Ryder was taken aback a bit by Arden’s question.

“Just a little,” he said quietly.

Arden frowned immediately. He folded his arms across his chest and looked Ryder up and down.

“This… this is not a little,” Arden said. “It’s obvious you smoked too much today. The smell is all over you.”

Ryder opened his mouth to speak, but Arden continued.

“Is there something that made you smoke this much?” Arden asked, his gaze filled with worry.

Ryder smiled faintly and raised his hand to touch Arden’s face, but Arden shifted back at once, pouting.

“Go freshen up first,” Arden said firmly. “I don’t like the smell.”

Ryder exhaled slowly, then nodded. “Alright.”

He turned and walked toward the bathroom.

Arden blinked in surprise. He had expected Ryder to argue. Or laugh it off. Or ignore him completely. But Ryder had obeyed without a word.

Arden smiled to himself as Ryder disappeared into the bathroom.

    ~~~~~~~Two Days Later~~~~~~ Arden looked at the empty seat that belonged to Kyle and then he sighed as he looked back at the lecturer. Kyle had been absent yesterday, and now today again? What exactly is wrong with him? Arden thought to himself. Nevertheless, he decided to focus on what the professor was teaching. As if on cue, Kyle rushed into the lecture hall, breathing heavily. Arden frowned when he saw him. “You are late again, Mr Kyle. It’s becoming a habit,” the professor said, clearly displeased. Kyle bowed deeply. “I am truly sorry, Professor.” “Go and take your seat,” the professor said. Kyle nodded and walked forward, sitting in the empty seat beside Arden. “Hi, buddy,” Kyle whispered with a small smile. Arden rolled his eyes and faced forward, pretending not to hear him. Kyle sighed quietly but didn’t say anything more. A few hours later, the lecture ended. Students began to leave the hall, chatting among themselves. Arden packed his books quickly and
    After the call ended, Ryder went downstairs and joined Arden and the rest for dinner. The atmosphere was calm, filled with light conversations and soft laughter. Arden never bothered to ask about the call. He assumed it was work, and lately, Ryder had been handling many things. After dinner, everyone headed to their respective rooms to rest. Arden and Ryder walked back to their bedroom together. The room was quiet and warm, the soft glow from the lamp giving it a peaceful feeling. They both climbed onto the bed, tired but relaxed. Ryder reached over and turned off the table lamp, plunging the room into darkness. He turned toward Arden and pulled him close, wrapping an arm around his waist. Arden adjusted himself until he was comfortable against Ryder’s chest. There was silence for a while, only the sound of their breathing filling the room. “Ryder?” Arden called softly. “Hm?” Ryder responded, his voice low and calm. “What is it?” Arden bit his lips, suddenly unsure.     Arden bounced onto the bed and exhaled deeply. The mattress dipped under his weight as his body finally relaxed. He stared up at the ceiling for a few seconds, letting the quiet of the room sink in. Lunch with the family had gone better as he had a full time gist with Ryder’s mom and Asher. After spending some time downstairs, Arden had excused himself and come upstairs to rest. His body felt tired, but his mind felt light. He turned his head to the side and spotted his phone resting on the lampstand. “That’s right,” Arden muttered. “I haven’t called Kyle.” He leaned forward, picked up the phone, and dialed Kyle’s number. It rang twice before the call connected. “Hey, buddy,” Kyle said from the other end. “Kyle, I did it,” Arden said immediately. He could hear the happiness in his own voice. “You did what?” Kyle asked. “What did you do?” “I told Ryder the truth,” Arden said. “And guess what? He didn’t hate me. He didn’t shout. He didn’t do any of the things I thoug
    Arden woke up the next morning, his eyes meeting the familiar ceiling dimly lit by the warm glow of the bedside lamp. He exhaled slowly, turning to his side—but the space beside him was empty. Ryder was gone. A slight pang of worry settled in his chest. He quickly sat up and looked around the room. Where could he be this early? Before his thoughts could spiral further, Ryder stepped out of the walk-in closet. The moment their eyes met, a smile spread across Ryder’s face as he walked toward the bed. When he reached Arden, he leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to his lips. “Good morning, Ardey,” Ryder said softly. “Good morning,” Arden replied, his voice low, almost a whisper. “Did you have a good night’s rest?” Ryder asked, tilting his head slightly. Arden nodded. He couldn’t deny the fact that he had slept well. Not that he usually had trouble sleeping, but tonight felt different. There was no heaviness pressing down on his chest, no lingering guilt. A weight he hadn’
    Ryder opened his eyes as he heard the door open. Corner stepped into the office quietly. The moment his eyes fell on Ryder sitting on the couch with Arden asleep in his arms, his steps slowed. Arden’s head rested against Ryder’s chest, his breathing calm and even, one arm loosely wrapped around Ryder’s waist. Corner immediately understood he had come at the wrong time. He bowed slightly and turned to leave. “I am sorry, Boss. I will come back later,” Corner said softly. “No need,” Ryder replied. Corner stopped and nodded, turning back fully. His expression shifted from hesitation to focus. “Boss,” Corner said, lowering his voice, “since we are about to release Derek, what should we do with his father?” Ryder did not answer immediately. His gaze dropped to Arden’s face, peaceful in sleep, so different from the broken expression he had worn earlier. Ryder’s hand moved instinctively, gently stroking Arden’s hair. “Don’t release Derek yet,” Ryder said calmly. His voice was quiet
