I awoken to Kingston dressed opposite the huge standing mirror,he was in brown suits, buckling his buttons, his back turned at me. “Good morning”. I muttered, wondering how many many hours I have been asleep. The only thing I could remember was eating with his parents yesterday. “Morning”. He replied without sparing me a glance. I sat on the bed, fidgeting my fingers. “How long have I been gone?”. I asked, making me nervous. He spun and looked at me suspiciously “you have two coloured eyeballs”. He said and I tensed, everyone knows Arla never had two coloured eyeballs, the thought of what he was insinuating sent cold shivers down my spine. “Oh…yes”. I replied, avoiding his gaze. “Get ready at six pm,we will step out of the pack”. His stoic voice echoed through the room. “What?”. “A maid will be here to take your orders on your preferred food ,if I may ask,do you have any allergies?”. I tensed,my heart beating erratically. “No…..”. I lied,I couldn't miss the smirk that crossed his face. “Get ready,at 6 pm”. He walked to the door and looked at me over his shoulder,a smile flashed his face as he walked out of the room. I exhaled the breath I had been holding in,I hate the way my heart reacts when I'm with him,I don't think I'd forgive myself if I fall in love with the man meant for my sister. Sooner or later,Arla would be back and I would be free from my parent's torture. They promised to give me a better life after Arla's return, but after spending twenty one days with Kingston,I must confess he's every woman's dream. His height alone was enough to make everyone drool over him,his long auburn hair that was always packed in a bun, which always rested on his shoulders when loosened. His biceps were covered in tattoos, including his chest. I wondered why he chose to bathe himself in tattoos. To me, he's a demigod. The way he speaks makes my inner chamber throb,I wondered if I 'd ever leave without missing him. Of course,he will cast me aside once he finds out he has been lied to,or I might end up being punished. A knock came through the door, bringing me back from my reverie. “Come in”. My gaze was fixed on the door as it swung open. “Good morning my Luna”. A lady greeted me with a wife's smile as she walked toward me. “Good morning”. “The alpha had requested that you make your choice”. She placed the food menu on the bed drawer, her eyes landed on me and she blushed slightly. “I prefer meatloaf and carne”. I handed her the food menu and she collected it with a bow before walking out of the room. I quickly rushed to the giant mirror to take a look at myself.I was perplexed when I realized I was in Kingston's clothes. His shirt, which looked like a gown on me,was knee length to me. I walked back to the bed, exhausted. ******************************* I saw a black sequins gown with a slit, placed on the bed.I had slept off after having breakfast. I saw a black flat shoe placed beside it. My heart skipped a beat,as I looked at the wall clock. “It's six pm already?”. I gasped in shock, clasping my mouth with both hands. I shoved into the washroom to have a soothing shower. Few minutes later, Kingston and I were driving to the city. I sat in the front seat while he drove.I had wanted to ask him why he wasn't followed by his beta, but I dismissed it. I doubt I'll get a response. The drive was filled with intense silence until we pulled in front of an eatery, before I could have the car door opened,it had already been opened by him. “Thank you”. I muttered, trailing behind him. And again,no response. I looked around to check for other customers but it seems we were the only ones there. “We are alone”. I said, breaking the silence. He nodded in response, pulling out a chair to sit. A waiter came with a food menu,he made his choices whole. I made mine, but I felt his burning gaze on me when I was telling the waiter what I was likely to eat. “Add alcohol”. He said to the waiter emotionlessly as I gave her the food menu. Swallowing the growing lumps in my throat I looked at him,but he remained unfazed, scrolling on his phone. “Why are there no customers…..”. “I paid for it,no customer w'd be allowed in until we are finished”. His deep voice echoed, interrupting me. “Thank you”. I replied, leaning my back on the chair. His dark grey eyes met mine and he returned his gaze to his phone. “Here”. The waiter placed our food on the table, curtsied and walked away. I looked at the alcohol with a heaving heart.I'm not ready to pass out,but that we'd be the only way to prove I am Arla. Just as he was about to place his phone on the table, his phone rang. “Mom??. What's wrong with her??”. He stood up immediately and shoved his phone into his breast pocket. “I'm sorry……”. Did he just apologize?. Oh my goddess. “I have an emergency, let's head back to the pack, it's unsafe outside”. “No…..I'm okay. I w'd be back soon. You can go on”. He looked at me hesitantly before placing a quick kiss on my forehead. I gasped in shock,my eyes bulged. My heart beat sporadically as I looked at his dark grey eyes. The urge to kiss him passionately was consuming me,but I didn't let it get to me.I nodded my head in response. “I'll send River to pick you up in thirty minutes time”. He said before walking away,I watched him until he was out of sight. Returning my attention to the sumptuous food on the table,I sighed In relief. Suddenly a laughter erupted hysterically behind me, making me tense immediately. I looked over my shoulder and saw a familiar figure standing behind me, someone I recognized,Arla.Kael POVThe moment the guard stepped back, leaving only River and me in the dimly lit room, a heavy silence settled between us. The air was thick, charged with a tension I couldn’t shake. My pulse raced, my wolf thrumming anxiously beneath my skin, warning me and urging me forward at the same time.I straightened, my hands flexing at my sides, and forced my voice to stay steady. “Tell me where your alpha is. Quickly,” I said, trying to cut through the weight pressing down on us. “Seeing Natalie first doesn’t guarantee her release.”River’s eyes, dark and unreadable, swept over me like a predator inspecting its prey. I felt a jolt of heat as I met his gaze intense, consuming, and utterly undeniable. My wolf stirred violently at the sight, her pulse in sync with the rapid thrum of my own heart. A strange, traitorous part of me felt that pull, that magnetic force, and I hated it immediately. But I
Chapter 64 — Kael POVThe hallways stretched ahead of me like an endless ribbon of polished stone and shadows. The flickering torches along the walls cast elongated shapes that seemed to slither, teasing my imagination, but I reminded myself I wasn’t afraid. Not really. Not in my brother’s pack. Not with guards trailing us, alert and silent. Every step I took echoed lightly in the corridor, a soft drumbeat that matched the quickening rhythm of my own pulse. The guard leading me was a tall, broad shouldered man with a sharp gaze and an unyielding presence. He moved with practiced precision, but I couldn’t help but notice the subtle tension in his posture. He knew I was important, someone to be protected and I could feel it in every measured step he took. Even if he didn’t speak, the silent assurance of his presence was comforting.Yet, despite my confidence, curiosity gnawed at me. I had never been
Kael POVMy heart raced as I stood in the dimly lit hallway outside Ella’s room, the weight of unease pressing down on me like a living thing. The memory of the mindlink from her personal servant, the revelation that Natalie had been locked in the dungeon played over and over in my mind. My stomach twisted, a cold knot of fear tightening with every heartbeat. I couldn’t let Ella know the full extent of what was happening not yet.She had already been through too much. The day had been long, overwhelming, and disorienting. And now, knowing that her friend, the one person who had greeted her so warmly, was imprisoned… I couldn’t let her step foot outside her room. Not while danger lingered so close.“Ella,” I whispered, my voice trembling just slightly despite my efforts to sound steady. She was lying on the edge of the bed, her eyes still lingering on the pictures of her parents, trying to absorb some sens
Chapter 62 — Ella POVThe moment Natalie released me from that awkward, lingering hug, I felt a swirl of confusion and unease. Her eyes had seemed to hold something familiar, though my memory stubbornly refused to place her. Every instinct in me screamed that I should question her, ask who she was and why she knew me, but before I could even form the words, Kael stepped forward, her presence sharp and unwavering.“Nat,” Kael said with a quiet firmness, “Ella has had a very long day. She would like to rest.”Natalie’s smile didn’t falter, but I noticed the subtle twitch in her jaw, the brief flicker of impatience in her eyes. She inclined her head politely, stepping back slightly, though the way she lingered in the periphery kept my tension high.I exhaled slowly, feeling the knot in my chest loosen just a fraction. Kael’s intervention had been timely, shielding me from a confrontation I wasn’
Ella POVThe moment I sensed the shift in Kingston’s mood, a cold knot formed in my stomach. There was no mistaking it, the dark edge in his expression, the way his jaw tensed, the almost imperceptible tightening of his shoulders. My heart thudded nervously in my chest. I had never seen him like this, and instinct screamed at me to be cautious.“Kingston… are you alright?” I asked softly, my voice tentative, hesitant. I didn’t want to provoke him, not when his emotions were already fraying at the edges. He didn’t answer immediately. His eyes scanned the path ahead as if he were seeing danger where none existed, and for a moment, I wondered if I should turn back. But then he gave a small nod in my direction, almost imperceptible, and I realized it was his way of saying: trust me, stay close.I swallowed the lump in my throat and forced a small, reassuring smile. “We’ll be fine,” I whispered, mo
Kingston POVThe journey had been long, nearly a day and a half of relentless motion over unforgiving terrain but even in the weariness that weighed down my bones, I couldn’t allow myself to rest entirely. My eyes constantly scanned the horizon, alert to any hint of danger, any movement that might signal trouble.By late afternoon, we had reached a small village tucked into the valley below rolling hills. The place was picturesque, almost serene in its beauty. Cobbled streets wound their way through clusters of brightly painted houses, gardens bursting with blooms spilling color into the streets, and the soft murmur of a nearby river completed the pastoral scene. For a brief moment, I allowed myself to inhale deeply and appreciate the sight. Then I remembered why we were here, and the tight knot of responsibility constricted around my chest again. As we walked through the village, the peo
