“Looks like you two need some catching up to do,” I chipped in worriedly, after breaking the long silence between us. Zarina had gone by that time… to get me beverages and drugs prescribed by Jayden, my attending doctor. Even better, he made me realize that he was not only a doctor but a successful, renowned cardiac surgeon. It was amazing to think about how he managed to accomplish such incredible news in such a brief period. “Yeah, I know… she looked shocked to see me again,” he sighed, rubbing the side of his temple. Those little acts of his showcased his flawless, tanned skin. His brown hair, styled backwards. He had a little mole on the lower side of his rosy lips, revealing his sexy, carved, full dark brows and scanty long lashes. Jayden was tall back then, but now… he was six feet taller. His white coat could barely reach below his feet. Beside him, I was just a pea-sized doll. Thankfully, I wasn’t short either. “You disappeared without a trace… remember? You left her alone.” “I’ll make it up to Zarina… when I see her again,” he glanced at me, his hands in pocket, watching me like I was some kind of fairytale princess who escaped Disneyland. “Is there something on my face?” I held a confused look. What was he so amused about that he had to keep staring? There wasn’t any live circus to watch on my pathetic face. He scratched the back of his neck, smiling sheepishly, “You haven’t changed a bit. Still much more beautiful since I last saw you at the Halloween night party.” I narrowed my eyes. “You were there? How come I never noticed? I thought you were at the boarding school then.” “Back then, you failed to notice me… I wonder if you will now,” “Huh, what did you say?” I asked, staring at him. He exhaled. “It’s nothing… never mind.” I became slightly curious to know what Jayden means. I brooded inwardly, “What was he trying to tell me?” That was when my mom made an entrance inside the hospital to see me. She threw a dramatic yet stylish grand gesture into my room. Accompanied by two women. Sometimes I wondered how she met my dad. She was young, vibrant, energetic, and a flawless beauty queen who stirs men to her side. Not just once, but thrice. Well, don’t get me wrong, Dad was exceptionally handsome. Just that… he was too ambitious and controlling for a kind of woman, like my mother. Aside from his attitude and power freak kind of nature, he was good to me. Not the kind of best man you would have. At least he gave me a name. I was grateful for that. “Hi, mother,” I greeted formally. I wasn’t expecting her to come visit me at the hospital. I was certain she saw the news. Jayden had already made his way out of the room after greeting her. Thankfully, he understood the word ‘privacy’. “I brought them here to style your hair and glow your battered, gorgeous face, sweetheart.” Her lips curved into a smile, but suspiciously cunning like a thief. “Why? But I’m much better this way. I don’t need any makeover or a hairdo, Mom,” I shot her a glare. “Oh, you poor little thing. Come here,” she said, sitting beside my bed, embracing me in her arms. This is new. “You’re not fine. Look at you. They’ve been starving you here. I’m going to sue this place.” Wait! Was this my mom? She seemed so… different. It felt off and weird. My mom never had the time to be affectionate towards me. She had always loved her glamorous lifestyle, and ever since I turned fourteen, she would leave me with the nannies alone in the big mansion to party and go on trips that would sometimes last a week. I had grown accustomed to my lonely, miserable life. I didn’t want to ruin the moment, so I waited for her to be done. “Mom… are you alright?” She laughed in a high-pitched tone, “I’m fine, what makes you say so?” “Nothing,” I shook my head. “You saw the news. Is that why you came?” I hoped that her answer would be yes. That… maybe she cared about me after all. “Ahh, yes, I forgot. We shouldn’t keep the two ladies on their feet, sweetheart. Let’s glow you up a bit,” my question was ignored. Just like always. But I was used to it. “I don’t need any makeup, I’m fine, Mom. Besides, I’m in the hospital. Couldn’t you find a better time to do this?” She threw an unpleasant glance at me, “Don’t be silly, child. You’ll do as you are told. Think about your father’s reputation.” So this was about him again. “Quick. Stop talking and stay still for them to do their jobs. And everything will be just fine,” she smiled, hoping her words were enough to convince me. At some point, it did. And soon, they were done turning me into one of the beautiful models you see on shows. It was too perfect that the marks on my face that I had gotten from the assault were no longer visible. In just an hour… I was transformed. My mom heaved a sigh of relief, satisfied by layers of touches on me, “Finally, this won’t give them any story to talk about.” I went still, brows furrowed and palms sweaty like I had run a marathon race, “What?” “What the hell are you talking about, Mom?” Her face turned in my direction, like a child caught in mischief. “Well, your dad and I couldn't let them storm in here… seeing you pathetic like this. I mean… What will the public say? Think about it.” I was in shock. She continued. “We paid a huge sum of money for the video to be brought down. Your shame was adding much popularity to the internet.” “Be glad we did what you couldn’t do. If you had just shut up and tried not to act so self-righteous and, you know, marry Draven… we won’t be in this mess.” “It’s your fault. And your dad is furious. So please, Nyra… when they arrive, we need you to put on the best act. Okay?” She squeezed my hands. In thirty minutes, the reporters came crowding the entire space. Some stood outside the building, ready to hunt for anything that would cause a tremendous headline. Both small and big looking mean mics gawked at me, desperately waiting for one word. The phones and live cameras were ready to run. “Ms. Kingswell, there was a raw footage of you with a man at the lounge area,” one of them, who had stylish pants with a creamy white shirt on, complimenting his grumpy face, fired at me. Out of the rest, he sounded like he had been in the game longer. “Just recently… You left Mr. Draven at the altar with no explanations. And it was also claimed that a lady who had your resemblance had a conflict with a man precisely yesterday night.” “We believe he was your newfound lover you recently met.” Okay, I was starting to hate him. He added again, eyes fixed on me, impatiently keening for an answer. “Some assumptions are flying in the air that you went there to have some fun, and unfortunately, things got brutal with your new lover, thereby landing you… Here in this hospital.” “Which to me… You look fine,” his dark, ugly eyes thrust a sharp dagger into mine as he completely disagreed with the façade I wore. “The public is eager to know if the woman in the video is you or someone else.” To be honest… I wasn't expecting that kind of cunning and vile question. Fuck the rumours and the harsh comments. I couldn't care less about their twisted lies. But… my parents. I was terrified of ending up on their blacklist. I understood the gravity… the truth would cost me my entire existence. At this point, I was lost between protecting the little peace I had with them and keeping a brave face.{NYRA} Now that Jayden was out of the house. I could breathe well without having him all around my skin like roses laid across my chest, fragrant but crushing under their weight. A subconscious smile played across my lips as I remembered what he said to me. “Why can't you call me husband?” You should have seen how miserable his face was. Despite the gloomy face he wore, it couldn't beat how effortlessly charming he looked. These days, Jayden and I have been closer. Not very well but close enough to understand each other. Calling him my husband would mean— laying out my heart in the entire basket for him to squash. For a reason, I couldn't risk that. Not when I haven't found out his main purpose behind getting married to me. Every day I blamed myself for giving in due to desperation. It was a very reckless decision from both of us. I sighed with mixed feelings. “I hope I don't regret all these later on.” “I'm so scared, Jayden… I wish you could see that.”
{JAYDEN}Believe me, I got really anxious about the whole surprise. My mind kept bugging me about Nyra not liking it.But I was proved wrong. The way she gasped told me she liked it. That left a passing mark in my ears.“Jayden this is—”Her voice sounded croaky like she was about to cry. “Are you crying, cupcake?” I asked even though I knew the answer.I spiraled to meet her. Our faces collided like two birds flying in the sky. These days, ever since we married, I couldn't seem to keep my hands off her. I promised her that I wouldn't touch her. Yet— it sounded difficult for me. But I'm fucking doing my best not to scare her away. I just hope that someday— she will let me fully in. I couldn't fucking wait. She turned her face away from me. Not letting me see the tears that slipped out of the corners of her eyes. “No—”“Funny girl,” I stifled a laugh to myself. It was evident in her voice.“You are,” I whispered. I tilted her face to meet me again. “Jayden…” She gave a half smile
{NYRA}*Three Days Later*I was back at Jayden’s house with a new life and a hope to build my passions. Nothing was stopping me now. It's been three days since the bathroom incident with Jayden. I’ve been a little distant from him. And cautious.Didn't want to get too comfortable with him.And also, for both of us to live peacefully together— I planned on drafting out a contract agreement for him to sign on. He doesn't know that yet. I just needed to think of what to write on it. The worst part! Jayden ordered that we were to sleep on the same bed together as a married couple. “Look, Nyra. I promised that I won't touch you. That doesn't mean that we can't share the same bed?”The despair clouded his tone.“What about the staff in the house? We said we would keep it a secret from everyone.”Hell! I remembered how concerned etched across my forehead the morning we arrived. And when it was time for us to sleep at night—Luckily for me— Jayden’s staff had gone on a break and would ar
{NYRA}I thought I would have a panic attack right there in the bathroom when I saw him close to me.“Dear lord,” I whispered to myself. I placed my hands on my neck, breathing fast like a victim running away from danger.Actually— he was. A big danger to me. Like speed, I dried myself up and unlocked the door. But I peeped to check if the coast was clear. Jayden wasn't around the bed. He was at the door, speaking to the room service and a female. “Thank goodness,” I stepped outside and went to pick up my damped cloth with the towel wrapped tightly around my body.I was on a mission— not to get seen by Jayden. About wearing the rumpled wet dress back on my body. I noticed he was still standing outside. Half naked. He didn't wear his shirt. He was at the door entrance talking. Only god knew what the discussion was about.Normally, I wouldn't care. I was good at minding my business. The second time, I heard the voice speaking. A lady. I recognized it to be the female receptioni
{JAYDEN}We eventually got to the reception. The hotel wasn't as bad as it appeared from the outside. It wasn't crowded either, just as I wanted. I went straight to the lady. Fair skin, a short height of about 5.4 inches, and blonde shoulder-length hair. Every woman I had a thing with was mostly blonde. Two were brunette if I could remember correctly. “Good evening, Sir. Ace hotel is at your service,” she smiled pleasantly at me. She was beautiful. Her smiles could lure weak men into her bed. I know her type. She wasn't a match for someone who had been in the game long enough.“My wife and I would like the best room here. Which one is suitable for us? I want her to get comfortable with me at night.”Her face dropped. The smug smile was swept off her face and was replaced with disappointment. She thought I had come in here alone. “Oh! There are two rooms of your preference, sir.”“Room 345 and 326. They are upstairs on the left.”Nyra stood beside me with no clue of the heat bet
{NYRA}Now we are heading back to Jayden’s house. His friend, Massimo, I think had already left. From what I gathered from Jayden. They were both best friends in high school and have known each other forever. “What about your car?” My brows knitted together in annoyance when I saw him order another cab. With the experience from the last one— I didn't want another nosy driver intruding in my space. The last thing I wanted was for anyone to ask silly questions or throw assumptions when they see us together.I also needed to get fucking rid of this gown off my body. It was causing a lot of distractions. “For now, Nyra— we can't, until we get home. We have to be careful, remember?”He stared at me. His eyes were soft like a fluffy feather, boring into my soul until it cost my breath to weaken. God! I couldn't take my gaze off him. Jayden wasn't doing anything, but his soft blue eyes did something. The night was intoxicated with sin and lust. I didn't want to be part of it.“I rememb
