Chapter 1

Author: Windswept
With the wedding approaching, Logan Bradshaw's childhood friends threw him a bachelor party.

Everyone in Logan's close circle knew how much he adored me. If he didn't bring me along, he'd undoubtedly rush home before 10:00 pm, regardless of whether the others enjoyed themselves.

So this time, they warmly invited me as well.

However, the moment I stepped inside, I sensed something was off.

Everyone greeted me enthusiastically, yet I caught them subtly exchanging glances with Logan. I had no idea what was going on.

Once everyone was seated, a short-haired woman arrived fashionably late.

"Sorry, I'm late! Traffic was terrible!"

She was tall and slender, and her voice was crisp and confident.

Beside me, Logan instantly tensed up. For the first time in my life, I saw what it looked like when someone's heart skipped a beat.

The woman beamed at me and extended her hand.

"You must be the bride-to-be. Nice to meet you! I'm Leah Powell."

The second I heard her name, everything clicked into place. Leah was Logan's first love—the girl he had adored for five years.

From what I was told, Logan wasn't as composed back then as he was now. He pursued her relentlessly, be it by filling the street outside her home with roses or lighting up fireworks just for her. The years of his youth revolved around her.

But three years ago, Leah decisively left to study abroad with another guy.

That was when I met Logan. He walked toward me through the hazy glow of the lights at a party. I just had half a drink, yet I was already drunk because of him.

I immediately pestered my friends for information about him, and when they pushed me toward him, I was so nervous that my tongue tripped over itself.

"I'm Tara Cruz… May I get your name?"

Laughter erupted around us. The frown Logan wore for months finally eased into a smile.

After we got together, he poured all his tenderness into our relationship.

He remembered every little thing I liked and disliked. No matter how late I worked, he insisted on picking me up himself. Every holiday, he prepared gifts with such care and thoughtfulness.

He posted about me on his social media and introduced me to every single one of his friends and family. Even his friends couldn't help but tease me.

"Logan spent years chasing the hardest girl to get, and now he's a master at relationships. You're reaping all the benefits, Tara!"

I never let those words get to me. After all, people said Leah and I were nothing alike, neither in looks nor personality. I was never a replacement.

And most importantly, I could feel that Logan loved me.

After three years together, he proposed with unwavering certainty.

I thought our love was about to bloom into something beautiful. Nevertheless, just when everything seemed perfect, reality struck me like a crushing blow.

Leah plopped down beside me and pulled a perfume bottle from her handbag, handing it to me.

"This is a wedding gift for you. This scent is really sophisticated. I've been using it for almost eight years now and never switched."

She smiled, her eyes crinkling slightly.

I had to admit, she carried herself with grace and had a naturally likable personality. Even the wedding gift was prepared for me, not Logan.

I accepted it and thanked her.

Then, she took out her phone and added my number to her contacts.

Simon: "So what? You're just here to show off your relationship and make me feel bad?"Logan: "Haha, I'm just a little emotional after drinking. I used to hate her and blame her, but I've let go now. I hope she gets what she wants and lives well. I realized that when you're surrounded by love, you just tend to be kind to the world."Simon replied with an annoyed emoji.Logan: "Okay, now that I've said it, it feels better. Let's delete the chat. Thanks for listening, man."Simon: "Wait, I'm not feeling good now."Logan: "What?"Simon: "I mean, your situation's off. You're still concerned about her—doesn't that mean you haven't let her go?"Logan: "No, I think I've let her go."Simon: "No, you haven't."Logan replied with a speechless emoji. Simon: "I mean it. Trust me, you're too involved to see it clearly, but I'm an outsider. Deep down, the person you love the most is still Leah. Speaking of which, who is she?"Logan: "I sent you a photo. That's her."Simon: "She's beauti

With his eyes still closed, Dr. Wilson answered, "There's an SUV downstairs, and it's filled with bouquets. It looks like it's for you."I blinked in surprise. Pushing open the window, I saw Logan standing below with a sea of flowers surrounding him.In the past few days, he desperately searched for me. He even booked an appointment with me and poured his heart out in a tearful confession.I rationally suggested that he might need to see a psychiatrist, but clearly, he didn't give up.Now, he was standing outside with an overwhelming display of flowers. When he saw me through the window, he started to bare his soul."I had too much of a drink that night. When I woke up, I realized I made a terrible mistake, and I've regretted it every second since. After thinking it through, I realized my feelings for Leah were nothing more than an obsession I carried for years over something I could never have."And once I had it, I finally understood that the person I truly love has always been

"That night, Logan must've crushed you with his answer, huh? You should understand now that you and I are different. He's been chasing me for five years, and still, he couldn't have me."But you just threw yourself at him. The way he sees us is very different. First love is the most unforgettable. Even if you two are married, I'll always be embedded in his heart."Leah's words were sharp, each one striking close to the heart. But I was beyond caring.Seeing that I wasn't reacting, she lowered her voice and continued, "And you know what? After you left that night, he took me home and stayed over at my place. While you were tossing and turning in bed, he was right next to me, sleeping soundly. That's the man you've loved for three years.""Speaking of which," she added, "Although I caused you some pain, you should thank me, right? I've shown you exactly what kind of man he is."I furrowed my brow, and my expression grew solemn.Leah smiled smugly. "Weren't you so calm just now? Wha

For the next while, I stayed at Josie's place and commuted to work with Simon in the morning. With all the distractions, the agony of my breakup passed surprisingly fast.Simon, like a once-feral man slowly integrating into civilization, started learning how to care for others. He even attempted to cook, which frightened Maria into thinking she would soon be out of a job.Another unfortunate casualty was Dr. Wilson.Simon suddenly lost his love for overtime. With him clocking out on time every day, Dr. Wilson was left to shoulder the workload alone. His hairline was visibly receding at an alarming rate.Josie remarked in admiration, "The most abnormal person in our family is finally becoming normal."But to me, Simon was still a little off.Take last night, for example. Right before bed, he checked on me like I was one of his patients."How are you feeling? Have you been sleeping well these past couple of days?"I nodded. "Yeah, I'm getting used to it."A moment later, he post

Simon drove to work with his usual icy expression. To kill time and ease the awkward silence, I started scrolling my social media feed. And that was when my world collapsed.Last night, the aloof Simon posted an update. "Today, we added an extra set of cutlery at home."Besides a cute emoji, attached was a close-up shot of a massive plate of pasta—my plate of pasta. My right hand which was holding the spoon was also in the frame.Even though the image quality wasn't great, anyone could tell the plate was filled to the brim.I had a big appetite, but since it was my first time eating at their house, I felt too embarrassed to ask for a second serving. So, I pressed the pasta down to fit more in.At this moment, I wanted to dig a hole and bury myself in it.Moreover, the comments section was worse.Among our mutual friends, Leah commented almost instantly after the photo was posted. "Who on earth is that? I need answers right now!"Logan, who must have recognized my bracelet,

"Give him 500 bucks to grab a meal while you're at it. At least he wouldn't have waited all night for nothing."I whispered to Josie, "Your brother's unhinged, but he's actually kind of nice."Josie had nothing to say.…Worried that Logan might come harass me, Josie suggested I stay at her place for a few days.Simon didn't object. In fact, he even offered me his room, claiming that it had better light. Then, he moved into the guest room next to Roman's bedroom.Josie clicked her tongue in amazement."Simon never lets me bring girls home, and he doesn't let them touch his things. I was starting to think he might be a bit of a misogynist. But look at how accommodating he is with you! Do you know what that means?""What does it mean?" I asked.Simon's footsteps on the stairs suddenly slowed."It means that Logan and Leah, those two scumbags, were so outrageous that even my cold-blooded brother can't help but sympathize you!" Josie huffed."If you have nothing better to say, j
