 Evelyn’s POV

Two weeks passed like water.

I ate proper meals. I slept full nights. I read company reports until my eyes ached, and I walked the halls of Williams Global headquarters with Anthony beside me, learning every floor, every department, every face.

The woman in the mirror began to change. Color returned to my cheeks. My hair grew shinier. I held my shoulders back instead of hunching them forward like I was trying to disappear. I was becoming myself again, or maybe becoming the person I never had the chance to be.

And tonight was the night the world would meet her.

Mirabel arrived at five o'clock with three garment bags and a case full of makeup.

"I have waited three years for this moment," she said, unzipping the first bag to reveal a deep emerald gown. "You are going to walk into that room and every person there is going to choke on their champagne."

"I do not want anyone choking."

"I want them to choke. Specifically the ones with the last name Valentine." She held the dress up against me and nodded. "This one. No question."

I dressed slowly, carefully, like putting on armor. The gown was fitted, elegant, with a high neckline and an open back. My hair was swept up. Diamond earrings from my mother's collection. A thin gold chain at my throat.

When I looked in the mirror, the woman who stared back was no one's invisible wife. She was no one's servant. She was no one's afterthought.

"Ready?" Anthony appeared in the doorway, dressed in a sharp black suit.

"Ready."

The gala was held at the Grand Meridian Hotel, a towering glass building in central London. Seven hundred guests. Press lining the entrance. Camera flashes bursting like small explosions in the night.

We entered through a private side entrance. Anthony guided me through a service corridor toward the main ballroom.

"Nervous?" he asked.

"No."

"Good. Because Richard is here. Table twelve. Tonia is with him."

I said nothing.

The ballroom was stunning. Gold and white, with massive floral arrangements and a live orchestra. Crystal glasses clinked. Laughter floated. London's richest circled one another like planets in orbit.

I stayed in the wings, waiting. The chairman of the board, a silver-haired man named Samuel, took the stage at half past eight.

"Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining us tonight. Williams Global has been synonymous with innovation for four decades. And tonight, it is my great honor to introduce the next chapter of that legacy. The sole heir to the Williams empire, and our incoming CEO, Miss Evelyn Williams."

The room erupted in murmurs. I stepped onto the stage.

Seven hundred faces turned toward me. Camera flashes exploded. I scanned the crowd and found table twelve without effort.

Richard was there. His champagne glass was frozen halfway to his lips. His face was blank, completely blank, like his mind had stopped working.

Beside him, Tonia gripped the edge of the table with white fingers. And Sylvia, who sat at the same table in a silver dress, pressed a hand over her mouth.

I smiled. Not for them. For myself.

"Thank you, Samuel. And thank you all for being here tonight." My voice was clear and strong through the microphone. "I know many of you are surprised. I have been away for some time, attending to personal matters. But I am here now. And I look forward to building the future of Williams Global with each of you."

Applause filled the room. Genuine, warm, curious.

I stepped down from the stage. People surrounded me immediately. Handshakes. Introductions. Questions I deflected with practiced grace.

But I kept one eye on table twelve.

Richard was standing now. He said something to Tonia without looking at her and began moving through the crowd toward me. Guests parted for him without realizing they were doing it. He moved like a man possessed.

I turned to meet him when he reached me. We stood face to face, barely two feet apart, surrounded by hundreds of people and yet completely alone.

"Evelyn." His voice was low, rough, like he had swallowed glass. "All this time. You... this is who you are?"

"This is who I have always been."

"Why?" The word came out strangled. "Why did you hide this from me?"

"Would it have changed anything?"

He opened his mouth, closed it, opened it again.

"You married me knowing you were..." He could not finish.

"I married you because I loved you, Richard. Not because of money. Not because of names." I held his gaze without blinking. "But you never once asked who I was. You never once cared enough to look."

His jaw clenched. His eyes burned with something I had never seen before. Shame, maybe. Or the sharp, terrible beginning of regret.

"Evelyn, I..."

"Do not," I said softly. "Not here. Not tonight."

I turned away from him. The crowd swallowed me again, warm and welcoming.

And Richard stood alone in the middle of seven hundred people, watching me disappear into a life he could not reach, his hands hanging at his sides, trembling.

(Richard’s POV)I did not sleep that night.By seven in the morning, I was at the Valentine Industries headquarters. The office was empty; it was Sunday. I sat at my desk with Evelyn’s sketchbook open in front of me and pulled up every project file from the past three years. One by one, I compared them. The sketchbook designs matched the final project files perfectly. But the project files listed Tonia as the lead designer. Her name was on every single one.I called my assistant, Victor, who answered with the groggy irritation of a man woken on his day off.“Victor, I need the original submission records for Project Aurora. Who sent the initial files?”“Sir, it is Sunday.”“I am aware. The records, Victor. Now.”He grumbled but complied. Twenty minutes later, my inbox pinged.I opened the file. The original submission came from an encrypted email under the alias “V. Sterling.” No personal details. No phone number. No address. Just a portfolio of work so brilliant that I had hired the

(Richard's POV)I stood in the middle of the ballroom like a man who had been shot and had not yet realized he was bleeding.Evelyn Williams. My wife. My quiet, invisible, obedient wife was the heir to the largest corporation in Britain.People moved around me, laughing, talking, clinking glasses. The music played on. The world continued spinning as if nothing had changed. But everything had changed. Everything.I excused myself from the gala early. Tonia followed me to the car, her heels clicking fast on the pavement."Richard, you cannot let this rattle you. So she has money. So what? It does not change what she is.""What she is?" I turned on her so suddenly that she stumbled back a step. "What she is? She is the heir to a fifty-billion-pound company, Tonia. She was my wife for three years and I did not know.""Because she lied to you! She tricked you!" Tonia's voice was high, frantic. "She is manipulative, Richard. Why else would she hide something like that unless she was playing

  • HE DIVORCED THE RICHEST WOMAN ALIVE   Chapter 3: THE WILLIAMS MANSION

I ran through the front doors of the Williams estate before the car fully stopped. The house was enormous, white marble and glass, the kind of home that appeared in magazines. I grew up here. I took my first steps on these floors. But today I could not see any of it. I could only see the hallway leading to my father’s room.“Where is he?” I grabbed the arm of the nearest staff member.“The master bedroom, Miss Williams. The doctor is with him.”I took the stairs two at a time, Anthony behind me. When I pushed open the bedroom door, my father was sitting up in bed with an oxygen tube in his nose, arguing with a doctor.“I told you I am fine. Get that thing off my face.”“Father.” My voice cracked.Benjamin Williams turned his head and saw me. His face changed. The stubbornness melted away, and his eyes, my eyes, the same brown, went soft and full.“There she is,” he whispered. “My girl.”I crossed the room and fell into his arms. He smelled like cedar and old books and home. His hand p

  • HE DIVORCED THE RICHEST WOMAN ALIVE   Chapter 2: THE COURTHOUSE

The courthouse smelled like old paper and floor polish.I arrived at eight forty-five, wearing a simple dress and no makeup. My reflection in the glass doors looked thin and pale, and for a moment I did not recognize myself. Three years of barely eating, barely sleeping, and barely existing had carved me down to something fragile. That was going to change.I sat on a wooden bench outside the registrar’s office and folded my hands in my lap. My fingers felt strange without the ring. Lighter. Freer. At nine fifteen, Richard walked in.He wore a charcoal suit that fit him like it was stitched onto his body. His jaw was tight, his eyes cold, and he moved through the corridor like a man being forced to waste his time. When he saw me on the bench, he did not greet me. He simply stood in front of me and looked down.“You actually came,” he said.“You sound surprised.”“I assumed you would change your mind overnight.” He adjusted his cuff. “People say things they do not mean when they are emo

Evelyn's POV “Here comes the beauty with a brain…with standing ovation, join me to welcome this elegant and gorgeous woman. Who has an outstanding skill that no one can match”. The gala host exclaimed. The woman walking up to the stage was wearing my smile, accepting my award, and holding my husband's hand.I sat on the edge of our empty bed, watching the live stream on my phone. The company gala glittered with champagne and chandeliers, and at the center of it all stood Tonia, her red dress catching the light as Richard placed a crystal trophy in her hands."For her extraordinary vision on Project Aurora," Richard said into the microphone, his voice smooth and certain. "Tonia has single-handedly redefined what Valentine Industries can achieve."The audience clapped. Tonia pressed a hand to her chest like she could not believe her own brilliance. Richard smiled at her…A real smile. The kind he had never once given me in three years. My stomach turned, not from jealousy. From the trut
