Captain Smith’s mansion stood quietly on a hill just outside Miami. The kind of place that said money without trying too hard. Every room was wide and airy, but tonight, it was different. It was usually too quiet.

Tim, his nephew, stood by the window just after his bed, arms folded across his chest. “You’re going through with this?” he asked, hoping that he would change his mind..

Captain Smith didn’t look up from his drink. “Yes.”

Tim turned. “You barely know her, Uncle. She could be anyone.”

“I don’t need to know everything,” the Captain replied. “I just know she’s not nobody.”

Tim walked over to the table, his voice dropping. “You’re flying her to Istanbul for facial surgery. That’s not charity, it’s a life reset, and it might be too risky. Why?”

The old man leaned back in his chair. “There’s something about her, Tim. Something that pulls me in. She reminds me of someone I couldn’t save. Maybe this time, I can do it right.”

Tim shook his head but didn’t argue anymore. He knew when his uncle had made up his mind, nothing else would make him change it..

A week later, they boarded a private jet bound for Turkey. The hum of the engine was steady as the clouds rolled beneath them. Alicia sat by the window, bandaged, silent, her hands resting still in her lap. She hadn’t spoken much since she woke up; everything had been overwhelming, and the medicine administered to her had been taking a toll on her.

Captain Smith sat beside her, flipping through a newspaper he wasn’t reading. They both knew this trip would change everything.

Back in San Francisco, Amaya’s coffee shop was quiet. The music playing from the music station hummed softly in the background, playing some old jazz. She moved behind the counter like a ghost, wiping down surfaces that were already clean, anything just to keep her mind busy.

The bell on the door rang, she wasn’t expecting anyone, and the shop was already closed for the day.

Andrew stepped in, his coat still wet from the drizzle outside.

“Didn’t think you’d be open,” he said, trying to smile.

“I have to be,” Amaya replied, not looking up. “If I stop, I’ll lose it.”

Andrew sat on the stool across from her. “I still can’t believe she’s gone.”

Amaya finally looked at him. Her eyes were tired and pale, like they hadn’t shut in days. “Me neither. Every morning, I expect her to call, say something ridiculous, complain about how her daughter refuses to eat carrots, and eat chocolates instead.”

Andrew laughed a little. Then he leaned in, serious now. “You know, I always had a thing for her, maybe it developed into strong affection.”

Amaya raised a brow. “You? Really?”

He nodded. “Yeah. Since college. But then she met Lucas, and well… he had everything I didn’t, so I didn’t bother, I stayed in the dark.”

“You should’ve told her.”

Andrew sighed. “It wouldn’t have made any difference, she was in love with Lucas, it was that loud.”

Amaya nodded slowly. “Now I just have to live like she’s not gone. Like maybe she’ll walk in here and roll her eyes at me again.”

**************************

That evening, the kitchen in Lucas’s house was filled with the smell of milky Pasta. Becky stirred the pot slowly, dancing to the background music coming from her phone.

Maya padded into the room in her socks, clutching her teddy bear.

“Aunty Becky,” she said softly. “Is Mommy ever coming back?”

Becky turned, bent down to Maya’s level, and gave her a strange smile.

“She’s not coming back, baby. Mommy’s gone. But I’ll take care of you now. I’ll be your new mommy.”

Maya screamed out loud. “But I don’t want a new mommy.”

Lucas walked in just in time, suitcase still in hand from work. He stopped at the kitchen door.

“Maya,” he called gently.

She turned and ran to him. He picked her up and kissed her forehead.

“Aunty Becky was just joking, sweetheart. Go watch cartoons, I’ll be there soon.”

Once Maya left, Lucas dropped his suitcase by the counter.

“What the hell was that?” he asked Becky.

“She needs to know. The truth won’t hide forever.”

He frowned. “You don’t get to decide that.”

Becky walked closer. “Stop pretending, Lucas. I’m carrying your child. We’re already a family.”

He took a step back. “Don’t. Don’t say that. And don’t try that mess in front of my daughter.”

“You’re still clinging to a dead woman, is that guilt that I see?” she snapped. “The sooner you let go, the better for all of us.”

Lucas stared at her for a moment, then turned away without another word.

**********************

The hospital in Istanbul was spotless and welcoming. No machines humming, no beeping. Just the stillness of clean air and bright lights.

Alicia sat upright in her bed. Her face was still wrapped in thick white bandages, only her eyes visible. She hadn’t said much all day.

Captain Smith stood near her, arms crossed.

The door opened.

Dr. Nazli stepped in. Tall, lean, sharp-faced, with a nose that could probably slice paper. He walked in with a calm confidence.

“Captain. Miss. Good to see you are awake,” she said with a strong accent. “Today’s the day.”

Captain Smith nodded. Alicia just blinked.

Dr. Nazli walked over with a nurse who brought in a tray of tools.

He looked at Alicia. “Are you ready to see the outcome?”

She nodded once.

She put on gloves and leaned in. “Let’s begin.”

Carefully, layer by layer, he unwrapped the bandages.

The nurse didn’t say a word, she only followed her hand signal..

When the last piece came off, she stepped back.

Captain Smith’s jaw slackened.

She looked… different. Not just healed. Transformed. A face that belonged on magazine covers, not in old family photo albums.

They handed Alicia a mirror.

She stared at the woman looking back.

Soft, the same pair of eyes, a sculpted jawline, fuller lips, the type of face she only sees on an opera mini fashion show. A version of herself she didn’t recognize.

She whispered, “Who… who is this?”

No one answered.

Because nobody in the room had the words.

Not even her.

The clock read 4:07 a.m.Lucas was in the hospital, still wearing the mismatched clothes he threw on in a panic. One side of his shirt was untucked, his belt loose, and his eyes heavy with fear. He hadn't slept; he couldn’t.His mind kept flashing back to the blood. So much of it on the floor, on Beck, on his hands. He had driven like a madman, breaking every speed rule just to get here. Now he was outside the emergency room, barely able to keep his eyes open when the door opened. The doctor walked in slowly, exhaustion written all over his face. The dark circles under his eyes said everything.Lucas jumped up instantly. It was like all the sleep disappeared from his body.“Doctor, my wife... how is she?”The doctor sighed, “We were able to stabilize her, Lucas. She lost a lot of blood, but she's alive. That is the most important thing.”He exhaled in relief, almost sinking into the chair. “Thank God…”The doctor didn’t smile. His face stayed serious.“We lost the baby.”Lucas blinked

Alicia dropped the phone slowly back on the table. She stared blankly at the room for a second, then let out a short breath. "Enjoy it while it lasts," she murmured to herself, wearing her blue cut frame. She turned her attention back to the laptop, clicking through the document Vicky had sent earlier. Her fingers were over the keys, but her thoughts kept wandering. No matter how hard she tried to focus, her mind kept drifting back to one person: Maya.Where was she right now? Was she safe? Was she asking for her mother again? Alicia swallowed hard. She couldn’t afford to get emotional, not now. This was a fight, a long one. And she had no plans of losing it. Not this time.*****Bryan sat on the sofa in the VIP corner of the club. The music was loud, people were shouting, laughing, dancing, but for the first time in a long time, he wasn’t interested. No girls clinging to his side tonight. No playful flirting, he just wanted to relax, it had been a stressful day for him, and he pulled

  • HIS MOST WANTED KARMA   CHAPTER 11

It was Saturday morning, and Becky was all over the place. A wedding planner sat across from her, handing her an iPad filled with different cake designs and options for decor. Becky scrolled through them like a child in a candy store, her eyes lighting up with every swipe."I think this one! No, wait, that one!" she said, squealing. The front door opened. Lucas came in, drenched in sweat from his workout. A small towel was around his neck. Becky dropped the iPad and rushed toward him, like a child in search of her mother."Baby!" she said, planting a kiss on his cheek. "You’re just in time. Let’s sit down and go through this together. We need to finalize some decisions today, there are so many beautiful designs to choose from."Lucas gave a small smile, trying to be polite. "I’ll be down soon. I just need a quick shower and then catch up on a few emails.""But it’ll just take a moment!" Becky said, tugging his arm playfully."Please, let me shower first," he said, “I am all sweaty, yo

Days turned into weeks, and Alicia’s strength came back bit by bit. Her face had fully healed. The pain was almost gone. And now, she stood outside the hospital, ready to leave. Her discharge papers were signed, and they headed straight to the airport. The fresh Miami sun greeted them as they stepped out of the airport hours later.Captain Smith’s black car pulled up in front of a cream-painted house with tall trees lining both sides. It was a huge building that had few people living in it. Alicia stared at the building in silence, her thoughts still on everything that had happened and everything that might come next. There was this level of uncertainty that kicked in.The housekeeper was already waiting. She carried their bags in as Alicia stood quietly beside Captain Smith. She wasn’t saying much these days, just observing, adjusting, and learning how to live in her new skin.Tim came out from the kitchen, apron tied around his waist and a spoon still in his hand. He had been prepa

  • HIS MOST WANTED KARMA   CHAPTER 9

Alicia leaned down, picked the phone from the floor, and held it tightly. Her eyes closed as she let out a shaky breath. Maybe she didn’t see it right, maybe the drugs were messing with her vision, maybe it was all in her head. She opened her eyes again, slowly. But it was still there. The photo, the ring. Becky’s hand stretched toward the camera, the diamond catching the light. The caption read:“The love of my life asked politely, and I said yes. Road to becoming Mrs. David.”Right below, another picture. Her sister and Lucas, side by side, smiling like everything was perfect, and they were living in their fairytale..She kept scrolling back and forth, hoping it would vanish. But the post was still there, and with every glance, her chest grew heavier. Lucas had never posted her, never made their marriage public. He said he didn’t like the spotlight on his family, that privacy was safer. And she had agreed, for love and peace. Most people didn’t even know she was ever Mrs. David. She

  • HIS MOST WANTED KARMA   CHAPTER 8

Alicia stared at her reflection, still holding the mirror with both hands. The woman looking back at her didn’t feel like a stranger, or maybe not, but she wasn’t Alicia King either. Not the quiet one, not the one Lucas married out of pressure. This face was spotless, fresh, almost too perfect, like someone else’s life had been laid over hers. She blinked slowly, unsure of what she felt. Confused? Shocked? Grateful?Lucas… what would he do if he saw her now? Would he even recognize her? Would his heart skip a beat? Or would he just admire her like any other beautiful woman passing by?And Maya? Her sweet daughter with sleepy eyes and curly hair. Would she know her mother? Or would she pull away, scared by this new face, and run away?Alicia touched her cheek softly. It didn’t even feel real. Then there was Amaya, her best friend. Her voice had been the last thing Alicia thought about before everything went dark. She’d called her name, screamed, maybe asked thousands of questions. And
