INICIAR SESIÓN
Khalid is my mate. The realization seemed more and more untrue as I thought about it. Bell, my wolf, couldn’t contain her excitement and wanted to be in the arms of her mate immediately. And so did I.
But as I watched his graceful and eloquent movement, my heart shattered into a thousand pieces. Khalid was the son of the Alpha—the first son for that matter. And me, a poor and weak Omega girl, was mated to him. How in the universe would that work? I was in the very lowest of class and he was in the very highest. There was no way he wouldn’t be despised by my existence if he realized his mate was an Omega. Just as I was looking at him, his eyes suddenly met mine. All the pores in my body froze at that moment. Time seemed to stand still as our gazes locked. I felt like I was drowning in the depths of his eyes. But then, his gaze shifted, almost immediately. And I wondered if he had really looked at me or I was seeing things. As I stood there, lost in thought, the head of maids appeared beside me, her voice piercing the air. “Hey, you! Dirty thing. What are you looking at?” I turned to face her, my heart still reeling from the shock of seeing Khalid. She was a huge woman, an Omega twice my age, and pompous too. Many Omegas get rejected if their mates aren’t also Omegas, and if their mates happen to hate Omegas. But if they're lucky enough to get accepted by a non-Omega mate, they're immediately respected. And even though they're still Omegas, no one dares address them as that again. Because the title of your husband is your title. That was the case with this head maid. She was mated to the Chief of Gamma, and she'd taken it upon herself to insult and abuse Omegas whenever she could, because she was “no longer” one of us. “If only you could work half as hard as you stare into space. You have a tray in your hands, but you'd rather stand there, stare, and daydream of things you'll never be. Now get out of my sight and make yourself more useful.” Her words stung, but I knew better than to react. I bowed and walked away, the weight of her disdain settling heavy on my shoulders. As I made my way to the kitchen, the sounds of the celebration grew louder. Today was the Alpha's birthday, and the pack house was buzzing with activity. Dancers performed with loud music in the pack hall, while men fought with swords for entertainment. The rest of the pack enjoyed the endless food and drink, but the Omegas were left to work, unpaid and unappreciated. My stomach growled as I poured drinks into the tiny glasses on the tray. I hadn't eaten since morning, and it was already after 6PM. My job was to serve drinks, and later, I'd join the other maids to wash the dishes. Just another day in the life of an Omega. Someone nudged at me, and I turned to see a sweating Nora. She was also an Omega and a maid like me—one around my age who always insulted the world and its unfairness. “Mia. There you are.” She smiled at me and looked around us. “We should disappear into one of the empty stores and eat something. The house is so busy. Nobody would notice.” I looked at her suspiciously. Nora had always been a risk-taker and had never been caught once, even though I’ve never agreed to being her accomplice. “And our duties?” “Mia,” she pouted. “I’m starting to wonder if you enjoy working. There are many other maids in the house. You think it would matter if nobody sees us for a few minutes?” I rolled my eyes and hissed, slowly moving out of the room with the tray in my hands. I felt the mate bond as I walked, and I threatened to shut Bell out if she kept being restless, even though I knew I couldn’t. “Maid,” someone called, which prompted me to look. A man wearing a silk robe waved at me. From his appearance, I could tell he was one of the guests from another pack. I bowed as I handed him the tray so he could take a cup. He took one, and I bowed again before turning to leave. “Wait.” He walked from behind me to stand at my front. “You look quite ravishing for a maid, even despite the fact that you stink.” I stood still, staring straight at him. His words must sound demeaning to his ears, but somehow they didn’t hurt me one bit. I’ve heard worse in my life, and I’ve felt worse. I was just a little annoyed that he was wasting my time. “Thank you. But I have to continue my duties now.” I made sure to bow again and started walking away before he held my shoulder. “Where do you think you’re going? I’m not done with you. Hand that tray to any other maid or drop it on the floor and come with me.” I tried to suppress my anger as I thought of what to say to him. “With all due respect, my Lord, the head maid won’t like that. There are many more people I need to serve and—” “This dirty Omega. Since when is it that your type has the right to object to the actual wolves? Do you know who I am?” “I don’t care who you are! Go fuck yourself and leave me alone,” I screamed at him, and then realized that it hadn’t come from me but from a furious Bell. His “actual wolves” comment had triggered Bell, who was already anxious from the thought of never being compatible with her mate. He was shocked at my outburst, or rather Bell’s. But how do I explain to him that my wolf sometimes works on her own and I hadn’t meant to insult him? My body trembled where I stood. I knew there would be vast consequences for what I just did. I felt some presence starting to thicken around us, including other maids that were confused about what just happened and wondering if they actually heard me insult a highly esteemed guest. “You…” I heard him growl. “You’re going to pay for this.” Claws extended from his fingertips. And with a flash, I saw it coming for my face before I heard a louder growl. “Don’t you dare lay hands on my mate!”MIAI pulled away, my heart drumming. “D-Dilan. How are you here?” I hadn't prepared myself to see him again. I didn't know what to say.Dilan was dressed in a white shirt and black pants. His hair was rough, but in a way that looked intentional. His face wasn't happy, but it wasn't sad either—though looking deep, I could see the latter more.I didn’t know if it was just to me. But… everyone seemed so different now.“I came late last night but missed all the action,” he chuckled. “It’s crazy, isn’t it?”I nodded. My mind immediately went to Khalid. What would he do if he found out Dilan was here?“Eva told me what happened,” he said, looking at me. My breath hitched when our eyes met, and I had to look away.“Okay,” I responded, not knowing what else to say.“Seriously, you made the right choice. I’m not offended one bit. I’m saying this just in case there's a 0.00001 percent chance you think I am.”I snorted, playing along with his joke. “I don’t care if you’re offended. Who do you t
MIAKhalid jumped off the bed. As he looked down, our eyes met, and I got the message immediately. He was going to check who was at the door. I got off the bed too, noticing for the first time that I was wearing something else. One of the maids—or more likely, Khalid—must have helped me change. I began to wonder how long I’d slept, then remembered that Khalid mentioned it was already morning. As I followed slowly behind him, thoughts of the previous day kept flashing in my mind. How had I managed to avoid being killed by that soldier? Back when Eva commented on how strong my push had been, I hadn't believed her. But after everything that happened yesterday, I finally started to believe I was actually stronger than I imagined.I thought Khalid would ask who was at the door first, but instead, he opened it like he’d been praying the person on the other side had come for a fight. He didn’t open the door fully, so I couldn't see out at first.“Y-your Greatness,” a very familiar voice said
MIABefore Khalid could even reach him, the guards had already seized the man. But they didn’t stop Khalid from dragging the assassin from their hands while they hurried to attend to the Alpha. All the servants were screaming. People were moving back and forth in a frantic blur of confusion.I just stood there watching, my legs seemingly tied to the ground. The man who had stabbed the Alpha was dressed in black, and though I couldn’t see him clearly, I could tell he was older than Khalid—maybe even a decade older.Khalid punched him repeatedly, his movements so fast they made my vision blur. He dragged the man, whose face was already bloodshot, toward a nearby pillar, not giving him a single chance to breathe.“Who sent you? Who did this? My brother?!” Khalid was shaking him violently. But the man’s eyes were half-shut from the beating, and even with the blood masking his face, I watched as he smiled in sick accomplishment.Meanwhile, Alpha William had been rushed away. More than half
MIAAfter driving several hours away from the city, we made a stop at a small town. It was early afternoon. Khalid said I needed to eat lunch, as we’d soon completely be out of the human lands—and then our next stop would have to be at the pack.Too tired to argue, I got out of the car and followed him into a restaurant. But the reality was that I only needed to use the bathroom. Minutes later, when I was done, I returned to meet him in the restaurant. But I froze when I saw the amount of food on the table.Khalid wasn’t eating but had his attention on a book I’d seen on the table when we walked in. When I left for the bathroom, our table was empty, so why did he order all of this food when I never even told him I was hungry in the first place?I stood there, frowning at him, but he still didn’t remove his attention from the book he was reading. “Be fast, please. There’s no time to waste.”“But there’s food to waste, obviously. Because I’m not eating these.”The place was half-filled,
MIA“We should go somewhere covered, then shift and run together,” I said to Khalid, smiling as I wrapped my arms around him.It felt like I was flying—as if I was literally in the clouds. No words could ever explain the emotions flowing through me right now. We’d managed to cross the expressway to the other side without being detected, but now, Khalid kept looking around. Maybe it was because of the joy and satisfaction in my stomach, but I wasn’t even bothered about our surroundings anymore.Suddenly, Khalid freed his arms from mine and held my hand instead. “We’ll do that when we get back to the pack. Not here.”“But…” I began to argue, then stopped. “Wait, how did you get to the human world? And how are we going back?”“I came with my car,” he said, scanning the area. Several people were starting to walk past us, and our faces were still exposed. It was then the fear slowly entered my chest again. I began to understand why he seemed so paranoid.“Where is your car?”“At the hotel,
MIAWe’ve finally left Steve’s house. I had my hand in Khalid’s palm as he led me forward toward the same path we arrived at last night. My heart was heavy, and my head was occupied with thoughts that made it difficult to walk. After Steve’s story and his advice to us, we had talked for some more time. Khalid even stepped aside with him so they could talk alone. Shortly after they came back, Khalid told me that we were leaving. Of course, I knew we had to leave soon. But at that moment, something clamped at my chest. I hadn't known Steve or the house for even a day, and yet I felt so familiar with him and everything. When I looked at Steve, he’d smiled at me and said he hoped to see us one day—maybe when we had kids, so he'd tell them about our time in his house. I smiled back and let out a little laugh. But regretfully, a tear also fell from my eyes. I wiped it off before anyone could ask questions. There was a jarring intensity of pain in Steve’s house. I just knew he would go back
