathe heavily before I decided to knock. “Chase,” I called when no one responded. “Hey! Wake up! The training starts now,” I slammed the door a bit to wake him up, but no one opened the door. “Chase!” I heaved a heavy sigh. I hate waiting the most. I'm losing my patience in this kind of situation swiftly. “I'm coming in,” I muttered before I quickly opened the door, barging in. My brows crossed when I didn't find him on the bed. The bed was clean, there's no sign of someone who slept here. “Chase?” I called again. The deafening silence inside is eating me. “I should have not really agreed with this,” I said to myself and was about to turn my back. “Adira?” I froze like damn ice when I finally found the person that I was looking for. I felt like a statue, glued in that position. All of a sudden, my cheeks began to burn as my eyes traveled down on his body. Those abs sparkled right through my eyes, as if they were trying to captivate me. Chase is half-naked in front of me. In one snap, I feel like I'm losing my strength early in the morning. itsclarixassChapter 30“I'm not marrying you,” I didn't know how I managed to look at him when I said those hurtful words. While staring at him, watching how he reacts, my heart was breaking into pieces. “I'm sorry, Otis.” That's all I could say. I don't want to break his heart, but I don't want to marry him, start a family with him, only to be lonely and lie to myself about what I really feel. “I don't want to live in regrets, Otis.” I looked away. “If I marry you, I'm sure that you will be a good husband. I already pictured you, treating me very well. But I also realized, what would I feel when that happens? Would I be happy in one roof with you? Perhaps, not… Because I do not feel anything for you, Otis. I love you, but as a friend.” “You'll learn to love me,” he said with strong desperation and determination. I could see pain running from his eyes but I can also see that he doesn't want to let me go that easily. “And if I don't?” I was killing myself every time I turned him down. “I don
Chapter 29It was our last day in Pangasinan. As we spent our last night in the hotel, we decided to watch a movie together with lots of food. This time, I didn't let him cook. Instead, we just ordered. “I have a favor to ask you,” I uttered in the middle of the movie. His brows raised but his eyes remained on the television in front of us. He was indeed having fun with the movie that we are watching. “What is it?” He asked, while eating the chips. “Can we keep this a secret?” The moment I mentioned that, I captured his eyes immediately. His eyes turned at me and I saw questions that filled his eyes. Perhaps, he was confused why I wanted to hide our relationship. “Why? Do you plan to marry Otis?” He chuckled, still taking everything as a joke. “Of course not,” I heaved a sigh. “I just want to hide this from them first. You know, I haven't had a boyfriend before and I don't want to shock them. Besides, I have to talk to Otis first and clarify all the things,” I explained. I bit m
Chapter 28I kissed him without any hesitation. It might be reckless of me, but I didn't care anymore. The moment I reached his lips beyond his tall height, I didn't think of anything. I disregard everything that matters. I disregard all my responsibilities in my hands. I only allowed myself to feel that moment—to enjoy that moment as we both shared another passionate kiss. I could not hear anything. I feel like we were deaf and we vanished from our worlds. I can't hear anything except from the loud beating of my chest. It happened so fast. I just found myself drowning from that kiss. My hands were wrapped on his nape and his hands were exploring my body simultaneously. “C-Chase,” I moaned. In a blink of an eye, I felt how he removed my bra as if it was just a piece of cake to him. I could say that he was an expert on these things. “Ohhh…” I kept moaning like an idiot. My eyes were closed with the sensation that was filling my system. I felt the cold wall as Chase pinned me there
Chapter 27Dawn. What is special with my second name? People usually hate their second names because it's ugly. As for me, I hate it for a reason. I despise it for a reason. I was born at dawn, and my mother died at dawn. After her death, it's like the world took me the beauty of dawn to the point that I don't wanna see it anymore. “Dawn,” but what is this that I am feeling everytime Chase calls me by that name? Why is my chest pounding as if he erased the cruel history I had? It was like music to my ears. Everytime he utters it, it makes me forget everything—the pain. “Stop it,” I muttered and smirked. I came back staring at the sea as I heaved a heavy sigh. “What? It's a beautiful name, just like you.” My cheeks burned when he said that naturally as if there was nothing wrong to say it in front of me. “What is it that you like about me, Chase?” I suddenly got curious about that. I don't see anything special to me for him to fall for me. I'm just the heiress of the Sanchez, tryi
Chapter 26I set up the table in silence. Chase was not talking as well after he told me not to marry Otis. I can feel the awkwardness that was invading the two of us. He served the food he cooked at the table and we started to eat together without saying a single word. We were crossing each other and looking away so fast. “Is it bad?” I was stunned when he finally broke the ice. I thought he's not gonna talk to me anymore. “Did I say that it's bad?” I sounded grumpy with that. I avoided his eyes to get rid of my conscience. “Look, I don't want you to feel like I am obliging you to like me, okay? I don't need you to give me an answer, too. If you will marry Otis, then I will accept it with all my hea—”“Shit, your saying a lot.” I complaint as I stood up since I'm done eating already. “I'm not marrying him,” I left him that answer before I started to clean some of the dishes. I couldn't help but to flash a huge smile when I saw how he was glued on his seat there as if he was still
Chapter 25It was a very passionate kiss. I never flew over the moon, but I felt like I was flying around the world when I felt Chase invading my lips. “C-Chase,” I moaned when he sucked my lips and I felt his hands travelling around my body while I was pinned on the wall. I could not tell him to stop, because I know that if I do that, I will kill myself. My eyes remained closed and I felt like I lost all my strength with my legs trembling already. Beyond the air conditioner installed in the entire hotel room, I suddenly felt so hot. In every touch of his body and skin on my body, I am losing my mind; and in every movement of his tongue and lips, I am losing my soul. “W-What… are we doing?” I managed to utter despite the feeling of losing myself already. I felt so lost in the woods but wanting to be lost at the same time. He stopped, and that was when I opened my eyes. Our eyes met immediately, and I knew that those seducing stares were melting me away. His forehead landed on mine
Chapter 24“I'm kidnapping you!” My jaw dropped when he said that and drove the car so fast. He's what?“Stop this now, Chase! You don't know what you're doing! Otis is waiting for me!” I keep shouting at him but no matter what I say and do, Chase has made his decision and it cannot be shaken. He didn't listen to me until I lost my hope and chose to be silent in the backseat. “They will look for me,” I uttered behind him. I don't know if I want this to happen or not. For some reason, I felt like staying there and being kidnapped by him is the good option to escape all of this. “Where are we going? Answer me, Chase!” I hit the back of his seat again but he remained unbothered. He really treated me like a damn wind until we arrived at our destination that I don't know. I fell asleep on the way. When I woke up, I heard the roaring of the sea. My lips immediately parted when I saw the sea outside. I found Chase sitting in front of the car while watching the water. “Chase!” I exclaim
Chapter 23I had already accepted my fate. Every night, I am trying to picture myself marrying Otis and starting a family with him. I know to myself that my heart is against it, but I have left with no choice. “You're meeting his family tonight?” Louis asked while we were in the middle of eating our breakfast.“Tell me if you need anything,” Ace said beside me, still worried about me. Weeks have passed and he's finally here with us. Dad didn't notice any bruises or wounds from him. He didn't know anything about what really happened. “I'm sure they will like you. Besides, you and Otis have been hanging out. Do you have feelings for him now?” I hate to ruin that huge smile from my father's smile. He looks so happy just by hearing about my upcoming wedding with Otis. How can I mess it up when he is this happy? “Not yet,” I moved my eyes away. I don't want him to see how much I am forced to do this. “Well, when you are married, you will learn to love each other.” I hope that is how i
Chapter 22Chase’s POV “Oliver, calm down! You can't just come here like this!” Jaylor kept calling me while I was taking huge steps, entering the building of Otis’ condominium.“Open the goddamn door, Otis!” I growled like a beast while I was slamming the door really hard. If he doesn't open this yet, I will probably break this. “You're making a scene, Oliver!” Jaylor exclaimed, but I was too deaf to hear him out. “OTIS!” The door opened and I finally saw my damn twin brother. His brows met when he saw me outside.“What do you need?” He asked coldly. “You,” “OLIVER!”I quickly threw a punch at him as I barged inside his condo. His eyes became sharp after what I did. “What the fuck is your problem?!” Before he could even punch me back, I punched him again, making his lips drip red fluid even more.I grabbed his collar as I pinned him on the wall. “Why did you ask her to marry you, huh?! What the fuck are you thinking?!” I was fuming mad. I could not even tame the beast inside
