LOGINThree hours later
I woke up miserably to the sterile antiseptic that sent a sharp, uninviting scent to my nostrils. My eyes fluttered open to the soft beep of a machine monitor. A translucent IV line snaked from my arm to a hanging bag of fluid, and my body felt mercilessly heavy, wrapped in bandages around my bloodied, stained head. The pain was sharp like broken glass shards, and my memory still felt blurry. It was trying to remember something tragic. I blinked slowly, adjusting to the sterile light, and felt the weight of healing … of survival. “What happened?” I muttered, scanning through my environment like a lost, confused cub looking for its mother. The white sheets lay under me, soft and warm. “You’re safe now,” my ears twitched to that sound. That voice was strikingly recognizable. I didn’t flinch. Instead, I lifted my weak head slowly, meeting the man who had been locked up in the back of my mind like a prisoner. Jayden!!! I blinked twice, staring at him like I had just seen a ghost. It was a dashing figure, appearing before me in a long, white, flowing gown. Maybe an angel, if I wasn’t mistaken. “Impossible. How…? When did you…?” He smiled, cutting in between my words. “I came in two days ago, Nyra.” “I’m happy to see you again. You’re still as gorgeous as ever.” He cooed at me. Was he kidding me? I was a complete shadow of myself… a mockery. I never imagined that I would see Jayden again. It’s been a complete seven good years since Zarina and I heard of him. And now he appears before me looking all handsome and manlier. Growth and puberty did quite a fantastic change in him. I was highly impressed. My lips had parted to respond when the TV screen flashed a bold headline: ‘Billionaire Heiress, Ms Nyra Harassed by a Drunk VIP Guest in Exclusive Lounge... identity still unknown.’ That’s not what happened. That bastard had tipped those hungry bartenders, not to mention his name, but mine. He also had someone blur out his face. “What happened to you? Who was that man? Did he do all these to you?” “First of… how did I get here? And what’re you… doing here… dressed in a white coat?” I cut in. “You were brought in yesterday night, past nine,” he replied. “One of the cleaners found you lying lifelessly on the cold ground, barely breathing.” “He suspected you were in danger because you took so long inside the room. But I’m sorry… he couldn’t say the culprit’s name.” I heaved a sigh of relief after Jayden told me what happened. I was grateful to whoever he was. Without his help, I could have been dead by now. “Nyra, what were you doing there alone? Draven shouldn’t have let you go all by yourself.” He paused, his deep blue eyes narrowing. “Where is he?” The way he looked at me… it was like he could see everything I was trying to hide. He continued. “Two weeks ago, I got a text from her… Zarina, about your wedding. By the way, I just wanna tell you— congratulations, Nyra” He flashed a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. His teeth were perfect, but something behind them felt cold. It felt like it. Maybe I saw it wrong. Or it could be the medications messing with my brain. Just then, the door went wide open, revealing Zarina running towards me, circling me in her arms. Her soft blonde strands of hair fell over me like a comforting veil. “I warned you not to go there, Nyra. You’re so stubborn. You don’t listen to anyone but yourself,” she bristled, checking me out like I just stepped out of a time healing machine. “He did this to you… Draven? That asshole will pay dearly.” “No… Zar.” I gave her a pleading eye not to drag this further. Jayden was here listening to our conversation. It felt embarrassing for me. “Don’t try to defend him this time. I shouldn’t have let you go there alone. Anything could have happened; you could have been dead.” “What about the cops? Was he apprehended?” I nodded. “No! His name wasn’t disclosed. Besides, I was told that they found me lying unconscious on the floor… naked.” I dragged that last part slowly and quietly. “He was too fast for me. I couldn't escape in time,” I held my bandaged head, flickering back to the memory. At last, it was over… for a while. We heard a sudden cough from behind. Jayden was standing there, unintentionally eavesdropping on our conversation. Gosh! It felt embarrassing. Their eyes found each other, lingering longer than expected. Zarina hadn’t seen Jayden since he vanished… no calls, no messages, just silence. “Hi, Zarina… It’s good to see you again.” “Yeah… same… Jay,” she replied. Her eyes met mine for a second. For a moment, I saw a flicker of pain and sadness that felt like a lost treasure kept in a golden chest, hidden inside a deep cave. Jayden was cool, but it still couldn't conceal the glint of buried affection that escaped his pretty eyes. I’ve always felt they kept secrets tucked away in the deep shallows… secrets the world should never know. Not even me. But what was it?{NYRA} Now that Jayden was out of the house. I could breathe well without having him all around my skin like roses laid across my chest, fragrant but crushing under their weight. A subconscious smile played across my lips as I remembered what he said to me. “Why can't you call me husband?” You should have seen how miserable his face was. Despite the gloomy face he wore, it couldn't beat how effortlessly charming he looked. These days, Jayden and I have been closer. Not very well but close enough to understand each other. Calling him my husband would mean— laying out my heart in the entire basket for him to squash. For a reason, I couldn't risk that. Not when I haven't found out his main purpose behind getting married to me. Every day I blamed myself for giving in due to desperation. It was a very reckless decision from both of us. I sighed with mixed feelings. “I hope I don't regret all these later on.” “I'm so scared, Jayden… I wish you could see that.”
{JAYDEN}Believe me, I got really anxious about the whole surprise. My mind kept bugging me about Nyra not liking it.But I was proved wrong. The way she gasped told me she liked it. That left a passing mark in my ears.“Jayden this is—”Her voice sounded croaky like she was about to cry. “Are you crying, cupcake?” I asked even though I knew the answer.I spiraled to meet her. Our faces collided like two birds flying in the sky. These days, ever since we married, I couldn't seem to keep my hands off her. I promised her that I wouldn't touch her. Yet— it sounded difficult for me. But I'm fucking doing my best not to scare her away. I just hope that someday— she will let me fully in. I couldn't fucking wait. She turned her face away from me. Not letting me see the tears that slipped out of the corners of her eyes. “No—”“Funny girl,” I stifled a laugh to myself. It was evident in her voice.“You are,” I whispered. I tilted her face to meet me again. “Jayden…” She gave a half smile
{NYRA}*Three Days Later*I was back at Jayden’s house with a new life and a hope to build my passions. Nothing was stopping me now. It's been three days since the bathroom incident with Jayden. I’ve been a little distant from him. And cautious.Didn't want to get too comfortable with him.And also, for both of us to live peacefully together— I planned on drafting out a contract agreement for him to sign on. He doesn't know that yet. I just needed to think of what to write on it. The worst part! Jayden ordered that we were to sleep on the same bed together as a married couple. “Look, Nyra. I promised that I won't touch you. That doesn't mean that we can't share the same bed?”The despair clouded his tone.“What about the staff in the house? We said we would keep it a secret from everyone.”Hell! I remembered how concerned etched across my forehead the morning we arrived. And when it was time for us to sleep at night—Luckily for me— Jayden’s staff had gone on a break and would ar
{NYRA}I thought I would have a panic attack right there in the bathroom when I saw him close to me.“Dear lord,” I whispered to myself. I placed my hands on my neck, breathing fast like a victim running away from danger.Actually— he was. A big danger to me. Like speed, I dried myself up and unlocked the door. But I peeped to check if the coast was clear. Jayden wasn't around the bed. He was at the door, speaking to the room service and a female. “Thank goodness,” I stepped outside and went to pick up my damped cloth with the towel wrapped tightly around my body.I was on a mission— not to get seen by Jayden. About wearing the rumpled wet dress back on my body. I noticed he was still standing outside. Half naked. He didn't wear his shirt. He was at the door entrance talking. Only god knew what the discussion was about.Normally, I wouldn't care. I was good at minding my business. The second time, I heard the voice speaking. A lady. I recognized it to be the female receptioni
{JAYDEN}We eventually got to the reception. The hotel wasn't as bad as it appeared from the outside. It wasn't crowded either, just as I wanted. I went straight to the lady. Fair skin, a short height of about 5.4 inches, and blonde shoulder-length hair. Every woman I had a thing with was mostly blonde. Two were brunette if I could remember correctly. “Good evening, Sir. Ace hotel is at your service,” she smiled pleasantly at me. She was beautiful. Her smiles could lure weak men into her bed. I know her type. She wasn't a match for someone who had been in the game long enough.“My wife and I would like the best room here. Which one is suitable for us? I want her to get comfortable with me at night.”Her face dropped. The smug smile was swept off her face and was replaced with disappointment. She thought I had come in here alone. “Oh! There are two rooms of your preference, sir.”“Room 345 and 326. They are upstairs on the left.”Nyra stood beside me with no clue of the heat bet
{NYRA}Now we are heading back to Jayden’s house. His friend, Massimo, I think had already left. From what I gathered from Jayden. They were both best friends in high school and have known each other forever. “What about your car?” My brows knitted together in annoyance when I saw him order another cab. With the experience from the last one— I didn't want another nosy driver intruding in my space. The last thing I wanted was for anyone to ask silly questions or throw assumptions when they see us together.I also needed to get fucking rid of this gown off my body. It was causing a lot of distractions. “For now, Nyra— we can't, until we get home. We have to be careful, remember?”He stared at me. His eyes were soft like a fluffy feather, boring into my soul until it cost my breath to weaken. God! I couldn't take my gaze off him. Jayden wasn't doing anything, but his soft blue eyes did something. The night was intoxicated with sin and lust. I didn't want to be part of it.“I rememb
