I sat on the couch like a statue, eyes fixed on the door that hadn’t budged in hours.

Jane sat beside me, curled up with her knees to her chest and a blanket draped over her legs. The TV was on, some sitcom laughing at its own punchlines, but neither of us were watching it. I don’t think either of us even knew what show was playing.

The room was dim, lit only by the soft golden glow of the floor lamp in the corner, but my thoughts were anything but soft. They were sharp, jagged things—poking, stabbing, gnawing at the inside of my skull.

“He’s still not back?” Jane asked, her voice low and cautious.

I shook my head.

She looked at me, then the door. “You called?”

“Twice,” I said. “No answer.”

I exhaled shakily, wrapping my arms tighter around myself like I could will the ache away.

Jane shifted closer. “Okay, you need to tell me what the hell happened.”

I hesitated, but what was the point of holding it in now?

So I told her.

Everything.

The bed. His arms. The way he held me like he need

Her smile was the spark that lit the fuse inside me.I didn’t even try to hide the hunger in my eyes. The way she sprawled across our bed in that black lace, looking like a fantasy I’d been chasing my whole life, made my chest ache and my cock throb so hard it was almost painful.“Do you have any idea what you’re doing to me, baby girl?” I murmured, my voice low, rough, and thick with desire.Emily tilted her head, her lips curling in that wicked way that told me she knew exactly what she was doing.“That’s the point, Mr De Vito.”Fuck.I moved before my brain could catch up. One second I was kneeling over her, the next my hands were sliding down her sides, palms mapping every inch of soft skin until I reached the edge of that scrap of lace barely clinging to her hips.I gripped the waistband and tugged — not to take it off yet, just to feel how little resistance there was between me and the heat I craved. She let out the softest gasp, arching into my touch, and my self-control snappe

The click of my pen echoed softly in the quiet office. Everyone else had left hours ago, and yet here I was—still hunched over architectural blueprints, reviewing lighting layouts for the hotel’s rooftop pool like the perfectionist I was born to be.I’d already finalized the structural plans and approved the supplier contracts. All that was left was a double-check on the visual flow of the third-floor spa and the final measurements on the balconies.I rubbed the back of my neck, loosening my tie, eyes burning slightly from staring at design schematics all day. The only thing keeping me grounded was the thought of her—my woman, my Emily. I glanced at the clock on the wall.10:16 PM.Damn.I told her I wouldn’t be long tonight. Just a couple of hours at the office, enough to get ahead for the week.“Just thirty more minutes,” I muttered to myself. “Wrap this up, go home, and make it up to her like you promised.”I could already see her face when I’d left this morning—still flushed from

The smell of coffee drifted through the air like a warm hug, wrapping around me as I sat at the kitchen island with a soft smile on my face.I took another bite of the buttery croissant, my fingers brushing over the rim of the mug Lorenzo used this morning. His scent still lingered in the air—warm, musky, and comforting. He hadn’t said much after we got out of bed. Just soft kisses. A whisper against my neck. “I’ll make it up to you tonight, my love.” His eyes had glowed with something dark and delicious when he said it, and he kissed me again, longer this time, before leaving with one last look.I’d been smiling ever since.I was still lost in the memory, tracing a little heart in the foam of my cappuccino with a spoon, when I heard the scream.A high-pitched shriek from upstairs. My heart leaped to my throat. I jumped up, nearly knocking over my coffee.“Jane?!” I called, already halfway to the stairs, panic twisting in my chest.Footsteps thundered from above.Then—laughter.And th

The sun filtered in through the curtains like it had no idea the world was falling apart.I blinked against the light, groggy and disoriented, my heart already racing before I was even fully awake. My arm stretched out instinctively, reaching for the familiar warmth beside me, only to find...Nothing.Just cool sheets.I shot up, eyes darting to the space where Lorenzo should have been.Gone.Panic tightened my chest.I shoved the blankets aside and sat up fully, ready to call his name—when the sound of the closet door creaked open.Lorenzo stepped out, fully dressed. Crisp black shirt. Dark slacks. Hair combed back. Jaw clean-shaven. He looked every bit the powerful, put-together man the world saw him as.But not mine. Not this morning.“Morning,” I said quietly, voice raw with sleep and unshed emotions. He didn’t look at me.“Morning,” he replied flatly, adjusting the cuffs of his sleeves.I swung my legs off the bed and stood, bare feet hitting the floor. “You’re leaving already?”

“Girl, the way he looks at you, I smell trouble,” Jane said again, her peach now a forgotten mush in her hand as she leaned closer, eyes wide with curiosity.I opened my mouth to respond, but the soft click of the front door interrupted me.I turned toward the sound just as footsteps echoed down the hallway. And then he appeared.Lorenzo.My heart skipped like it always did. There was something about seeing him when I wasn’t expecting to—something raw, almost primal. He wasn’t just handsome—he was arresting. The kind of man who made the air shift when he walked into a room. Jane straightened instantly. “Oh,” she whispered, then cleared her throat. “I’ll, uh… I’ll be in my room.”She waved a little too cheerfully at Lorenzo, who gave her a polite nod, then vanished up the stairs like her life depended on it.The silence that followed wrapped around us like a second skin.“You’re home early,” I said, trying to fill it.Lorenzo’s gaze flicked across my face, something unreadable in his
