You have until the closing period to tell me if the father of your child is also a student of this school, or else I will send the report of your pregnancy over to Mrs. Anderson. Now get out of my office,” the principal said angrily when I still refused to tell her who the father of my child was.

I quickly dropped to my knees and pleaded with the principal not to send the results of my pregnancy test to Mrs. Anderson, or else I would be in big trouble. How do I explain to her that her son is responsible for my pregnancy?

“That’s fine. You have until the closing period. Do you understand? Now get out of my office.”

I didn’t go back to class. I went to the cafeteria—it was empty since break time was over, so everywhere was quiet. I sat there for over an hour, crying my eyes out. The principal’s words rang in my ears over and over again.

I hardly saw Matt at home anymore. He had given an order to my parents not to allow me out of my room after school hours, or he would tell his parents to throw us out of the house. And I couldn’t contact him anymore, even in school. But it seemed like I didn’t have much choice this time around.

I stood up and cleaned my tears with the back of my hand. I had to tell Matt I was pregnant, but the principal would tell his mom.

After searching the entire school for an hour, I finally found Matt coming out of the boys’ toilet with Annabel, who was still arranging her clothes. I didn’t need a soothsayer to tell me what they had done inside the toilet. But why did it still hurt? It had been two months now.

Matt’s face showed a disgusted reaction when he saw me. He scowled. He was clearly unhappy to see me.

“Weirdo, you really like peeking at people having sex? Or have you made another p**n video you want to show us?” Annabel asked, laughing like the bitch she was.

I cleared my throat. “Matt, can I talk to you for a moment? It’s really urgent.”

“What are you doing here? And why do you want to see me? Didn’t I warn you to stay away from me?” Matt yelled at me.

I lowered my head. The tears were threatening to fall, but I held them back. I had never seen him yell at me like that before. He was always so gentle and kind with me. But now everything was different.

“I-I’m sorry. Just five minutes, please. It’s important.”

He whispered something to Annabel’s ear, and she smiled as she walked off, but not without pushing me out of her way.

“Spit it out now. I don’t have all the time in the world to waste here,” he scowled.

“I’m pregnant.”

The anger on his face suddenly disappeared. He looked shocked, but he quickly recovered.

“Congratulations on your pregnancy, but why are you telling me? Tell the baby’s father. I wasn’t there when you people were making the baby,” he said harshly.

“You are the father, Matt. That’s why I came to talk to you. The principal is threatening to send the pregnancy report to your mom if I don’t tell her who the father of the child is until the closing period.”

“What? How could I be the father of the bastard you are carrying in your womb?” Matt exploded. “I was careful that night, so don’t try to pin your pregnancy on me. How do I even know how many men you have slept with after that night?”

“You are questioning my character? You know it was you, Matt. You are the only man I have ever had sex with, and you know it. And we didn’t use protection that night,” I said, raising my voice. It felt like someone had carved my heart out with a sharp knife.

Matt slammed his fist against the toilet door. “Don’t you fucking talk to me like that, or so help me God, the next punch could land on your slutty face.”

I froze. Matt had just threatened to punch me? Why did he hate me so much?

“I’m sorry,” I apologized in a small voice. Tears were flowing down my cheeks now. He looked at me in disgust. My body was trembling as I sobbed.

“We can get a DNA test done if you don’t believe me,” I said in a shaky voice. “I swear it’s your child. I wanted you to know before the principal sends the report to your mom.”

“Shit!” Matt yelled, kicking the toilet door. While I stood there sobbing, a group of boys walked toward us, chatting in a loud voice, but they stopped immediately when they saw Matt and me standing at the door.

Matt held my hand and dragged me out of there forcefully as the boys looked on in shock. He dragged me to the basketball court.

“Did you do this to me on purpose?" Don't you know you were supposed to take the morning after pill?" You know what, get rid of the pregnancy.”

“Arrrg!! That bastard Ethan Enrique! How dare he snatch Meadow from me!” I screamed again as I scattered the files on my desk. “Meadow belongs to me, and nobody can take her away from me!” “Boss, I have what you asked for,” my PA said. That calmed me down a little as I sat back on my chair. “What did you find out about her?” “Boss, there isn’t much information about Meadow, just that she’s a renowned doctor.” I slammed the table. “I know that already, fool! What else did you find out about her?” “S-she has a child, and she’s engaged to Ethan Enrique, the owner of Oriental Energy. He was recently named the richest man in the world. And he doesn’t joke with Meadow and their daughter.” “I see. That will be all. You can go for now.” If there’s anybody that will help me get Meadow back, then that would be her parents. After all, they still work for the Anderson family, and her father is still as greedy as ever. All I need to do is give him a little money

The surgery lasted for seven hours, and it was already afternoon. I was completely exhausted and famished with hunger, but I was equally happy that Mr. Anderson was able to pull through. “Nice job, Doctor Meadow. Now I see why you are the best surgeon in the world,” Doctor Zane said as we walked out of the theater together. “Thanks, Doctor Zane. It was a team effort, not just me. You also contributed to the success of the surgery,” I replied politely. Ethan and his mother ran up to us. “How’s my dad? Is he going to be okay?” he asked. His mother ran up to me, her eyes red, probably from crying or worrying too much about her husband. “Meadow, how’s my husband? Is he okay? Is he still alive?” she asked. “Yes, Mrs. Anderson. The surgery was a success, and Mr. Anderson is in the ICU now. You can go and see him once he regains consciousness,” I said. I turned to Doctor Zane. “My work here is done. I want to go home now. You can give me a call once the patient comes around.”

Woah, he really married Annabel of all people? Annabel made my life a living hell in high school. I remembered after Matt shared our sex video to the school WhatsApp group. Annabel and her group of mean girls made my life unbearable. I had wanted to change schools several times, but my parents could not afford it. She was the first person to start calling me a slut. One time, Annabel and her friends accused me of stealing from her. They dragged me to the school courtyard and, after beating me to their satisfaction and calling me unprintable names, they tore my school uniform. The whole school was cheering for her and making videos of me while they humiliated me. Matt and his friends were also among the people cheering Annabel on to continue torturing me. After that day, I would always hide under my desk or in an empty classroom just to get away from her. The day she caught me hiding inside the toilet, she and her friends forced my head down into it. I had nightmares about that

My heart sank as Meadow called me trash. Does she really hate me that much now? I was glaring at Annabel to keep quiet and stop talking, but she wasn’t listening. “I see you are still classless despite having all the money and being married to him,” Meadow said. “And listen, I wasn’t here by choice. Your dear husband begged me to come and perform his father’s surgery. So if you have any problem, you can talk it out with your husband. And stop applying too much foundation on your face; it’s bad for your skin. Take it as a doctor’s advice.” I wanted to laugh. I never knew Meadow could talk back to Annabel, given the fact that she was always scared of Annabel and her friends back in high school. I found this new side of her sexy. “Meadow, I’m sor—” But she cut me off before I could apologize. “Mr. Anderson, I don’t need your apology. And also, keep your wife in check, or else I can still pull out of your father’s surgery and I mean it,” Meadow said harshly as she entered the

When I arrived at the hospital the next morning, Doctor Zane, Matt, and his mother, along with my parents, were already waiting for me in the hallway. “Good morning, Doctor Meadow. Your new office is ready, and the files of Mr. Anderson’s medical history are also ready,” Doctor Zane said smiling. My mother rushed to hug me, but the bodyguards stopped her just in time. “Step aside, she’s my daughter,” my mother said angrily. “Meadow, tell them I'm your mom.” “Sorry, ma’am, we are following Mr. Enrique’s orders to keep Doctor Meadow safe,” the bodyguard said, still blocking her path. My mother did not argue further. My father just stood in a corner looking at me. “Meadow, it’s so nice to see you again,” Mrs. Anderson said smiling. “It’s Doctor Meadow,” I corrected her. “And please, you all don’t need to be here. I only need one relative of the patient who knows about his medical history.” “I will stay, Mom, and you and Dad can go home,” Matt said, patting his mother’s

  • HIS REGRETS    Chapter 5

I left the hospital two days later. Ethan had insisted I use his private jet instead of the one the hospital had prepared for me. He also hired four bodyguards to protect me. I knew he was scared Matt might try to harm me. As the jet landed, something stirred inside me. I was certain that Matt would spew nonsense and try to stop me from performing the surgery on his father the moment he saw me. If that happened, I wouldn’t mind flying back to New York tomorrow. The senior doctor of Avila Hospital and Matt Anderson were already waiting for me at the airport. They were holding a cardboard sign with: WELCOME TO NEW YORK, DOCTOR MEADOW ENRIQUE, boldly written on it. Matt had grown into a fine young man, though he was a spitting image of his father. He was broader now, more like a man than the crazy teen I remembered. “Welcome, Doctor Meadow. It’s a great honor to have the great Doctor Meadow Enrique in New York—” Doctor Zane said as he shook my hand. “The pleasure is mine, but
