Chapter 20

Since Damon began to use those uncongenial words on Amelia, she felt like the ground should just open and swallow her. But that was not happening.

“Please, can I go?”

Amelia pleaded because she's known that Damon wants to ruin her day.

She reiterated her pleas twice more, but Damon didn't reply to her. She began to look for faults in her dressing again. Gradually, tears began to form in her eyes. She waited for Damon's response, but that wasn't coming. Instead, Damon focused strictly on the book he was reading. Turning from one page to the other as though he weren't reading but checking something, with immense seriousness written all over his face.

“Who told you to sit?”

Damon screamed as he saw Amelia slowly perching on the chair since she was tired of standing. Hot tears dropped from Amelia's eyes as she hurriedly stood up in response to Damon's command.

'If I'm supposed to die here, my prudence can't prevent it. If I'm supposed to survive this, my intransigence can't prevent it.
