Chapter two
David's heart leaped in his chest. "I would love to," he said, feeling a little
giddy. "When were you thinking?"
"Tomorrow night?" Isabella suggested, her eyes shining. "I know this great little bar not too far from here."
David nodded eagerly, feeling like he was on top of the world. "Sounds perfect," he said.
As Isabella walked out of the gallery, David couldn't help but feel like he was in a dream. He had never met anyone like her before, and he couldn't wait to see her again.
Isabella sat on her couch, staring out the window as she thought about her last relationship. She had been with Jackson for almost a year, but it had ended in heartbreak when she discovered he had been cheating on her.
As she thought about it, she realized there had been warning signs all along. Jackson had been distant, always on his phone, and had started canceling plans at the last minute. Isabella had tried to ignore it, convincing herself that he was just busy or stressed at work. But deep down, she knew something was wrong.
Now, months after the breakup, Isabella was finally starting to move on. She had met David, a kind and thoughtful man who had caught her attention with his intelligence and sense of humor. They had been on a few dates and Isabella found herself fantasizing about the kind of healthy relationship they could have.
She imagined them spending lazy Sundays in bed, cuddled up with a book or watching a movie. She pictured them cooking together in the kitchen, sharing a bottle of wine and laughing as they made a mess. She dreamed of going on adventures together, exploring new places, and trying new things.
But most importantly, Isabella fantasized about a relationship built on honesty, trust, and respect. She thought about how David always listened to her and made her feel heard, how he never judged her or made her feel insecure. She imagined a future where they communicated openly and honestly and supported each other's dreams and aspirations.
As she daydreamed, there was a knock at the door. Isabella's heart skipped a beat as she jumped up to answer it. Standing on her doorstep was Kim, her assistant who is also one of her besties with a bouquet in her hand and a smile on her face.
"Hey," she said, her voice warm and judging. "I was in the neighborhood and thought I'd drop by."
Isabella sighed “I know that tone Kim, please don’t judge me”
Isabella felt a wave of happiness wash over her as she invited her in. They sat on the couch together, chatting and laughing as they caught up on each other's lives. Isabella felt a sense of relief and she told Kim all about David and her plans to take things coolly.
"What’s with the flower” Isabella inquired. "Guess who has it delivered to the office?” They both looked at each other in disbelief.
“He wouldn’t dare” Isabella exclaimed. "Well he did,” said Kim. “He’s been delivering flowers to the office twice a week, I know these are your favorites and I don’t feel like throwing it out” she smiles.
“That man got some nerves, well I don’t need his flowers or an apology from him. I
am done with him”.
Isabella sat across from her friend, nervously fidgeting with her fingers. She took a deep breath and blurted out, "I like David."
Kim’s eyes lit up with excitement. "Oh, Isabella! That's wonderful news. Tell me more."
Isabella smiled shyly. "Well, we've been talking for a while now and we're planning our first date. I suggested we go to the bar around the corner."
Kim nodded approvingly. "That's a great spot. It's cozy and romantic."
Isabella's smile faded slightly as she began to fidget with her fingers again. "There's something else I need to tell you," she said hesitantly. "I lied to David about my financial situation. I told him I was poor when I'm not."
Kim's eyebrows furrowed in concern. "Why did you do that?"
"I don't know," Isabella admitted. "I guess I was afraid he would also pretend to love me for my money and not for who I am”
Kim reached across the table and took Isabella's hand. "Isabella, you deserve to be loved for who you are. You don't need to pretend to be someone else to be accepted."
Isabella nodded slowly, tears forming in her eyes. "I know you're right, but look at what Jackson did. He lied to me, he used me. I genuinely loved him and he broke my heart, he was just with me for my money. Every one of them wants me for my money, no one loves or cares about me "
"Don’t you think he will be hurt when he finds out about your status, this is Chicago Isabella. Nothing stays hidden forever. You don't have to do it right away," her friend reassured her. "But when the time is right, I think you should be honest with him. He seems like a great guy and if he cares about you, he'll understand."
Isabella smiled through her tears, feeling a weight lifted off her shoulders. "Thank you, I needed to hear that." Wipe her tears “But I need to be sure that he loves me for me and not because I am rich, Let’s wait and see if he is genuine”
Her friend squeezed her hand. "Of course. And speaking of David, you seem so happy when you talk about him. You should open up to him about your feelings."
Isabella blushed. "I don't know if I'm ready for that yet." she sighs “I need to heal from the whole Jackson situation but I am sure that I like David, he is special. I can feel it”
Kim grinned mischievously. "Well, don't take too long. You don't want him to slip away."
A second chance, forgiveness and love prevailsTears began to come out of Yvonne's eyes and she began to shake her hand. "Doctor," Isabella called out.The doctor rushed into the room, quickly assessing the situation. He checked Yvonne's vital signs and nodded to Isabella with a reassuring smile. "She's coming around," he said. "You did the right thing by coming here."Isabella exhaled deeply, feeling a weight lift from her shoulders. She looked at Yvonne, who was beginning to stir. The doctor signaled for a nurse to assist and then gently asked Isabella to step outside for a moment while they attended to Yvonne.Outside the ward, Isabella leaned against the wall, her mind a whirlwind of emotions. David and Kiera, who had been waiting anxiously, approached her."How is she?" David asked, concern etched on his face."She's waking up," Isabella replied, her voice soft. "I think... I think she'll be okay."David wrapped an arm around Isabella, pulling her close. "You did a brave thing, g
Captured"Yvonne, stop this madness!" Isabella shouted. "This isn’t what Chris would have wanted. Think of your daughter. Think of what you’re teaching her."Yvonne’s resistance wavered, and for a moment, it seemed as though she might relent. But then, with a surge of strength, she threw Isabella off and scrambled to her feet. Before Yvonne could do anything more, a voice rang out from the entrance of the garden."Freeze! Police!"A group of officers stormed into the garden, guns drawn. Yvonne's face fell as she realized her plan had been thwarted. The masked man tried to flee but was quickly apprehended by the officers.Isabella rushed to her daughter, enveloping her in a tight hug. Tears streamed down her face as she held her close, relief washing over her in waves. David, freed by one of the officers, joined them, wrapping his arms around both of them.Yvonne was restrained by the police, her face a mask of defeat and sorrow. She looked at Isabella, a mix of hatred and grief in her
Tension Isabella arrived at the garden. She saw Yvonne there. "Excuse me. You were speaking to me? It felt abrupt all of a sudden," Isabella said, looking at Yvonne, whose back was turned to her. Yvonne slowly turned to face her. "Surprise," she said and laughed. "Thought you got rid of me?" "Yvonne? What are you doing here?" Isabella asked, nervously. "I'm here to surprise you, my dear. You guys succeeded in killing my husband and making me a widow and my daughter, fatherless. Guess, you forgot, an eye for an eye. Look over there," she said, pointing. Isabella followed her finger. She saw David tied up, down the garden. "How did you get my husband? Release my husband now, before I call the police on you.""Don't be stupid, Isabella. Did you think I came without a plan? They are bringing your daughter, now. The deal is, you can only save one person. There will be a timer. If the time runs out, one of them will die. Oh, that's her over there.""How dare you involve my child in th
Yvonne returns. "Just stay safe, Yvonne. And take care of that little girl.""I will," Yvonne promised, hugging her friend before leaving. With the passports in hand, Yvonne booked the next flight out of the country. She used a series of cash transactions to avoid any digital trails. She knew it was only a matter of time before the police caught up with her, and she couldn’t afford any mistakes. On the day of their flight, Yvonne felt a mix of fear and determination. She dressed Emily in simple clothes, making sure they looked as inconspicuous as possible. As they boarded the plane, she couldn’t help but glance around nervously, expecting to see police officers at any moment. But the flight went smoothly. As the plane took off, Yvonne held Emily’s hand, feeling a glimmer of hope for the first time in days. They were leaving behind a life of fear and uncertainty, heading towards a future where they could finally be free. Yvonne bursted out in laughter, in a loud evil laugh. Hours lat
Away for a while.Yvonne stepped out of the hospital, while the cool night air hit her like a wave, momentarily shocking her out of her grief. But it was quickly replaced by a seething rage that coursed through her veins. She pulled the hood of her sweatshirt over her head, determined to stay hidden as she walked through the city streets. She needed to think, to plan. She needed to make them pay.Her first stop was to collect their daughter, Emily, from her sister’s house. Emily had been staying there for the past few weeks while Chris was on the run. Yvonne’s sister, Melissa, was supportive but wary of Chris’s lifestyle, and Yvonne knew she’d have to be careful about how much she told her.Melissa answered the door, her face etched with concern. "Yvonne, what’s going on? I heard about Chris on the news. Are you okay?""No, I’m not," Yvonne said, her voice steady but cold. "Chris is dead. The police shot him."Melissa gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. "Oh my God, I’m so sorry.""I
Lurking in the dark. "We have informations of Chris's whereabout. The Police officers are getting ready to invade, Chris's hideout. When we have a leak, we will let you know," Detective Martinez informed Isabella. "Thank you so much," Isabella said. "But, Chris is very cunny. What if he outsmarts the Police and escape, just like Yvonne did?""Well, all we plan is to arrest him and bring him into custody. When we catch him, we will hold him at gunpoint. If he tries to outsmart us, they will release fire at him," Detective Martinez explained. "Oh, alright. All I want is for him to be caught. He is a threat to our lives," Isabella said, eagerly. Detective Martinez nodded, his face serious but understanding. "We will do everything in our power to ensure he is apprehended and no longer a threat."Isabella watched as the detective left her home, the weight of the situation pressing heavily on her shoulders. Chris had been a constant menace, always one step ahead, and his cunning nature
