The least he could do was slam those papers to her face? Despite everything they built and worked hard for. They weren't just couples, they were also business partners and Josette had undoubtedly been the brains behind the empire's success and after everything, he was handing her a divorce paper— urging her to sign it.

Josette wasn't surprised. She was simply disappointed. Not at her husband but at herself. He made her do dirty work for him, she involved herself with his rivals, she bribed many officials just so the empire could grow more, she sold out information to wealthy men just so their competitors could be defeated. It got to an extent where she was forced to sleep with an agent from their competitors, sneaking out information from him. All these were done just so her husband could succeed but no matter what she did, she just could never please him.

" Sign the damn contract, Josette."

" I wouldn't until you tell me why you want a divorce."

Her husband sighed, rubbing a hand down to his face due to frustration. They had been married for six months— less than a year of marriage that was at the edge of collapse. Josette looked down at the papers, stakes of pain drove through her chest, crashing her heart so much that it brought tears to her eyes. She loved him. She had always loved him but he did otherwise. And despite how he treated her sometimes, she always fought herself, convincing her mind that he would change.

" You are beginning to get out of hand. You're taking actions that could bring down my business. Oh! You think I didn't know about the backdoor deals you've been making? I told you not to get involved with the LuxCore Enterprise but what did you do? You stole their resources and handed them out. Your IP address could have cost me everything, I had to get Landon to erase the breach before they tracked it back to you."

He slammed his hands on the table. His eyes held solid anger, disgust and hatred. How could she have made a breach? She was a good hacker and she did everything flawlessly.

" You know better than to let me slip out of your fingers, Benson. Just one piece of data and your empire falls."

" You wouldn't dare do such a thing." He straightened, pulling off his officious glasses and tucking it inside his shirt.

" I have more information that can jeopardize your livelihood." They were both at fifty-fifty. If she sold him out, he had evidence against her backdoor deals and illegal involvement with illegal sites. Hence, all personal deals she had with them would be cut off and exposed. She didn't say much. She picked up the pen, took the paper and glanced at the signature space reserved for her.

" I want some of my shares from the empire. I can deal with fifty percent." Benson laughed.

" Nothing close to my empire will be handed to you. You have my house, my cars and a million dollars waiting for you in your new account."

" I disagree. One— one million? Are you damn real? I could spend that in less than a week. For all I know, I am a big part of the CipherTech Empire. You've been the face these whole time but I've been the brains. You will fall without me and you will beg to come back to me, Benson. You will regret everything you are doing now."

Her husband's face remained nonchalant. He couldn't care less. He never did. And she was right, she had been an essential part of Empire's brains but he could fully survive without her. He had other experts. Josette bit her lips unconsciously. Noticing that her husband wasn't ready to take any move, she signed the divorce papers and slammed it on his chest. She was going to make him regret it and she would make sure he begged and worshipped her like his father used to. It's been weeks since they departed. Josette was left with nothing much. He had taken over the joint account they shared and left her with a million dollars— as he had told her.

She sold two of her cars, one remaining but she never relented from doing her dirty work. Hacking into resources to get information and selling them off to her clients who paid her finely. She made sure not to leave any breach with each task she finished. It had been over a month since their departure and over a month since she started receiving threats from unknown profiles, some claiming they know of her ideal identity and that they have a stockpile of records of her illegal data. Others she presumed were scammers who were trying to rob her. She didn't put much thought into this as she simply blocked out every one of them. She sipped from her alcoholic drink, staring at the evening sky as rain began to drop. Her best friend promised to stop by that evening so they could both go to a club and so she waited.

One ding on her door and she scurried out to get it. But when she opened the door, there was no one there, instead there was a box package on her doorstep. Perhaps, her best friend, Fina sent it? She doubted. Josette took the box and shut the door. Eager to know what was in it, she unboxed it and there were two things. First, a letter. She picked it up and read the scribbled words.

*I see you've blocked me out but could you really block me out of your life? You need me Josette Montgomery just the same way I need you. Now, flip the letter.*

And when she flipped it she was hit by pure shock and annoyance. A picture of her stood there along with three of her fake identities that she had used for her clients. She squeezed the letter fiercely and took out the other content from the box. It was a rose and a tiny piece of paper attached to it.

*I heard you love roses so I bought this for you. Keep it, you'll need it, trust me.— Zade.*

She took a sharp inhale with a racing heart and a feeling of dread cold sinking in.

The morning was almost here. Zade was still sitting in Jane's room, his head over the couch, his drowsy eyes were on the playing video from his laptop. When he looked at Jane, she was asleep already. Zade stood, closing the laptop, one glance at his wristwatch and he sighed. He made sure to head off but also made sure to draw the duvet over Jane's body. Her blood dried on her hands, reaching her face. The sewing thread and needles still ripped her fingers, Zade exhaled shakily before heading outside.Almost getting to the meeting room, he heard furious talks coming from there but the moment he went in, everyone stopped talking. " I am sorry for arriving this late."" Fuck your ass, Zade. Seriously? Twenty damn minutes. Where the hell were you?"Bryan retorted. " Busy."Zade walked to his seat, he looked over at Caden who sat across from him then back at the video call. It was just Rebekah and Bryan." So, how'd it go?"Bryan asked." We got the weapon. He handed it so easily to us..

When she confirmed he was gone, she hopped out of the bathroom and went to return the shampoo where she had taken it from. There were goosebumps all over her body and she wasn't sure if it was because he had touched her or because she had reacted in a way neither of them expected. His hands on her skin didn't feel the same, it felt bizarre— colder, more fierce that it made her unsettled in a way. She went to her closet, longing for something comforting to wear for the night but by the time she opened it, something fell off. It was a blue rose, she picked it up, glanced back inside her closet and saw two others sitting there. There was a note— it piqued her curiosity as she took it out and read the piece. [For the daughters we both lost.]And her breath felt short. Tears came into her irises. She remembered Sophia and it wasn't like she ever forgot her daughter... it was just that she had been so occupied with her feelings that she gave less attention to her. And she regretted it

One glance and all she saw was blur. One movement and all she felt was ache but regardless, she moved, sitting on the couch she had fallen asleep on and cleaning her eyes to adjust her sight. There were two figures sitting across her. She couldn't recognize them at first but after numerous blinks, she got them. Her drowsy eyes moved from them and looked around. The light didn't flicker anymore and there were no strange noises that could make her puke. She redirected her gaze back to them, rubbing her hands together to warm herself." Feeling cold, honey?"She looked at the lady— fresh milky skin with long beautiful lashes. Even her brows were beautifully styled in an upward manner. She had plum lips— a black lipstick on. Her hair dyed black with the tip being gray. Looking at the lady seated on Don Junior's legs, it felt as though she was staring at her mirror reflection— but a more matured, more beautiful and sexy version." I'm fine!"She spoke back, pushing off the tears that th

Don Junior went to stand behind her, leaning just close to her earlobe while the placement of his hands went behind his back. Josette weakened, she struggled to move but her entire bones seemed paralyzed. It was strange though as she could clearly process everything the Don spoke, strengthening her anxiety." Do you ever wonder why he never says those words you've been dying to hear? why he never fights for you?" His voice was calm— it was low and he spoke in longer breaths." He sees her in you, Josette and you know that but he made you believe a different version that he wanted you to believe."He left her, walking far from where she sat. A mutter left her mouth." If you think he loves you, why has he handed you so easily to me? All for what? A weapon? You're worthless to him, darling."The light flickered, a strange subtle daunting noise played... but then it stopped." Josette."She panted. Her face was covered in sweat. Her gaze went to him. He now stood at her front, kneeling.

The dress was too perfect. Despite her small curves, she still looked really beautiful in it. The dress was a gold sequence— seamlessly flowing down to her legs while it had a long slit up to her thigh and black heels that complimented her fashion. A maid had just finished making her hair— adding adornments. When she finished dressing, she went down, the brothers were already there. Zade was dressed in his favourite corset vest and brocade suit with glittering shoes and Caden wore nothing more than an office suit— with the way he was looking, anyone could tell he hated what he wore." Thought you already ran away, hiding."Caden spoke when he saw her, adjusting his tie. " I'm sorry, I didn't know I took so long."Their mini discussion caught Zade's attention. He looked up at her, there was a subtle look of admiration on his face. " Are you ready?"He asked instead and cleared his throat afterwards. She nodded her head even though her spirit yearned to turn away from their little m

He never intended to get more roses, the feel of having to hold it made him quiver a little. Selena loves roses. Josette loved roses. Those two seemed more alike than anyone could even imagine. He drove off and got out of the car when he arrived at the mansion. The light inside reflected, bright enough to convince an outsider that this was a happy home but Zade didn't see his family that way." Psychopathic weirdos."He muttered and headed inside. It was already getting late— about seven o'clock pm and with every strike from the clock, Zade realized how close Josette's birthday was. In less than five days. He wore a frown, attempting to stride up the stairs to meet his wife but he stopped when he came across her figure, she was heading outside and she hadn't taken notice of him. Zade followed her calmly, sighting her fragile figure looking up at the sky." Cold night." His voice bolted her. She looked at him, crossing her arms nervously. " No. It's actually warm."She returned
