AURORA'S POV

My entire body was shaking as I turned away from Jared. I stood in disbelief at what had just happened and I still couldn't believe I said those words to him.

I didn't stop to think, I just ran back to Finn's dorm, deciding not to think how it looked to people. When I got there, I stood outside his door catching my breath.

My chest hurt. It felt like someone was stomping on my heart with Louboutin so Kates and I found it so hard to breath.

It took me a while to get my bearings b

  • HEART OF THE ALPHA   Twenty-Eight

JARED'S POVThe rays of sunlight hit my eyelids. Instinctively, my hand came up to try to shield my face. When that didn't work, I turned, but by then I knew it was a lost cause. My eyelids fluttered open. Woah, it was really bright in here. I checked my phone on the nightstand and my eyes widened in shock. It was 9 am. I can't remember the last time I had slept in that long. I looked at the bed, at the reason for the best night of sleep in a really long time. She was still asleep and she snuggled closer to me. I couldn't believe it. I must have died and gone to heaven because how else did I wake up like this especially after the most agonizing two weeks of my life. I wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth. I gently removed myself from the bed so as not to wake her up. I needed to grab coffee and breakfast. First, I went to the bathroom and brushed my teeth, as quietly as possible so I didn't wake Aurora. I couldn't stop smiling. It still felt surreal. I know that we stil

  • HEART OF THE ALPHA   Twenty-Seven

AURORA'S POVI felt like a deer caught in headlights as I watched the train get closer to me, unable to do anything. I didn't even realize that I had stopped trying to get myself untangled from the track when my life flashed before my eyes. It seemed so ironic and borderline cliche that a girl from an orphanage would meet her end this way. I closed my eyes to brace for impact when suddenly someone grabbed me and carried me across so fast it seemed impossible. I found myself cradled in his arms as the train passed, missing us by an inch. My heart was beating so fast, I was afraid it would tear a hole through my chest. I looked up at him, my hand coming up to his face to touch him and see if he was real or if we had both died and gone to heaven. When my hand connected to his skin, I hugged him, my Jared, my hero who had narrowly risked his own life to save mine. I didn't even realize I was crying until I saw the tear stains on his shirt. “It's okay. It's okay. I've got you," Jared

  • HEART OF THE ALPHA   Twenty-Six

JARED'S POVI woke up startled, my shirt, wet with sweat. Another nightmare, fifth night in a row. They were all the same thing but in different fonts. Every night when I closed my eyes, I saw Aurora telling me in front of my pack that she wanted nothing to do with me. Some versions of the nightmare went further and showed her picking Finn over me. Other versions had her taken by an unknown person showing me that I had failed as her mate. I stood up from my bed and headed to the shower. I stared at my reflection in the mirror and I didn't recognize the face staring back at me. My eye bags had eye bags from my lack of sleep and my stubble looked more like a beard now. Even though I was only 21, my face had aged a lot more. I sighed then stood under the water, letting it wash away my fatigue. When I was done, I wrapped my towel around my waist and headed out. I checked the time on my phone. It was 1am, the perfect time for a ride. With how unsettled I had been over the last two wee

  • HEART OF THE ALPHA   Twenty-Five

ALPHA GREGORY'S POV“She's all depressed and vulnerable sir. They haven't seen each other in two weeks," Dimitri said. I smiled to myself, pleased. It was always so good when the universe aligns itself for my benefit. If I didn't believe the healer and I were meant to be before, I most certainly did now. “And are you sure you weren't spotted by any of the wolves in the pack?" I asked. I wouldn't want something so small to derail my plans. “No alpha. We were careful. They suspect nothing. They have no reason to think that the stray wolves they've been searching for are right under their noses," Dimitri replied. “Hmm", I remarked in agreement, “Well done Dimitri. You may leave."I turned from the window I was facing to look at him. He bowed then left. I couldn't help myself. I was grinning like the Cheshire cat. This was proof that the sham mate bond between Aurora and the young alpha was not meant to be. In all my years, I was not aware of a newly mated couple that had this much

  • HEART OF THE ALPHA   Twenty-Four

REBECCA'S POV I tried to listen, I really did. But it is so hard to focus on something as mundane as class when you have something more serious like the fate of your pack on the line. The seat beside me was unoccupied by its usual resident and instead, a random human guy sat beside me. After ignoring his first couple attempts at flirting with me, he had decided to pay attention to the lecture. He's cute and if he had caught me at a better time, maybe I wouldn't have outright pretended he didn't exist. The last two weeks had been like a bad nightmare that I keep hoping to wake up from but hadn't yet. Not only had Aurora completely cut ties with Jared and our pack but she cut ties with me as well. She had even done a good job of avoiding this class that we share together. Not only did I miss her, I was worried about her. I saw how this separation or breakup was affecting my brother. Jared had been angry and moody ever since and the entire pack had learnt to walk on eggshells aroun

  • HEART OF THE ALPHA   Twenty-Three

FINN'S POVIt had been two weeks since Aurora ended things with Jared and his pack; two weeks since our little pack of just the two of us got restored and yet I didn't feel happy. Maybe it was watching my best friend be miserable but still trying to keep up appearances for me. Maybe it was watching her wither away everyday but still greet with me with a smile I could see didn't reach her eyes. Or maybe it was the guilt I felt for the part I played in all of this, either way, the joy I had been anticipating when Aurora kicked those wolves to the curb was nowhere to be found. Aurora couldn't stay with me so she had moved back in to her dorm with her roommate that she hated. As the days went, I thought she would get over Jared and her time at the house but clearly that wasn't going to happen, at least not as quickly as I thought.I wish I could rewind time and stop them from meeting, that way she wouldn't be this upset. We were currently on our way to class when Rory stopped in her

19 years laterAURORA'S POV“Move in day," I thought with a smile on my face. It was the first day of college and the first day of my new life. I was excited but also nervous. I don't know what it was, but something told me my life was going to change today. Maybe it was the part of me that was su

  • HEART OF THE ALPHA   PROLOGUE

Adam stared at his baby girl in his arms as tears streamed down his face. This was the hardest thing he would ever have to do but he had no choice. As a delta, he knew he wouldn't be able to protect her when more dominant wolves came. Toya, his mate came to him with the baby's bag in hand. She als

  • HEART OF THE ALPHA   Four

JARED'S POVMy first day of classes for the new semester had been uneventful. I couldn't tell you one thing any of my professors said. I spent the entire day thinking about her, my mate. I thought it was pretty ironic how I was thinking about her only to meet her a couple of hours later. Life was

  • HEART OF THE ALPHA   Three

AURORA'S POV I sat in class, with my notebook open as the professor went on. I wish I could tell you what about but my mind was elsewhere right now and it had been since yesterday at the cafe. No matter how much I tried, I couldn't get that beautiful stranger out of my mind. Plus that voice in my
