I paused momentarily, recalling my conversation with the strange woman from yesterday.

After a brief moment, I gestured to Ariel, who had been waiting patiently my response.

"Let her in."

She nodded briskly. "Alright, ma'am," she replied, retracing her steps back to the entrance.

I leaned back in my chair, unsure of what to expect as I watched Ariel pull the door open for the stranger.

It didn't take long before a woman stepped in—one around my age. She had curly dark hair, but it was her sparkling hazel eyes that first captured my attention. They were so bright and perfectly suited to her doe-like gaze. She wore a casual yellow floral dress, with her hair cascading down her shoulders. Not going to lie, she was beautiful—far from what I had anticipated.

Yet, something sparked a flicker of familiarity; she looked so much like someone I couldn’t quite place. The feeling was disconcerting, like I had seen her before, even though this was our first encounter. As far as I was concerned.

~KRISTINE~"So, what did you manage to uncover?" I asked, settling into the chair beside Amelia, who was still engrossed in the computer in front of her.She had been in this position since I arrived home from work about an hour ago. She even skipped dinner, claiming she would eat once she had finished the 'assignment' I had given her. That was the request I made earlier for her to delve into Dave's past. That's driven by my curiosity to understand Sabrina's vague comments.Amelia had immersed herself in the task and had been glued to her computer ever since we last spoke in the morning—or at least that's how it seemed.I chuckled as I observed her intense focus on the computer as she typed on the keyboard like a pro. She actually was. It was her field of work.Bored and barely interested in her activities, I looked away, distracted by the message I had received from Sebastian earlier. My heart melted even now at the memory of it. He had messaged me to let me know that he was returnin

  • HIS REGRET; Chasing back his rejected ex-wife    109 ~ Nothing new

~SEBASTIAN~I strongly suspected something was amiss when my brother, who hadn’t visited my home in three years, suddenly showed up with our mother. Seeing the two of them walking together was unusual, especially since Jamie typically avoided associating with our family.I was Mother’s favorite for a reason. I allowed her to play with me and ruffle my hair as she pleased. Jamie, on the other hand, was indifferent towards everyone, including his own wife. I had witnessed the way he treated her in private, which was a stark contrast to the affectionate facade he put on whenever we were in public or at gatherings, like dinner at Grandfather's.Mother was no exception to his aloofness. Jamie had always been cold towards everyone. Maybe, my other brothers were the only exceptions. Still, they weren’t particularly close. You could easily guess the nature of my relationship with Jamie, and it definitely didn’t warrant any gesture like willingly escorting me to the airport as he had claimed—e

~JAMIE~"Are you sure this is the ideal solution, Jamie?" Mother asked, examining the small device I had just handed her."Of course, Mother.""I mean, this is your brother we're talking about. He's as quick as a whip and as sly as a fox, respectively." She stared at me with a mix of skepticism and worry. "What if we get caught?""We won't..." I said, gripping her shoulders to emphasize my point. "If you play your part without raising suspicion.""Are you certain?" she asked again, and I sighed in exasperation. Why was it so difficult to work with old people? Mother wasn't that old, but she kept acting like it. it's fucking exhausting. We had had this conversation numerous times, especially after Sebastian's revelation at dinner the other night. Yet, here she was, still hesitant about my plan to bug my brother."This is the only way to discover his location, Mother. You know he's never going to tell us anything more. Or aren't you curious to uncover the mystery heir Sebastian mentione

~ SEBASTIAN~Staring at the mirror, I couldn't help but admire the handsome young billionaire reflected back at me, dressed impeccably in a formal navy-blue suit, his dark hair slicked back. A smug smile tugged at my lips as I took in my own reflection in the vanity, but I believed my enthusiasm stemmed from more than just my lovely appearance this morning. Maybe it also had something to do with the way I had thrown everyone off with my revelation at dinner the other night.I had left them gasping, reeling in shock and bewilderment. I doubted most of them truly believed what I had said, but I was certain I had given them something to think about. Something to deprive them of their sleep at night—Jamie included. The jerk had glared daggers at me for the rest of dinner, and I returned his glare with equal intensity. That same evening, grandfather had summoned me to his study, pressing me for more answers to his unresolved inquiries. He wanted to know who my supposed heir was and the ba

Dave had an ex? Okay, that's new, especially since he never mentioned it to me. And honestly, I never bothered to ask him about his past, mainly because our relationship mostly felt one-sided.Yes, I may have developed genuine feelings for Dave over time, but I didn't seem interested enough to inquire about his history, just as he never probed into mine. Maybe whenever the thought of asking surfaced, the idea of him turning the tables and asking about me held me back. So, yeah. That was that.Still, the fact that Dave had an ex-girlfriend was surprising. He once told me I was the only woman he had ever loved in that way and the only one he had ever really been committed to. Didn't that mean I was the only one...? Nevermind."Uhm," I managed to pull myself out of my thoughts, returning Sabrina’s gaze with a blank expression. "I'm not sure what you're talking about.""Of course you aren’t," she chuckled dryly. "I guess his failure to mention me to you is exactly like his failure to ment
