Katie remained in the hospital bed, staring silently through the window.

Brian was missing. Damien had not come for her. And Rita, of all people, had apparently been the one who saved her life.

Nothing made sense anymore.

Emma sat beside the bed, scrolling through her phone while Katie rested against the pillows, her face still pale from everything that had happened. Neither of them noticed the television mounted on the wall until the sound suddenly changed.

The water was unusually still, stretching endlessly under a pale sky. Katie looked around, confused, trying to understand why she was there. Then she heard a voice. “Mommy!”Katie’s heart stopped as she turned toward the pool. Madison was in the water.“Madison!” Katie rushed toward her.Her little girl was struggling to stay above the surface, reaching desperately toward her. “Mommy!”“I’m coming!”Katie stepped into the water, reaching out with both hands. “Hold on to me, baby!”But just as her fingers were about to reach Madison, the little girl’s hand slipped under the water. “No!”Katie lunged forward. “Madison!”The water closed over her daughter.Katie screamed and tried to reach her, but the distance seemed to grow with every movement. “Madison!”She plunged her hands into the water. “Please!” Her voice broke. “Please, don’t leave me!”She searched desperately, but there was nothing under her hands then everything went dark. Katie jolted awake. Her eyes flew open, and she sat

Damien walked down the hallway without looking back. His footsteps were steady, but everything inside him felt like it was falling apart. He reached his bedroom and closed the door behind him.For a while, he stood there. His eyes slowly moved across the familiar space until they landed on the framed photograph sitting on the table beside the window. His mother. Damien stared at her picture for a long time. The woman in the photograph was smiling warmly, completely unaware of how much pain her decisions had caused years after she was gone. His jaw tightened. “You caused this.”His voice was barely audible. He walked toward the photograph. “If you hadn’t made that arrangement with Vivian’s family…” He stopped before the picture. “If you hadn’t decided that I was supposed to marry her, Katie wouldn’t be thinking about Vivian right now.”His eyes burned. “She wouldn’t believe she was some temporary replacement.”He picked up the photograph, staring at his mother’s face. “You left me wit

Damien had intended to give them privacy. He had already turned toward the door when Katie’s voice stopped him.“Grandma, I need to tell you something, but let it be between the two of us.”Damien’s hand paused on the doorknob. Something about the tone of her voice made him hesitate.Damien knew he should leave. This was clearly something Katie wanted to tell Rosetta privately. He remained close. Then he heard Katie speak again. “I heard him that day.”Damien froze. His fingers slowly loosened from the doorknob.Rosetta frowned. “Heard what?”“Damien and Theresa.”The words struck him immediately and Damien’s entire body stiffened.Katie took a shaky breath. “At the pool party.”His eyes narrowed. So she had heard them. That was why she had looked at him differently ever since. That was why she had become so distant. That was why she had questioned him in the car.Damien stood motionless outside the door.Katie’s voice trembled. “I heard Theresa asking him why he married me when he w

Her question took Damien aback. He stared at her, as if he had not heard correctly.“You think I released the contract?”Katie held his gaze, but she said nothing.Damien’s expression changed immediately. Confusion gave way to something deeper, almost wounded. “No,” he said firmly. “Katie, I didn’t.”She turned her face toward the window.“Everything between us was confidential,” Damien continued. “I would never release those papers without your knowledge.”Katie remained silent, watching the buildings pass outside.Damien studied her profile. “Why would I do that?”“I don’t know.” Her voice was quiet. “That’s the problem.” She swallowed. “I don’t know who I can trust anymore.”Those words made Damien’s chest tighten. He shifted closer, his gaze never leaving her.“Katie.”She finally looked at him.“I know things are complicated right now,” he said, his voice softer. “And I know you have every reason to question me after everything that happened. But I need you to believe me about

Katie didn’t know when sleep finally took over. One moment, she had been lying under the hospital blanket, staring at the ceiling while her thoughts fought against one another, and the next, everything had gone quiet. When she opened her eyes again, the room was dim and the curtains were drawn. For a few seconds, she couldn’t remember where she was. Then she turned her head.Damien was sitting beside her bed. His head had fallen against the edge of the mattress, his eyes closed, one hand resting near hers as if he had fallen asleep while waiting for her to wake.Katie stared at him silently. He looked exhausted. His usually neat appearance was disheveled, and faint shadows lay under his almond eyes. Seeing him like that made something ache inside her, but she quickly pushed the feeling away. She slowly reached for the hospital blanket and carefully pulled it over his shoulders. The movement made Damien stir. His eyes opened almost immediately. He looked confused. Then his gaze met her

Brian remained tied to the chair, his wrists aching from the restraints, but he refused to lower his head.Adrian stood near the broken window, staring into the darkness outside. His expression was strangely calm now, almost too calm for someone who had just kidnapped a man. Then he turned around. “You know what I find interesting, Brian?”Brian said nothing.Adrian walked slowly toward him. “For years, the Stark family has lived as if the world belongs to them. Their companies, their wealth, their influence…” He gave a bitter laugh. “Everything was handed to them while my family was left with nothing.”Brian frowned. “What are you talking about?”Adrian stopped in front of him. “My father.”Brian’s expression changed.Adrian’s eyes darkened. “The Stark family forgot him.” He crouched slightly so they were at eye level. “They took everything from him, watched him fall, and then continued living as though nothing had happened. Do you know what that taught me?”Brian remained silent.“I
