Chapter Eleven

Mikaela:

It's been over a month now, and yes, it has been a difficult journey to recovery. I thought I had recovered but at some point of my recovery, my energy sucked itself out of me and I was back to scratch, fighting for my life.

I couldn't be more glad that I could now move around by myself. Even at that, the doctor recommended lots of sleep and rest and barely any work.

It was understandable that he was only trying to do his job, but I wouldn't appreciate him as much as I would appreciate Kevin.

He was always there to tell me he'll always be there. He was always there to whisper reassuring words to me when I needed them the most. Always there to make sure I felt more than safe. He would stay up all night to ensure I slept well.

He was not just a friend. He was more than a supporter in fact. I couldn't thank him enough and if there was anything I could do to repay his kindness, I would definitely do it. I would trade anything in fact, even my own freedom to ensure he knew how much his support meant to me.

I let out a sigh, smiling widely as I glanced outside the window, the sunset bleeding in through the thin glass and staining my face.

I watched the skyscrapers and buildings move rapidly as we zoomed by.

“The evening is nice, isn't it?” Kevin asked.

I tilted my head to look at him. “It sure is. It's nice to at least get to see the outside world. It's amazing.”

“Of course. You still need some rest. The outside world should drain you. We'll soon be home, don't worry.”

I flashed him a warm smile, and the rest of the ride went on quietly until we arrived at a mansion.

The chauffeur pulled up at the garage, and Kevin exited the car from the other side while I did on my end.

He walked over to me and held my wrist.

The place was quiet, the air warm. As if the oxygen was a different breath of fresh air.

I heaved a sigh of satisfaction.

“Come.” He uttered, leading me out of the garage and into the opulent mansion.

The double door opened as he twisted the knobs, letting us enter.

The interior was fine with elegant detailing.

“Welcome home.” He chuckled, his voice echoing in the mansion.

I turned to look at him for a second, and he flashed me a genuine smile.

“Let me take you to your room.”.

I nodded and he led the way, heading towards the grand staircase.

He walked me through the passage and stopped by one of the doors, swinging the door open.

My brows furrowed.

“You don't like it?” He asked.

I hadn't even taken a look at it yet but I thought we were going to the attic. Why was he giving me the room on this floor?

Our eyes met.

My eyes darted to glimpse at the room. It wasn't where I had imagined to stay.

The best I expected was a cold room with no bed, but here he was, offering me a whole furnished room as if I was his girlfriend or a guest he was trying to impress.

I stepped in slowly, crossing my arms as my eyes scanned the entire place.

Well, good. Absolutely great.

I heard the door double click, and I could feel his strong presence behind me.

I turned. “Why?” I scoffed with my arms still crossed over my chest.

“Why?” He asked, puzzled. “Oh. I can find another room to offer you, don't worry. You can have my room if you want.” His fingers scratched the back of his head.

I fought the urge to laugh before I realized this man wasn't mocking me. He was dead serious!

That's weird if you would ask me.

“Kevin.” I called firmly.

“Hm?” He hummed, raising both brows.

“Why have you been so good to me?” I questioned, taking two steps forward while maintaining eye contact, looking for the slightest hint of him folding in, but he didn't.

Instead, he intensified the eye contact.

That could only mean one thing. He was being open with nothing to hide.

“What do you mean?” He asked,

“Honestly, you've been super nice and I've been waiting for one moment to find your ulterior motive,”

He didn't say anything.

“Why?” I added, my brows furrowed.

“Because you deserve it.” He added, his blue eyes still pinned on mine.

“Is that it? Tell me the truth. I deserve the truth too, you know?” I retorted.

“You know what? It's just the least I can do for you after all these years. You've disappeared since forever. Your things lingered, including your scent, but it faded with time.” With each word, the flesh on his forehead tightened. “All the desire I had for you all melts to this moment, and I won't even let you go again. If being nice is what will make you stay, I will be nice. I lost you because…” he paused, talking a step closer until I could feel his hot, shallow breath brush against my delicate skin.

“Because I didn't learn to be the man you want because I was scared of changing, losing, and ruining myself. But when you left, I realized you had the best piece of me, so there's no me when you're gone. I'd rather change myself and have that piece than not have the piece and not be myse-”

Before he could finish, he grabbed my head, pushing me forward and catching my lips in his.

His lips. My lips. Apocalypse.

It felt…. I could describe it.

I felt my eyes close to process the sensation.

I couldn't tell how it felt but his lips moved with hunger, and desire. Hot yet gentle. Risky yet soothing.

My hand crawled to his chest, pushing him away gently. I looked into his eyes, shaking my head with my chest rising and falling rapidly.

He gulped, his Adam's apple bubbling.

His thumb trailed its way to my lips, brushing the moisture off them.

He whispered, “I'm sorr-”

I clutched his shirt, pulling him into another kiss.

I just wanted more.
