Chapter 4: The Glorious Lifestyle Of Steel Cowboys
Room 42, Kings Canyon Motel, Roadside Motel, Unknown City, South Dakota....
Revving engines filled the surrounding air as "Brick" and his gang lined the parking lot and prepared to take off down the long and winding road in continuation of their journey and the party that seemed to never end whenever they were together. There were about nine of them hitting the road all together and each and everyone of them carried the blood of a beast inside their veins as they fuled up on cocain and alcohol while tearing through town after town reveling in the new found freedom their lifestyle had afforded them. Each member of The Howlers M.C wore a patch and each member sported the classic black leather cut that solidified their unity. Much like the many riders of mortal means, the club was their life. And they wouldn't hesitate to take anyone out that attempted to bring harm to either one of their members. They were a family after all, more so than any mortal knew given their hidden beast blood and as a result bonded via a loyalty unwavering.
Marrok Phalen Kenneally aka Brick was the de facto leader of the club whom had put the idea together after catching a biker gang unawares during one of his patrols to keep mortals away from the Moonwood pack's territory. The idea of open roads and endless freedom appealed more and more to him especially when he and his father regularly clashed about his future and potential duties as Alph of the pack when his time came to step down. Brick had no intention of assuming the old man's mantle, especially when the last thing he wanted was to be stuck amid the endless forests of Millwood, Minnesota.
He had not been alone in his ideas as he found himself supported by pack members:
Gunther "Gunner" Reeves, an old man that once ran with his father.
Arthur "Gearhead"Carrey, the youngest mechanic with an obsession with cars and bikes alike.
Ike "Ironclad"Eric Forman, a resident badass whom had been mostly muscle for the pack ever since he reached puberty.
Jeffrey "Rooster" Allen BolMont, his godfather and father's best friend sent on the journey to "keep Brick out of trouble".
Richard "Riffraff" Harris the resident runt of the pack whom the Alpha had little to no patience for.
Thomas "Taz"Michelson, a new recruit and recently shifted youth.
Jason "Doc" Coderory the resident younger doctor of the pack whom was a fresh graduate of med school student before being attacked by a werewolf and infected before he could return home following summer vacation.
Daphne "Goldie" Hoover was the only female member and the girl friend of Taz whom road bitch on his bike when they hit the road. She too had werewolf blood and something of a golden transformation whenever she was in the light of the full moon.
For Brick there was never a dull moment for him when he'd been with his gang, whether they hit up an unsuspecting town or pulled into the woods for a bond fire and good times, it was a treat to be out and about among them.
He lead the gang out of the parking lot, taking his rightful position as leader and President of Howler M.C. on the back of a black and silver Harley letting the smoke from his exhaust fill the lot before taking off down the highway. Rooster and Gunther followed in their respective positions as they all managed to ride in formation when leaving the motel parking lot behind along with the still slumbering blonde whom, Brick had his way with one last time before their collective departure.
Gearhead, Riffraff, Doc, Ironclad, and Taz followed on their respective bikes with Ironclad heading up the rear to watch their collective backs as Goldie clung to Taz's body via her seat on the back of his bike. She seemed to enjoy the fast pace and open air almost as much as Taz had.
Brick and his gang weren't much for wearing safety gear, seeing it something of a joke due to being fast healing werefolk. His short dark brown locks were wild and untamed much like the rest of him when riding and as thick as his beard. His grey eyes were blocked from the harsh blaze of the sun via thick black sunglasses and he wore a single silver hooped earring in his left ear as well as fingerless black leather gloves on his massive rough calloused hands as he gripped the handlebars of his bike enjoying the purr of the engine and the vastness of the open road. He could feel the steel horse as if it was trying to breathe fire between his legs as he moved down the winding highway zipping passed bystanders and other vehicles alike along the way.
He enjoyed the feel of his cut taking in the fast moving air as his bike continued to zip passed cars and trucks that lined the highway and occasionally he would veer in and out of traffic just to make the surrounding mortals uncomfortable.
Brick seemed to have a zest for life ever since he'd been born of course it had mostly come from his parents and their wild days prior to settling down and taking over the pack when their time came. Fitz was big on motorcycles and even fought in vietnam during his time among humans before returning to his roots and after finding his mate Aubrey "Queenie" Renee Daniels-Kenneally. It shocked the old fogies to no end to see Old Fitz bring home a mortal woman of dark complexion and medical talent to be presented before his old Irish father as his future wife and mother of the elder Alpha's grandchildren.
The pack leader Keller had not taken too kindly to allowing a mortal woman in the pack and as a result found himself challenged by Fitz whom had managed to kill him and claim the title of Alpha for himself before marrying Aubrey whom had agreed to take on wereblood to live among them. During the height of the full moon it was discovered that Aubrey was were all along and her blood was dormant until she heard the song of Luna for herself and further solidified her status as Alpha female of the pack.
If one were to observe him now, many would say there had been quite a bit of Aubrey in Marrok whether he wished to admit it or not. Even if no one else acknowledged it, Rooster never hesitated to bring it up to him every chance he got.
Where Brick Kenneally went, his gang followed and come hell or high water it would be that way until they said when.
Chapter 5: An Uneventful School DayForest Lake High School, Temperance, South Dakota.... Layla arrived at the front of the school with plenty of time as Derrick exited his mother's car, a white four door sedan and approached her just as Amy came rushing up to them clutching her loose books into her chest with both arms. It seemed they were down to being a just a trio once more with Casey off doing her cheerleader thing and they made their way toward the front doors of the school after meeting up. It was still quite warm out and all of the other students were taking their collective sweet time to file inside before the bell rang. This day seemed just as unappealing and mundane as all of the other days and nights Layla spent in Temperance. She just had her friends and dreams for her future to keep her going despite not even wanting to climb out of bed much of the time. The none too eager students made their journey into the school veering off toward their respective 1st period c
Chapter 6: Welcome To Temperance The Roadside, Temperance, South Dakota.... Brick took a few moments to drain the main vein along the side of the highway as he veered off toward the open grassland and swiftly unzipped his jeans and took hold of the enormous trouser snake that had been within. He grunted in relief as the steady stream of dark yellow urine was expelled from his formerly aching bladder. His keen eyes took in the sight of the surrounding land and the up cropping of a town a few miles out. He smirked when he noted the quiet little place not far from the road sign where he'd chosen to relieve himself and the almost faded black lettering on the formerly white square sign that read "WELCOME TO TEMPERANCE". It was interesting to see that they had made it all the way to South Dakota on their random journey and now were set to enter the apparently sleepy town of Temperance. Brick smirked at the sign and turned his attention back to relieving himself along the highway m
Chapter 7: An Obnoxious New ArrivalThe Roadside, Temperance, South Dakota... Layla Quinn had a long day and wasn't in the least looking forward to what was awaiting her when she returned home to the two-bedroom yellow house in the middle of the woods that she shared with her father and his annoying slobbery rottweiler. She barely managed to get through the final stretch of class before her mind went completely blank in terms of having mental burnout from being overwhelmed and decidedly stressed due to her day. Lunch was the only positive thing about it and even then they had to talk about their respective upcoming classes. When the school bell rang it was a bittersweet experience as she knew that the day was only going to begin all over again and she'd have to part from her friends who had their stuff to do as far as after-school work and chores are done. With her mind now on the subject of work, Layla looked at her watch and sighed knowing that if she had not hurried she'd mi
Chapter 8: First SightEarl's Diner, Temperance, South Dakota... The moment Layla Quinn looked up from wiping down the front counter, she couldn't help but roll her eyes at the sight at the opposite end of the diner where she had taken note of the owners of the various motorcycles that were parked outside. It didn't take much to convince her that they were a group that had been nothing but trouble from the looks of them, even the blonde who had a fondness for exhibition with her boyfriend looked to be of the trouble-making sort. Of all the ruffians clad in black leather that she took note of, none had stood out more than the apparent ring leader who seemed to be the most laid back of them all as he turned up his brown glass bottle of beer as his dark eyes seemed to peer into her very being as she stood at the front counter unsure how best to proceed as she returned his gaze. It was an odd thing, she had forgotten what she was supposed to be doing and couldn't seem to take he
Chapter 9: Uncanny HeroicsThe Back Alley, Earl's Diner, Temperance, South Dakota... Grey eyes met those of terrified blue only briefly as Brick found himself quickly approaching the scene where Layla Quinn found herself held at knifepoint following her decision to get some much-needed air outside the nearby diner after attempting to sort through feelings that seemed to spring upon her out of the clear blue sky shortly after coming into contact with Brick for the very first time. The fury that filled the newly arrived werewolf had been so intense that his grey eyes shifted into a glowing red as he rushed over toward the distressed Layla catching the knife-wielding psychopath off guard and ramming him via his neck into the dumpster and proceeded to pound the already thin frail man into the ground with raging fists. He had not recalled much aside from the blood oozing from the bastard who had dared to attempt a robbery, and the sheer terror that was filed across the face of the youn
Chapter 10: A Sea Of Confusing ThoughtsThe Quinn Residence, Backwoods, Temperance, South Dakota... Finally making it home after the long day she had and the events of the diner, Layla had not been surprised to see that Jarrett left the house a complete mess for her to have to spend hours cleaning despite everything she'd already had to do at work and school before she even got to finish her homework. She sighed as she stepped inside the stuffy old yellow house and began her long-labored task of cleaning it before her father returned from his rare job appearances. He had let the rottweiler out into the backyard and tied him up to his dog house, a small favor if ever there was from him. He knew that Layla had a lot to clean and that she and his dog had not been best friends. His desire to see the house cleaned trumped his need to make his daughter feel uncomfortable about bringing anyone over while he'd been away. For once Layla was glad of it after everything that happened wi
Chapter 11: Making Something Out Of NothingThe Local Bar and Grill, Temperance, South Dakota... Brick Kenneally sat alone at the bar while his fellow gang members enjoyed their respective drinks and time with the ladies who had taken a liking to them. His mysterious grey eyes were intently focused on the dark brown liquid that swirled about in the fat round glass he clasped so tightly in his right hand. A thick layer of white smoke filled the place due to the constant addition of various cigarettes that had been lit all around him. The neon glow of the signs did little to combat the semi-darkness that filled the place and the soft echo of the music from the nearby jukebox played in the background mostly ignored by all aside from those closest to it in a range that could hear the song. Everywhere there was chatter and people hugged one another kissing and so forth. Brick continued to stare down into the bottom of his glass as he thought back to the afternoon in the alley behind
Chapter 12: A Dreamer's HeartThe Backwoods, The Quinn Residence, Temperance, South Dakota... Alone in the house, as night began to overtake the last lights of the afternoon sun, Layla Quinn found herself in her bedroom with many a textbook and notebook spread along her bed as she lay back against the pillows with her pencil having dropped from her grasp and onto the nearby floor following her dozing off after finally completing the last of her homework. She'd finally finished her English essay when sleep caught up to her and remained so for several hours as the day gave way to night and there was still no sign of Jarrett coming home despite the house being cleaned from top to bottom. Layla found herself awakening after being startled by her dream as once more she found herself back at the diner with the older man clad in a biker cut, she seemed to have memorized all of his patches and then some as he pressed her up against the nearby wall their tongue's warring as if both of th
