I exhaled slowly when the figure finally stepped into the light. My shoulders sagged, and I let out a shaky breath.

Mr De Vito.

He was wearing a black dress shirt, the top buttons undone, sleeves rolled up, revealing the veins that snaked along his forearms. His blue eyes found mine and stayed there, unreadable, hard. The air shifted, turning thick and oppressive.

"You scared me," I said, voice barely above a whisper. "What are you doing here?"

He didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, he stepped inside and closed the door behind him with a quiet click. The sound echoed like a gunshot.

He looked at me in silence, his eyes moving down to the nightgown I was wearing. His jaw flexed once, then again. But still, he said nothing.

I crossed my arms over my chest, my skin prickling.

"What did I tell you?" he asked finally, voice low and cold.

I blinked, confused. "What are you talking about? What—?"

His eyes darkened, something dangerous flashing in their depths. He took a slow step c

  • HIS FORBIDDEN TEMPTATION    Chapter 115- Hot As Red

The morning sun streamed through the penthouse windows like golden confetti, but it didn’t chase away the lingering shadows from the night before. I’d barely slept. My body had been tired, but my mind? A whirling hurricane of what-ifs, ghostly silhouettes, and the echo of Mr De Vito’s voice telling me I was stronger than I knew.It was hard to believe that when I’d spent most of the night gripping a pillow like it was a weapon.Still, I wasn’t about to let fear win. Not today.I dressed, applied a little makeup to hide the dark circles beneath my eyes, and met Matteo downstairs. I climbed into the back of the car with a deep breath and stared out the window as the city passed in a blur of steel and sunlight.Work was the one place I could focus on something other than the creeping paranoia in the back of my mind. And today, the entire building was buzzing with energy. The De Vito Annual Ball was just around the corner.Which meant chaos.Organized chaos, but chaos nonetheless.“Emily!

The silence stretched between us, heavy and tight like a noose around my throat. Mr De Vito hadn’t moved. His eyes were still locked on mine, unwavering, unreadable, full of something I couldn’t name—but it stirred something reckless inside me.Then he finally spoke. “You can leave. But only on one condition.”My pulse stumbled. “What condition?”He took a breath, his jaw tense as though he didn’t trust the words that might escape if he didn’t brace himself.“You stay at my penthouse. You don’t go to a hotel. You don’t disappear into the city alone. You stay somewhere I can still protect you until I know who did this. Until it’s safe.”I blinked at him. “Your penthouse?”“It’s secure,” he said. “Top floor, multiple exits, surveillance on every level. No one gets in or out without clearance.”The logical part of me knew he was right. It was smarter. Safer. But the part of me that had woken up to someone trying to murder me was still shaking, still terrified. And more than anything, it

  • HIS FORBIDDEN TEMPTATION    Chapter 113- I'm Leaving

The soft hush of morning light crept in through the thick curtains, casting golden lines across the carpet like bars in a cage.I blinked slowly, the ache in my body reminding me that I hadn’t truly slept. Not really. Not with the sound of his breathing anchoring me to this room like a chain.Mr De Vito was still in the chair, his head tilted back against the wall, arms folded across his chest. He looked peaceful like this. Human. His lashes were long against his cheekbones, the sharp edges of his jaw softened by sleep. Vulnerable in a way he never allowed himself to be while awake.A small, foolish part of me wanted to reach out and touch him. Just once. To see if he was real. But the smarter part of me—the part that knew I couldn’t survive another night like the last one—was already crawling out of bed.I moved slowly. Quietly. One foot after the other, heart in my throat. I didn’t breathe until I was out the door and halfway down the hall, back toward my own room.Even in daylight,

"What did you just say?"Mr De Vito's voice cut through the silence like a razor. Low. Dangerous. Disbelieving.I sat up straighter, fingers clenched around the blanket pulled up to my chest. My heart was pounding again, but not from fear of him. From fear of what I was about to do. What I had to do."I said I want to leave," I repeated, voice steadier this time, though my throat felt like it was made of broken glass. "I can't stay here anymore."He stared at me. No movement. No blink. Just that fire behind his eyes flickering hotter. And then—he laughed. It wasn't a pleasant laugh. It was sharp, humorless, more of a warning than amusement."You think you can just leave?" he said, stepping closer. "Have you forgotten you're under my supervision? You're not just a guest here, Miss Ross. You're my responsibility. If anything happens to you, it falls on me.""Then let it fall on you from somewhere else," I snapped, surprising even myself. "Because staying here is not safe. Not for me."H

Mr De Vito’s room was darker than mine, larger too, and colder. But in that moment, wrapped in his arms, I barely noticed anything but the unrelenting tremble in my limbs and the storm still howling in my chest. He set me down gently on the edge of his bed, his hand lingering on my shoulder for a moment, as if afraid I might shatter if he let go."Wait here," he said, voice low and rough, tight with barely restrained fury. "I need to talk to my security team.""No," I whispered, clutching his hand before he could step away. My fingers closed around his like a lifeline. My heart was pounding again. Not because of him, but because the idea of being alone—even in his room—sent panic crawling back up my spine. I glanced at the door like it might swing open any second, like the shadow might return. He looked down at me. His jaw clenched, eyes dark and burning. He gave a short nod."Alright. You’re coming with me."Still holding my hand, he helped me up. I followed him wordlessly out of the

  • HIS FORBIDDEN TEMPTATION    Chapter 110- The Stranger In My Room

Sleep came in waves, heavy and slow, dragging me under like the tide. My body still trembled from the encounter with Mr De Vito, my skin hot and prickling from where he had touched me. I had climbed into bed without changing, too exhausted, too shaken to move. The room felt both freezing and too warm at once, my thoughts churning like a storm.I don't know how long I lay there in the dark, staring at the ceiling. Minutes? Hours? Eventually, sleep caught me in its claws and pulled me under. The mattress dipped beside me.Somewhere in the half-lucid haze of sleep, I felt the shift in weight. The warmth of a body close to mine. The scent—light—familiar but distant. I didn’t think anything of it. My dream-addled mind offered no warning, no alarm. It was just a presence. Someone beside me. Nothing unusual. Nothing to fear.So I turned toward the warmth, my body seeking it like a moth drawn to flame. I curled closer, chasing comfort. My face found the hollow of the pillow, and I exhaled sof
