MIA

“…Do you always open your doors to strangers at night?”

The question was so random it ripped my train of thoughts apart. But surprisingly, Steve immediately replied. “Yes, I do. I actually invited one in once, and we ended up being best friends.”

I realized my wolf senses were starting to work better when I heard a soft chuckle from Khalid.

“Wow. You expect me to believe that?”

“Kha—” I stopped myself before I could finish, cursing in my head that we didn't use our real names. “Dilan, you’re being rude to our host!”

Khalid started to say something but was cut off by Steve. “No, it’s okay, actually. It’s hard to believe, even for me. But the truth is I do have people over. My neighbors know me. I have four bedrooms in this house. Two upstairs and two down. And…” he paused. When I looked at his face, I saw a flicker of pain in his eyes. “I had a wife once. But we’re divorced. It was supposed to be a family home.”

I looked over at Khalid, angry at both myself and him. My eyes were sa

MIA“Go get me the drink now, Ana. I’m thirsty.”Khalid… I cursed inside my head. I would kill him if we got in private. I refused to open my eyes. Steve’s presence was still in the room. I could feel it, and I could tell he was staring at us. At me. No. I wasn’t going to open my eyes. I wasn’t going to face him after what he had just witnessed. What was more, I couldn’t even move.“Ana!” Khalid called again. This time his voice didn't come from behind me. I had a feeling he'd gone to sit on one of the chairs. I balled my own fists in extreme rage, ready to pour it all out. I would call him his real name just to spite him—but doing that would affect both of us, not just him. And why did he still call me Ana after commanding me to stop calling him—“Well, Dilan…” Steve’s response was floating, like he couldn't quite tell what direction it was going. I couldn’t see him, but it sounded like he too felt awkward. Khalid had turned everything around, and it didn’t take him ten minutes. I wa

  • HOW TO KILL THE OMEGA LUNA   Chapter 91

MIAWe followed Steve up to his house, walking slowly and silently behind him. The house was the one right in front of where we had sat down. As we got closer, I noticed all the lights were off. Still, I could see it was a two-story house. I wondered if his family would mind our presence. Steve opened the door, and I turned to look at Khalid. He was staring at the ground, looking like a statue. He hadn’t said a word since I called him Dilan. But I wasn’t sure how that made me feel. When Steve opened the door and stepped in, the light came on. He held the door for us to enter too, a friendly smile on his face. I moved forward to enter, but suddenly something held me back. I froze for a second and looked up into Khalid’s dark eyes glaring down at mine. Quickly, he walked into the house first. Steve stepped aside as he did. Their eyes met.I stood paralyzed as they stared at each other, a malicious look on Khalid’s face. Then my eyes moved to his hands, clenched into fists at his

MIAAt the sound of the gunshot, I froze, paralyzed. In an instant, Khalid bent me low to the ground and covered me with his body. I trembled in his hold, my eyes fixed on the pavement. What could that be? Had they somehow found us already? “K-Khalid,” I said nervously, trying to get up. But Khalid stopped me, covering me even more. I couldn’t see what was happening, and the lack of vision made my panic worse. “K-Kha—”“It’s okay, Mia,” he said, his voice surprisingly calm. Wait. Was he just lying here to shield me from bullets? Or was there something else going on? Soon, I heard footsteps coming towards us. “Khalid, I’m fine, really. You don’t have to—”“Shut up,” Khalid said sharply, sounding annoyed. My heart skipped a beat at his tone, and a surge of my own irritation grew. I pushed away from his body before he could react and stood up. “M-Mia,” he cursed under his breath as I stood. But I didn’t care any longer. Standing in front of us was a man who looked in his early

KHALIDI held Mia firmly as we ran—ran with no clear direction in mind. It was dark, but the city was alive, its lights watching us like silent eyes as we turned corner after corner to escape our chasers.Mia was panting, but not as hard as I expected. She was in good shape, and I was grateful for that. She hadn’t pulled me down or stopped to look back even once. She understood the danger and didn’t want to make things harder.Earlier, when I first entered the room, I’d managed to loosen the barricade from the window. I hadn’t thought it would be useful; I really didn’t expect anyone to come after me at the motel. But I believed it wouldn’t hurt to set up a precaution. My plan was simple: if they burst the room door, I would jump out the window. Still, I was surprised it worked out so well. Some of the chasers had followed us out the window, shouting loud as they pursued. But we were too fast and durable thanks to our wolf parts, so their chase died out at some point. As we ran, we pa

DILANAnother news segment began to play on the TV, but my eyes remained fixed on the screen, still seeing Khalid’s image on the monitor. I’d known all along that he was probably in the human world, but the confirmation was still a shock.‘If only I still had Mia in my possession,’ my heart broke at the thought.I wondered where Mia was. I wondered where she’d run off to and if she was safe. I wondered if Eva had accidentally let her flee like she claimed—or if she’d let Mia go on purpose to spite me. I had a strong feeling Eva had let her go. Perhaps it was only after Mia had left that Eva realized what she’d done. If I found out that was what happened… I could really kill someone.“Boss,” Victor’s voice broke through my thoughts.I turned to him. He was a lot more serious now, and there was an unmistakable fear in his eyes. A smile crept up inside me, and I let it show for a moment. Victor feared Khalid. He was terrified that Khalid was in the human world and that their paths would
