CHAPTER ONE: Breakup

“You’re two months pregnant,” Linda broke the news to me, and I brimmed with joy.

“Oh my God, I can't believe this. Are you sure?” I asked again to confirm the results, and she confirmed it once more which mad me let out a loud piercing scream in happiness.

Unable to contain my emotions any longer, I quickly took the results from her and rushed out of her office. Not wasting any time, I proceeded to the antenatal office, but I was told I couldn't start now and had to come back after 8 weeks. I listened attentively to all the instructions given to me before heading out of their office.

Today was a very great day. First, my fashion show was a success, and now expecting my prince or should I say princess.

“Oh my God, this is just so amazing…..”

I gently rubbed my stomach as I proceeded to my car, and just then his message came through.

"Meet me at Le Grand Brasserie. It's urgent," the message read, and I blushed as I read it, taking in my lower lip.

“Did he already have a feeling that we were having a child? Or maybe… don't tell me he wants to propose,” I said aloud as I squealed in happiness and started jumping up and down because May had already told me he saw Cassius at the ring store two days ago. I could see people's eyes on me as I screamed and jumped in happiness, but I didn't really care about what's going on in their mind.

I composed myself and then quickly rushed into the car, and zoomed to the French restaurant where Cassius awaited. On getting to the restaurant, I could see a grand building right in front of me, and I was darn sure this must be very expensive.

“Ok sweetheart, you gotta compose yourself,” taking a deep breath I proceeded inside.

As I walked into the restaurant and got on the elevator, I quickly dipped my hand into my bag and brought out a mirror and my makeup. Checking the mirror, I applied a little makeup and put on red lipstick. As I noticed I was about to reach my destination, I put everything back into my bag and adjusted my long wavy hair and put on a very bright smile. As I emerged from the elevator, I admired the French restaurant, where a soft glow of candlelight created a warm and elegant atmosphere which makes everything just so unique and on a completely different level.

"I'm here to meet Cassius Aldriche," I said to the maître d’, and my heart fluttered because I was very sure something big was happening tonight.

The maître d' nodded with a knowing smile. "Right this way, Miss Emelia. Mr. Aldrich has been expecting you."

She led the way, I followed her through the opulent dining room and she led me to the VIP section where Cassius was. On sighting Cassius, whose back was facing me, I thanked the maître d' with a light bow and rushed closer to him, tickling him.

“Stop it, please…” Cassius begged as he couldn't stop laughing while I tickled him.

After a while, I stopped tickling him, gave him a light peck on his right cheek and then took my seat.

“You looked stunning," Cassius complimented, as he checked me out, making me blush harder.

“ Thanks.”

Stealing a glance at him, my gaze traced up the line on  his Navy blue suit, to his chiseled jawline before settling on his full, well-defined lips as their natural pinkish hue beckoning me to to have a taste of it.

We ordered food immediately because I was already famished, but that’s just a lie. I was actually searching for something in the food; I must have watched too many dramas. While eating, we talked about our successful day, and it’s such great news to hear that our days were filled with something good as we both got something amazing to share but I only told him about my successful fashion show, I didn't tell him about the pregnancy yet as It must come as a surprise to him.

Now, I was almost done with my food, but I hadn't seen anything yet. Drank a whole bottle of wine, maybe something would pop up, eat every single crumb of food thinking maybe it's just a small size ring but I got nothing. I glanced around, looking at any waiter or waitress who would bring in more order or… flowers.

“Do you want to order something more?” Cassius asked as he noticed my glancing around, my eyes met with his piercing blue eyes and I gently nodded with a smile.

I picked up my cutlery again and continued eating my food, and just then I saw Cassius tapping his feet against the ground, and I knew that it’s time, and my heart was already swelling with love.

“Emelia, I got something to tell you,” Immediately he said that, my gaze fixed on the table and my hold tightened against the cutlery, ready to hear those four words that I had been eagerly waiting for.

But why wasn't he using romantic names? Why did he called my name?

Raising my head, I met his gaze, and I could feel he’s tense about something, and he’s avoiding my gaze with his hands clenched together and this… was definitely not a proposal but something else entirely.

“Spill it out right…”

“I'm getting married,” he cut me off and broke news that shattered my entire world.

I was dumbfounded for a while and I found it hard to understand and comprehend what he just said. Was he joking with me right now? Breaking up with me at this stage? Maybe it's just part of his surprise for me because I couldn't understand a single thing that's happening right now.

I dropped the cutleries, placed my elbow on the table with my palm clenched together.

“For what reason?”

“I'm getting married to Mary.”

I couldn't believe what he’s saying right now or had my ear failed me? It took quite a while before the news settled in but I wasn't still sure of the Mary he's talking about.

“Mary? Which of the Marys?”

“ Same Mary, your elder sister.”

“Cassius, are you joking with me right now? I thought you and Mary were done and that's why we began this relationship. You never told me that you’re still head over heels for her and waiting for her,” I yelled at him in anger as I couldn't contain my emotions any longer.

“You should get your facts right. You chose to enter this relationship with me when you obviously knew that Mary and I were engaged and I don't remember breaking off the engagement. When Mary left, I told you I was lonely and looking for a companion, not a life partner, so you should have expected this from the beginning,” he snapped at me, as he continued uttering gibberish.

So I was just a thing, just an object to use and dump at his will. I stood up from my seat as I paced around trying to grab hold of the situation right here. With the way he’s acting up, I was darn sure that Mary’s already back. A thought to break the news of my pregnancy crept in that seemed to be the only way to hold him down, but I really didn't want to ruin my sister's happiness. In anger, I picked up my glass of wine and splashed the wine on his face.

“What the heck, are you crazy?”

“ I should be the one asking you that question, you son of a bitch!”

“Mark my word, you will definitely regret this.” I spat at him in anger as I picked up my bag and walked out of the restaurant.

Tears streamed down my face as I stormed out. I knew everything was going too perfectly since morning, which was already a bad omen. I dragged myself to my car as I definitely knew that moving on would be an uphill battle. I loved him, I gave him my all, but I couldn't believe he just used and dumped me. He never told me this was just a temporary relationship; he told me he and Mary had a big fight before she traveled and he wouldn't forgive her, and now he’s blaming me. As I walked to the garage, I bumped into someone, which made my bag fall down, and I saw my result on the ground. Picking it up, I clung onto it as I cried my heart out.

Why me…….
